  1. That's one of my issues as well, although that is not Garrett's fault - so much damage was done to the canvas by trying to recreate a character who even by that point had run out of storyline. I haven't seen him in recent years, so maybe he would fit the part. I just hope the writing is worthwhile, as we are seeing with Lulu that a great casting choice still can't overcome limited scripts. What do you think of him?
  2. I don't remember Garrett being very hard either. I mostly remember a lot of tics. That played well at the time, I guess, but I don't think it would now.
  3. I'm happy for all the crew and all in the cast who work hard, as well as being happy for a soap to still be on the air. I don't really have any connection to B&B and haven't in a very long time - probably the last was when Darlene Conley died - but I'm happy for those left who do. Most of all I am just glad that CBS is still committed to their soaps after a long period where I wasn't sure how true that was going to remain.
  4. I think the same line was used when Frankie was killed on AW by JFP a few years later. It just doesn't work unless the character is hugely connected to the show. And even then, soaps often move on with the many "loves of my life" characters have. I agree that writing Ed out for a while and showing Maureen cope, as a single working mother, would have been more compelling.
  5. I am sorry for Robert (I guess he won't ever be asked to temp for the part again...), but I do get why they might want a completely clean slate. This is a hugely important role to recast, as he's so integral to the future of the two sides of GH that take up much of their airtime. I hope they get it right. They've gotten more right lately in casting than wrong, with a few exceptions. I hope they may be willing to hire someone brand new to daytime, even to primetime, rather than hoping a name from another show will be enough. With that said, I agree Billy Flynn could have been good.
  6. So much of Robin's initial return as Dorian feels off. I do wonder how much bad blood backstage was a factor. Nothing improves for about a year. Saddling Robin with the Blair recast (which also took about a year to settle in) did not help. I think Princi's Dorian fit the "Cramer women" motif a bit more than Robin, although Robin did give some very touching performances with Addie over the years, especially when Addie was "cured." I can't believe Pamela Payton-Wright has been gone almost 5 years now.
  7. You said this very well. When Lester left, he said he was proud to have played out Marland's last great storyline. That was a classy statement but...was it a great storyline? I think so much of it rested on being a Lester showcase that just wasn't especially compelling, as well as a story that suffered from the miscasting of Emily (KMH was at best of times a competent actress who had a very spotty history of chemistry with her leading men...she also lacked the depth Emily should have had). There was also nothing left once the story was over. Did any viewers care if he stayed with Emily? I don't even know what all he did after that. I think he rode a motorcycle and was friendly with Julie and a few others. I adored Neal. That was the first time I had ever seen Mary Kay Adams. She put her all into the role. She clicked with everyone. On paper, that's great, because it should mean we're devastated to lose her, but that doesn't work as well when the aftermath just isn't worth the loss. They overcasted the role. Adams was too vibrant. I think they should have cast someone like Marcia McCabe - a good actress, likeable, worked well with everyone, believable as a relative to Lucinda, but not so charming that she was going to leave a huge hole. She did well enough in a similar type of short run on OLTL in the late '80s.
  8. Thanks @chrisml . As @Contessa Donatella said, that just is not true about a lot of fans being upset with Philece Sampler (RIP) being replaced by Anna Stuart. I wonder if this is another case of Logan sticking up for his friends (or going after actors he wasn't fond of). That quote about Maureen is a lot of BS. Essentially admitting they only killed Maureen so Ed could have story. The biggest problem with this idea is that by 1993, Ed - and the Bauers in general - had become isolated, had been isolated for nearly a decade. This just furthered his isolation, and they had to work even harder to come up with story for him. That's how we got Ed/Eve, which I think I liked more than most fans did. Killing off an important character for the sake of a few strong scenes - and that was literally all we got here - is always a mistake. This is also another reminder of how brutally male-dominated JFP's run at GL was. Thanks. You can tell Long and Kobe had no real use for Nola/Quint, separately or together, by the way they wrote out all of their satellite characters in such a quick space of time. It just makes them lingering on for another year and a half even worse.
  9. I think it's because they have the balance just right between Erica's sincerity and her drive and her camp - we are still seeing her grow, still seeing her as the little girl finding the big world. The show being brave enough to keep her out of Pine Valley for years was also important for the character. And Susan Lucci just had such a spark, before the inevitable ossification/"legend" status that tends to stunt character and actor.
  10. Thanks so much, @Franko . Always glad to see more of the '80s Loving. Interesting to see Sherrie again. If the show had gone on I might have brought her back, terminally ill, with Ava and Kate having to be there for her in her final months (and maybe her kids could have helped bolster a new teen scene with Stacey's kids among others). @chrisml Thanks. I never knew Downtown Julie Brown was on Loving. And it doesn't even sound like the usual cameo situation - it sounds like she wanted a real gig. I wish someone would interview her about what happened. I can't say I'm surprised she didn't last, especially as this was at a time there were no black people on the canvas. (I wonder if Noelle may have been doing her a favor) She would end up hosting The Gossip Show a few years later - probably a better fit. But she could have had fun on The City, as early on they had some comics pop in and out, like Judy Gold, before they lost the New York flavor.
  11. They made the character look awful by having her bed down Michael after taking Mikey from Donna and Michael. Kale Browne and Hilary Edson had no chemistry and they both came across as pricks, even though the writing clearly meant for us to side with them over Donna. Anna Stuart had to play against the writing for Donna during most of Swajeski's tenure, which she later complained about in an interview. Edson was also very cold in many of her scenes, more than I remember her being on GL a few years later. I wonder if it wasn't a happy experience. @Paul Raven from the Texas! thread - in 1991 (?), Carl had a henchman try to kill Rachel at the TV studio. She managed to fight him off, but had vision problems for a while, I think due to some type of explosion.
  12. If any show ever requires people to use Ozempic, I hope they get sued to hell. It's toxic and just leads to everyone who takes it having sallow faces and eyes, the exact opposite of what the appeal of soaps is often hyped as being. I think JJ's main draw will always be nostalgia, but the issue is nostalgia is not enough. I think he could be a leading man, but he left the show for a decade and things moved on. Then he left for another decade and things moved on even more. There's just nothing left. I've made my share of digs over the years so I can't really say anything, but I think the cast looks fine (I'd prefer they not use cheap hair dye or any fillers and other procedures, but of course it's not up to me).
  13. Thanks for watching. I always forget how much AMC is not on Youtube, due to huge purges 5-6 years ago or however long.

  16. Thanks. Never heard of him. I am not vested enough in B&B I guess.
  17. Thanks @slick jones I didn't realize Jay North had been on GH. Who is Emily Kasprzykc's parents to be a nepo hire?
  18. Iris was also there when Rachel was briefly blinded in the early '90s.
  19. Feels odd seeing A Martinez used in this way. I guess this was very very early on for his SB run. (I didn't even know the Search guy)
  20. AWHP have started their anniversary gifts. They also mentioned this message from Kevin Carrigan, posted on a video. "I have acted with Richard Dreyfuss (he taught me to play poker), Gus Alleghretti, Eugene Troobnik, John Caprice, John C. McGinley, Maria Tucci, Dominic Chianese, David Proval, Mike Starr, George Segal, Hal Linden, Ossie Davis, Glynn Turman, Judd Hirsch, Clevon Little, Vincent Gardinia, Neil Maffin, John Lithgow, Arnold Vosloo, Esai Morales, Al Pacino, Rick Zahn, Sheryl Lee, Lars Mikkelsen, Mark Moses, Kevin Spacey, Campbell Scott, Mahershala Ali, Robert Downey, Jr. (briefly...my room-mate), Paul Sparks, Luke Hemsworth, Hemky Madera, Paul Johansson, Diego Tinoco, Harley Jane Kozak, and Robin Wright (among others); but, I am as proud of this toe-to-toe with Bill Espy as anything (1:04, 13:19). What a cool guy! Bill, should you ever see this...I love golf now, too! And--Oh, My Goodness!--was Hilary Edson gorgeous in this episode! We had our great differences at this time (I wish we had not; or, that we could have resolved them. Alas, we didn't.); but, she was simply stunning. I don't even think she knew how truly breath-taking she was. After the fact, I believe she realizes now. Maybe none of us are ever able to fully understand what we have when we have it; only, many years later, someone can point out to us that we once did."
  21. You're right, although AW kept Rachel and Mac apart for almost all of Texas! lifespan anyway. But Rachel moving to a new show entirely would have been much starker. I do think it could have been interesting...and maybe this would have been the time to bring back Pammy and Gerald. (sorry, I know this is all more suited to the AW thread now)
  22. She truly is Sonny's daughter.
  23. @P.J. Thanks. I see that's Megan McTavish with Amanda at the start. Odd knowing she was among those who recast Amanda (although P&G might have insisted the show go with a younger model). I guess this is Warren's first episode, or close. I see he's trying to be more butch here compared to later on when he was queening out with India and Alex. Thanks for the answers about Trish and Vanessa. IIRC, the woman Josh is drooling over is Nola. I can't remember the episode, but there's one where Nola, after she can't go through with marrying Floyd, dresses up to go to the disco, I guess to try to catch a rich man. It's cut so oddly in the opening you'd think they are two different shots, but they aren't. Can't remember if they ever had any serious interaction after that, other than group scenes I guess. All of Tony's shots in this opening (the cup and the kick) annoy the hell out of me. Somebody should have put a foot in his ass.
  24. I saw a bit of the moment where he was clearly angry and hurt and wanted to tell all, and she steered him toward cold calculation. A good insight into how they have both always been.
