  1. This is an article from "The Baltimore Sun" about one of Maryland's gubernatorial candidates named Ron George. Apparently, he had a bit role on "The Doctors" in 1978. The part I found most interesting was this quote: "An NBC publicist scoffed at the idea that any footage might still exist from the 30-minute episodes in which George starred, but George said his main line involved saying, "Doctor, doctor," while lying in a hospital bed." Weren't there rumors that episodes of "The Doctors" were going to be aired somewhere? Or maybe that just pertained to 80s episodes. http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/maryland/politics/blog/bs-md-ron-young-soaps-20140426,0,2040830.story
  2. She could be a good choice. I haven't seen her in her recent General Hospital appearance. I wonder how she looks? If Marla Adams were just a bit younger she would be perfect.
  3. I remember liking the Adrienne/Felicia story. It certainly was different, especially for that time period.
  4. I have mixed feelings about the return of Linda. She was a great character when Margaret Mason played her. Not so much when Elaine Princi played her. Nothing against Elaine but she was totally wrong for the role (and the storyline didn't help). Wondering now who could do the character justice.
  5. Suzanne Zenor also was married to Edward Mallory (Bill Horton) which I didn't know until reading his obituary when he died. Mike and Margo were a sweet young couple. If I'm remembering correctly, Margo is the only woman Mike ever married.
  6. I can't even get my hopes up that Doug and Julie will play a major part in the 50th anniversary although of course I think they should. I feel as though I would be just setting myself up for disappointment. It seems tptb think Days just started in the 90s.
  7. Susan also became a step-grandmother when she married Bill, as he had at least one grandson at the time. Julie was just a step-mother though (to her half-sister). Susan mentioned in a recent interview that she hopes Days gives her and Bill a cake for their 40th wedding anniversary since they met on the show.
  8. In recognition of Valentine's Day (I think this is from 1973):
  9. I enjoyed the article too. I thought this was a good group of younger characters. Bell used to incorporate impotence a lot (in his Days stories anyway). Besides Mike, Doug was impotent with Julie after she was raped and Bob was also impotent with Julie. She was such a sensual being too. She really was frustrated when she was married to Bob! And then of course Susan Martin had the problem of being "frigid."
  10. I believe it was Maree who was spelling her name "Marie" during that time. I think the spelling change was fairly recent.
  11. Thanks for this article. I hadn't realized Heather North was on Days that early. And I always thought John Lupton looked like Johnny Carson, lol. I wish Days could bring Heather, Maree, Denise, and Susan back for the 50th anniversary, however briefly.
  12. Did anyone else see the picture of Larkin Malloy in the latest issue of Soap Opera Digest? Apparently, he's going to be seen a web soap called "Tainted Dreams." His appearance has changed quite a bit. I wouldn't have recognized him if not for the caption.
  13. Thanks for the John Clarke article. I often wonder how he's been since his retirement. Mickey is one of my all time favorite soap characters.
  14. Glad I could be of assistance to you for once Jason!
  15. Yeah, I don't think I've seen Margaret Mason ever called Marge anywhere else. I've seen Maggie a few times. She was relatively new on Days at the time, I believe.
  16. Since this is Days' anniversary, here is the cast in 1971 celebrating the 6th anniversary. Days had recently become the first soap to knock As the World Turns out of first place in the Neilsen ratings in 11 years.
  17. It is disheartening to read about what happened with the David and Valerie story. I was young and naive at the time so had do idea there was a controversy. I loved Valerie. She could have been a great heroine for Days for a long time.
  18. Regarding Dan's funeral, remember that the Stewarts were WASPs and so it wouldn't be unusual that they would be stoic in public.
  19. I've only seen speculation that Kamel was gay but never saw any confirmation from him. He seemed to be a bit of a loner. I liked him a lot on Days (and Monk). I enjoyed the storyline with Susan, Greg, and Eric. Though I do wish Denise Alexander had stuck around to finish it.
  20. It would be interesting to learn more about what Bell had in mind with those stories. The taping schedule then allowed them to quicklt change direction. I don't know why Sandy wasn't more fully developed as a character. I see Heather North occasionally on some of the late 60s tv shows on various retro channels.
  21. He did ramble a bit but he was charming. He's in his 80s. Wish he would write a book or have someone help him with one.
  22. Since Kenney talks about meeting his wife Heather North (Sandy Horton) and their son, here is the christening for their son.
  23. This is part of an interview with H. Wesley Kenney who was Days producer/director in the 60s/70s. He starts out talking about directing The Doctors but then goes onto Days. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sjHzMiPuRMc#at=16
  24. John Karlen is apparently ill and in a hospital/rehabilitation center. The Collinsport Historical Society From Marie Hentz Maginity: "John Karlen is at Studio City Rehabilition Center, 11429 Ventura Blvd, Studio City, CA 91604 in Room 10. Adam (his son) says our guy could use some major cheering up so everyone please write a letter or send a card." https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=622419927770738&l=fbb2ae0dae
  25. This is a short early 70s interview with Days writer Bill Rega. Interesting that Days considered doing a prison rape storyline long ago but it was quashed by NBC. That must have been when Bill and Doug were in prison. I wonder who was going to be raped? Maybe Bill as retribution for raping Laura? I do remember Bill getting attacked by a gang while he was in prison and Doug rescued him.
