  1. I was very sorry to hear about Judy Lewis. The story of the return of Susan Dunbar's husband, Alan, was front-and-center when I first started watching Secret Storm. I always liked Judy.
  2. Thanks, I always loved Denise Alexander on Days. The rivalry between her Susan Martin & Julie Olson (after Susan Seaforth took over the role) is what got me hooked on the show. Really missed her when she left the show.
  3. Loved these, especially the Lisa Brown scenes. I remember the scenes at the hospital, I thought for certain Nola had gone through with the abortion. Poor Floyd, he was a nice guy but I was so happy when Nola later ditched him at the altar. Lisa is one of my all-time favorite soap actresses, and Nola is near the top of my favorite soap characters.
  4. I thought I was the only one who hated all that health food stuff Carrie used to talk about all the time. Used to get so sick of her and Ross sitting around eating yogurt all the time. And I thought Carrie was too milquetoast for Ross. I did like crazy Carrie though!
  5. And didn't Karl want Julie to have a three-way relationship with him and Sharon too? I remember Sharon giving Julie a cameo or other brooch when she left Salem.
  6. Was that Keith Charles playing Joan's husband? It sounds like his voice.
  7. Well, Beverly Penberthy & Pat Barry do have a similar tone to their voices, maybe that's why you got them confused. Love them both!
  8. Oh no, I didn't see that. Thanks for telling me, I'll check it out!
  9. GH is one of the first soaps I remember watching since my mother & older sister watched it, must have been the late 60s. Jessie Brewer was the main heroine then, and going through her trials and tribulations with her rotten husband Phil! Also remember Peggy McCay playing an alcoholic nurse named Iris, who had an affair with Lee Baldwin.
  10. I preferred Kathy Glass as Alison because she had a vulnerability similar to Mia Farrow's portrayal in the night time version. I don't remember getting that sense of vulnerability from Pamela Shoop.
  11. Well, the only other nominees that year were Bill Hayes & John Beradino. I'm not sure what John Beradino's story was for the pertinent time period, although I think I was watching GH then. At the time, I wanted Bill Hayes to win. The nominations would have been for the stories in 1974, so that was when Doug was dealing with Addie's leukemia, Hope's birth,& his depression after Addie was killed. I think Bill did an excellent job in his portrayal of Doug that year, especially since Doug had been so devil-may-care previously. But, I do think Mac was a good actor & he was involved in the same story. Here is a scene of him and Frances Reid, in a flashback episode, shortly after Addie's death. <iframe width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/wDSoUCvbahM?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
  12. Here are Macdonald Carey and Susan Flannery with their Best Actor & Best Actress Emmys from 1975.
  13. Thanks Jason! Then those photos at Frances' house were probably from a little earlier than 1970.
  14. I don't think Mike was on for very long, maybe a year or so. He was playing Scott when Julie & Scott were married early in 1970. Susan Seaforth Hayes mentioned in her book that Mike left because he was frustrated with playing such a dull character. And Scott was dull, no matter who was playing him. That's one of the reasons it was understandable for Julie to start her affair with Doug!
  15. These are some photos taken at Frances Reid's home when she threw a party to welcome Mike Farrell (Scott Banning) to the show. I'm guessing this was around 1970. In the back left to right are Denise Alexander (Susan Martin), Susan Seaforth (Julie Olson Banning), Susan Flannery (Laura Horton, and Frances. In front are Regina Gleason (Kitty Horton) and Heather North (Sandy Horton).
  16. Sorry to hear about Roberts Blossom. He had such an impressive resume but his portrayal of Sven was so memorable that every time I saw him, I thought of Sven.
  17. Yes, she did win an Emmy, in 1975 I believe. You can see her very briefly in this flashback to when Hope was born (January 1974). Around 6:20. <iframe width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/qAx3vCH42dY?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
  18. Does anyone else remember the character of Sven Peterson, played by Roberts Blossom? He was one of the creepiest villains ever on soaps. Iris had hired him to be Mac & Rachel's butler, to cause further trouble between them. Sven dismembered Mac's chauffeur! I remember the only time my dad ever got interested in a soap was when Sven was on the scene. This must have been late 70s.
  19. The second Tom is the one I remember best. I'm not sure how much older he was supposed to be but he did have a son in his early to mid teens.
  20. I believe Tom ended up marrying Mark's mother.
  21. I only watched this show occasionally, but I think the woman bantering with Lt. Donnelly is the mother of the character played by John Karlen. Don't know the name of the actress.
  22. Here's the Ruta Lee interview of Bill & Susan Hayes (Della Reese is interviewed first). http://www.lifestyle.org/article.php?id=159
  23. The interview was filmed at actress Ruta Lee's house. Ruta interviewed Bill & Susan for a show she has on TBN (I believe). Her interview of them is available online at Lifestyle Magazine's website. Are we allowed to link other websites on here? If so, I will link it. And I agree, Bill is amazing! He and Susan just returned from a 3-week trip to Italy with some of their family members. Also, they have completed a novel which an ebook publishing company has purchased. I highly recommend their autobiography. A lot of insight into their lives of course, but also into the ins and outs of show business, and behind the scenes of Days. Susan is very funny, too!
  24. I believe the Amy Hughes from the late 70s/early 80s was the little girl that Natalie Bannon Hughes had by Jay Stalling, not Penny's adopted daughter. That Amy was probably played by Claire Doyle. Carol Stallings adopted Amy when she was married to Jay (or maybe after Jay was killed). Penny's daughter Amy was Asian.
  25. These clips are amazing! This is shortly after I first started watching the show. Of course, I was in junior high so only could watch it during school breaks. John Colenback was my favorite Dan Stewart. This is my favorite style of soap, with realistic character interaction and conversations. I wonder if most of today's audience would appreciate this type of storytelling because since the 80s people have come to expect action-type stories, with actors looks being more valued than their acting ability?
