  1. This is disgusting. I have never liked or trusted CNN, even when they cosplayed as progressive pals in the late '10s. This is their true soul, along with Scott Jennings grinning like a jackass.
  2. Like I thought, Republicans got the talking points (Vance mentions Lopez after a lot of "liberals can't take a joke, wah wah"): https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2024-election/vance-racist-jokes-trump-rally-stop-getting-offended-rcna177711 I don't think this is going to be some type of balm to bring back alienated voters, but I've lost count of how many times Republicans have made ugly comments and after brief anger, people move on. They find ways to distract. Among them today - getting brain dead leftists to join them in believing lies that Walz said he was going to make AOC Speaker. A Daily Mail story being spread by Marco Rubio and others claiming Walz had an affair with someone's daughter in China back in the '80s. Sometimes I think these don't break out beyond the usual crowds who already love Trump anyway, but tonight I was listening to a podcast and the hosts were liberals or quasi-liberals and kept saying "Tampon Tim" because they thought it was intended as a compliment to him. The terrain has shifted so much to where I just assume Republicans get whatever narrative they want. I hope the comments do make a difference, but I just don't have that ability anymore. Not after 2016.
  3. I don't think he will either. He does seem more popular now than he was in those years, and the media is working hard to help him, but I think Harris will still narrowly scrape through the popular vote. The only part that makes me hesitant at times is the early voting numbers and some of the anecdotal stories (not worth a lot, admittedly) about how reluctant some are, even when they are voting for her. Another from Michigan: https://www.reuters.com/world/us/many-us-voters-economy-is-personal-they-blame-democrats-2024-10-28/
  4. Tom Baxter, AW. He is the reason Pat met and married John Randolph. He also caused scars that played a part in her killing another man years later. And Jamie choosing to write about her killing Tom led Pat to leave Bay City, nearly twenty years after his death.
  5. All the years that Joan Baez was mocked as dour and tedious, but she is still so vibrant, more than many people half her age. This got lost in all the other ugliness of the hate rally, but still seems important:
  6. Cassandra's story is what got me into Y&R. Megan also made appearances all the way to the end of the show (the ABC version anyway), even though she easily could have been forgotten. You're both right about Dominique. The character has crazy legs, especially when you consider the show chose to do little with Serena after PC yet still decided to give her a long-lost child (Cody). It was odd hearing Cody talk about wanting to be in Serenity, part of her complicated backstory that has outlived her and Katherine (who also used to go on about Serenity) by decades.
  7. I think Joe Public is not going to hear much about this either way, but I don't trust the media enough to believe they will stick to their guns. If they can find a way to either both sides or say that this was a win for Trump because he got to condemn bigotry in his party (even though he didn't) or it took focus away from Harris, I think they will. I know that's very cynical but I just don't trust them. And even if they do care now it is too little, too late.
  8. The usual whataboutism as he made jokes about Mexicans at a rally around the same time and it's already turning into, "why can he say something, but another comedian can't." They always find a hook to divide and conquer. We're disgusted by what he said, and some in the press will feign disgust, but like the fascist stuff and so much else, I don't think it makes a difference in the overall narrative or the voters he's courting and possibly winning.
  9. I saw a few of those, but I don't think the early spin will last - the talking points about George Lopez will probably be used soon enough.
  10. Not surprised. Her pig husband probably got in her ear. Has she ever spilled all the stuff she claimed her father said about Harris?
  11. More of the media already setting the narrative for tonight: Speaking of that drugged out husk, he is now openly saying that in a Trump election there will be "hardships." Shockingly, there is no press attention on that comment.
  12. The lip service tut-tutting from the same people who have spent a decade praising and normalizing these same figures feels very performative. I don't think it's going to make a difference for voters (I'm already seeing a lot of "Can't you take a joke?") as this is today's GOP, and the more vulgar Trump has gotten the more his numbers have improved. I've seen some people comparing the rally to Pat Buchanan at the 1992 RNC, but that America is dead. Today, Buchanan would be the nominee - and likely, President. More on the "friend" of Trump's who was waving a crucifix around. https://www.thehandbasket.co/p/trump-childhood-friend-david-rem-msg-rally The guy who was saying Harris is a prostitute. Militant Scientologist Grant Cardone spoke at Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally today. This is the second time this month that Cardone has spoken at a Trump rally. Cardone and his wife, Elena, are among the most powerful Scientologists and are one of the few to have direct access to Scientology’s criminal leader, David Miscavige. The Cardones have donated over $30 million to David Miscavige’s war chest, which is used to fund operations run by Scientology’s global intelligence agency, the Office of Special Affairs. These operations, which include the use of private investigators and other agents, involve the harassment, surveillance, and destruction of people who have been declared enemies of Scientology. This includes survivors of Scientology, women who have been raped, journalists, and advocates. There is no such thing as a cafeteria Scientologist or a “reform” or “orthodox” Scientologist. Every Scientologist is deeply radicalized, militant, and is involved in all of the heinous behavior that Scientology engages in at the direction of David Miscavige.
  13. Most of the big polls I've seen of late seem to lean to a tie (NYT, CNN) or a narrow Trump win (NBC/WSJ), which is why CNN and others are trying to claim he may win the popular vote. There are state polls going in any number of directions but overall I do think momentum has been going his way. The early vote is all over the place but a lot of the analysis seems to be based on how things will be better for Democrats in places like Georgia or Nevada if there's a last minute heavy turnout of younger voters, or black voters, etc. rather than positive directions in the current date.
  14. It's difficult to trust polls, but when many are starting to lean one way and I'm also seeing some Harris supporters on Twitter who seem to be more in the know than I am (like that Swann Marcus account) diving so deep into crosstabs, it does make me wonder just how bad things have gotten that we're unaware of. I think the worst part is that Trump tends to drag Republicans up when he's on the ballot (the main exception was 2020 Georgia Senate for several unique reasons), and a number of forecasters seem to think Republicans are getting a full sweep. That means no one can check him, and we sure as hell know the media won't. Another article from Michigan. The positive is the Harris campaign is much more involved than Hillary, but, like 2016, the fear is the election is all about stopping Trump, not about Harris. I am wary that the public will just go for the enemy they know, especially when he isn't up against a white guy. That, and Trump is at his peak of popularity, so he isn't even the enemy to a lot of voters. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2024/oct/27/democrats-michigan-trump-fear At the big hate rally right now, they have a "comedian" joking about black people and watermelons and calling Puerto Rico a garbage dump. Of course, the audience loves it, and they will likely improve their performance in NYC this year. The more the party openly embraces bile, the more I fear the public seems to embrace them, especially with Trump at the top of the ticket. More bigotry from Wisconsin.
  15. I don't think any of the people who need to hear that speech will hear it, but it's still very powerful, and I know how important it is to find some way to talk to men about what the women in their lives are going through.
  16. Zaid Jilani, like anyone from The Intercept, has always been repulsive, but he seems especially proud of his bigotry and misogyny against Harris. That whole bro culture seems to personally despise her, for clear reasons. Saying she should just be replaced with Usha Vance, who rarely appears or speaks because her pig husband's base freaked out when they saw her, says it all. @JaneAusten After the shift to the right in 2022 due to social issues and all the defections and stunts from some over Gaza, thanks for the reminder of the divided opinion.
  17. Beyond one-liners, Y&R, at least under Bill Bell, had a very dark sense of camp in characters like Rose, Sheila, and early Leanna and Phyllis. You don't get that on soaps now so the closest they come is all the ham with Jordan.
  18. Mostly posting this link because it's around the end of Henry Slesar's material and the uploader has several comments about that time (including some from Sharon Gabet) - namely that they were all upset and surprised by the news, but that they were relieved that they thought the Cameron story was finally ending. Ann Flood in particular had complained about the repetition of the story. Yet they couldn't find a replacement writer so had to stall out the story for several more months, with scripts by uncredited staff writers.
  19. NBC News has put out a piece about Dearborn residents, spotlighting the toxic Linda Sarsour (who isn't even from Dearborn) complete with photos that suggest they invested in her cabaret act, and not even going into the many other issues pushing a number of Arab Americans toward the GOP (as shown in the 2022 results). https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2024-election/dearborn-michigan-2024-election-israel-hamas-war-gaza-palestine-rcna169142 I'm seeing a lot of people saying don't cancel the Washington Post, cancel Amazon Prime. My response would be some people have a use for Amazon Prime. I have no idea what purpose the Washington Post serves today. Is it so they can shame Kamala Harris for visiting a family member's grave, like they did to Joe Biden? Maybe to lash out if she doesn't invite them to a wedding, like they did with Biden? Or giddily race up to a Republican senator to show her mean tweets a Harris nominee made about her, as they did with Biden? This reporter deciding to have a pity party on Twitter because her mother canceled her subscription is a great example of how out of touch they are:
  20. Alarming, if also not surprising, how many ran with all of his lies, claiming they must be true (because they wanted them to be true). Bill Ackman, yet another of the brain-dead billionaires in the Elon mold, amplified his ABC lies far and wide.
  21. I get why people would not want Vanessa and Billy together, but I just thought that Maeve and Jordan had such wonderful chemistry. I don't think Maeve ever had that same type of rapport with her other leading men - it's not that she didn't have chemistry with them, but there was always something special to me in her scenes with Billy.
  22. He was. The actor kept going to various soaps and never really had a good part. His GL part may have been his best.
  23. I have my doubts, but I just appreciate seeing a perspective beyond "she isn't hating trans people enough" "she didn't bash Biden enough," or "she is a genocider." I do feel like the way the debate has been framed in recent months did give Trump an opening. I blame a lot of that on the media, of course. Hopefully she can still somehow win.
