  1. It would be nice to have some sober women on NY. NY was known for witty putdowns from all the women. Now we have more drinking than clever wit.
  2. I liked the episode, it was entertaining and had an energy that is was missing from the Marland era after 1987.
  3. I haven't watched NY as much this season...but does the show still show the women on their own..or is it always group scenes? All they seem to do is drink and fight. And I thought Leah was almost 50..not still in her 30s..eek!
  4. I always thought Thomas had inherited his dad's love of women/sex without the few boundaries ridge had. B & B had a lot of emotional incest undertones with Ridge/Stephanie, Eric/Kristen...with Ridge/Eric having competition to be the dominant male...while Stephanie was jealous of Kristen partly due to youth & her close relationship with Eric. Thorne feeling second best which Eric/Stephanie confirmed in subtle ways. Felicia and Stephanie clashed due to being alike personality wise...but I didn't detect any odd emotional incest vibes with her and her family. Brooke in the first few years wasn't sex addicted at all...in fact, she kept ridge at arms length for awhile sexually. Theories on when she became sex addicted?
  5. I watched the last months of the show when Long/Walsh were writing it...and while the Mcleary's were heavily focused on...I thought there was some good Stu/Jo material, some good Liza and Estelle shade, and connecting Patti/Hogan was smart. The show had a multi generational feel with heavy focus on older and younger characters.
  6. So it sounds like 1983 was the 1st year of the Bauer barbeque (1984 had a fun episode devoted to it)...so it sounds like Long jump started it as a tradition. And the Hughes 4th of July was kind of boring... nice, but not as memorable
  7. Bauer barbeque was a tradition on the show. I think it goes back to the 1960s, but I don't think it became a huge 2 to 3 episode event till at least the 80s...right?
  8. I'm wondering if it was intended to be a cult organization..an umbrella story that got changed to the supernatural angle.. I remember Felicia and another character switched costumes..and it was hinted something was up cause Felicia didn't recall..but that was dropped. I even remember Marley briefly played in the story by bringing Donna there...and whatever happened behind closed doors resulted in Donna regaining her voice...while Jordan Stark said he was drawn and intrigued with Marley...but that got dropped. Lastly, the frankie lookalike..who was the complete opposite of Frankie was bought in by Lumina..but that was dropped.
  9. In regards to Noelle Beck, do you guys think the writing didn't help people accept her as Lily? She had a more low key and subdued way of playing Lily than Martha/Heather did..reminded me more of the 1st Lily's take in some ways. While Martha and Heather played Lily as annoyed and frustrated with Lucinda..and both would lash out at her...Noelle's Lily seemed more exhausted and would retreat instead of fight with Lucinda. And I'm glad Lily and Holden didn't reunite at the end..too toxic and limited both characters. Also, I do recall Martha said she did watch some of Heather's run as Lily..and said she was good, marveling at all the acting opportunities she was given when playing Lily (miscarriage, Holden's disappearance, being stalked briefly in 1990, finding out about Aaron and Lucinda knowing where Holden was the whole time, etc) and wishing she could have played them. I do recall Heather played Lily's miscarriage wonderfully..and I don't think Martha would have been as effective..imho
  10. Lily.and Damian were interesting because both of them were strong willed. It was when I truly saw the benefits of Liky being raised by Lucinda because she didnt act like a weepy victim that she did when she was with Holden. I liked her Lily in 1993 to 1997 before being stuck to Holden for the rest of the show's run.
  11. Dorinda in her debut season wasnt all that nice..remember the scene where she mistook a patron as a staff member..and than laughed about a time she gave money to a disheveled guy cause she thought he was homeless? And she was vile to Kristen as well when it was John she should have yelled at. @chrisml my mom quit watching NY when Alex got the boot. Only came back to see Bethenny and tuned out when Bethennyy boo hoo'd about being 'homeless ' .
  12. I don't mind the casual look..but the NY confessionals remind me of a youtuber filming their first video to upload on their channel. Did the OC women film some stuff at home with their phones? I would like to see one episode of OC to show how the women were handling Quarantine in the OC..once the season filming resumes and finishes.
  13. When heather r departed as Lily in early 1993...did people find it jarring when Martha returned? I recall her saying Lily wouldn't have into.business..that it was a return to basics with the character. Yet in 1993 through 1996, she was involved heavily in business stories..wonder why Martha would say that statement yet the show didn't go that route
  14. I've seen clips off Ned, April, etc...they looked too old to be high schoolers lol Character I'm intrigued by was Cecelia cause the three actresses playing her were so different.
  15. Shame he didn't think to get Curlee or Long to do this. Both are strong willed personalities...yet in 1989/90 worked well together (they split the work 50/50 I recall). It seemed like Mindy and Roger hooking up was Curlee's idea..and it sounds like the Adam Malick arc wasn't Curlee..but Long's idea. I quite liked it and it oddly made sense..and Holly's scream at his unmasking was memorable
  16. Were Ned, April, etc....college students? Didn't teri polo play a character on the soap during that time period?
  17. Rosanna #1 had more dealings with Tess, connor, evan, debbie, and Julie than she did with Lily. I viewed some 1992..and too much focus on the Snyder's and their orbit of characters..with little to no overlap with the Hughes family. To me, it showed that Marland had stayed too long...and that maybe he should have stayed till 1989 before moving to a new soap.
  18. I think Eve and Ben remarried in Nov 1982..but that she stayed around as support for Justin..and before she left, she encouraged Helena to look in on justin. Just watching the Eve stalker story, it was pretty short sighted of Marland to kill off Diane. Did the actress want to leave or did Marland opt to write her off? It was a waste either way to kill her off...Alexandra vs Diane Ballard would have been epic...India and Diane could have been frenemies, etc. Long/Kobe would have used her well..imho. heck her reaction to Reva would have been awesome as well.
  19. Emma had no purpose after a few years on the show..phrasing the Snyder's should have been the first order of business when Marland passed away.
  20. I always thought it odd the show lured Robert Newman back as Mallet and Harley were leaving. A harley/Mallet/josh triangle would have been good...and we would have been spared Tangie.and maybe even been saved from Reva..who shouldn't have ever been bought back.
  21. It seemed like Marland could write vibrant women, but had trouble with the male characters. I will say Casey and Lyla didn't have chemistry, but I liked how slowly they were paired with Lyla being the one insecure and caring what others thought. Given her past, I kind of bought her being gun shy. What did people think of her and Cal? And when watching some of 1989, I saw Duke's intro...and it was a shame he came in as Martha was leaving as Lily..since the two sparked in their initial scenes together..imho.
  22. They should stick to 5..easier to film and more equal screen time. Ramona's tagline rules:)
  23. I always figured Katie lied about Lyla being neglectful in order to garner sympathy. Hence why when Lyla came at Christmas 2000...Katie looked like a deer caught in headlights because she knew she'd been exposed at lying.
  24. Peter was Holly's bf and later fiance...and I think the older guy with Bert was Leslie's father and Rick's grandfather...I think
  25. I watched some of the Marland era, but even than..headwriters were propping their creations. It's natural and not always a bad thing. However, I didn't Carrie at all...not because of Jane Elliot..but it wasn't a strong character imho. So what was the reason why Potter ended the story early? It did sort of end suddenly.
