Are Valentin and Anna any more popular offline than Sonny and Nina were? I think the issue with GH in modern times is more that the show is so sterile and frightened, they don't even really want couples who have chemistry or have a passionate following. They just want easy material to fill up each day. Based on the interference and massive story issues during his brief tenure, I'm not sure. But whoever is there, Sonny always wins.- The Politics Thread
A few articles from a pollster blaming Harris' decline on her not focusing enough on the economy and not taking Trump's immigration attacks seriously enough until it was too late. I feel like so many people just automatically support Trump based on the economy (even when polls have her with an edge on the issue she is still slipping in those same polls) and they tune out any attempts by the campaign to focus on the issue. So does the media. But at least this helps me understand the struggles more, whatever cold comfort that is. Trump Is Laser-Focused on the Final Duel. - Radio soaps
The Archers already has a thread but there are many other radio soaps around the world, so I wanted to start this thread. If anyone has any information on this soap (Citizens), please share.- Dallas Discussion Thread
Some of these British TV magazines did illustrations for soap characters. This one is particularly striking.- RIP: In Memoriam Thread

He did. I know he's almost 60 and is mostly retired but it's jarring seeing that he looks older than Alley Mills. I wish him well outside of the industry, but they should have brought in another actor as Steven Lars. Steven Lars should have been a central character. There was also some development in the relationship, unlike couples like Dex/Joss where viewers are supposed to love them just because he's a piece of ass and she's Carly Jr. If I was invested in their relationship I'd be bewildered and mad at a completely random cousin reveal. I still think this is all going to be revealed as a lie, but if so, they should have made that clear from the start.- The Politics Thread
Leonardo Dicaprio endorsed Kamala Harris? Adam McKay and David Sirota must be breaking walls. Trump and the walking around to music - I get the feeling someone (maybe in UFC or WWE) told him this will look atmosphere and play well to the young men his team have spent so much time bringing in. I wish I could say it doesn't work but he seems to be doing better and better the more he decays.- The Media/Journalism Thread
@Vee Levi gets more and more pathetic. Now essentially encouraging everyone in Hollywood to grift to the right because of the death of the industry. I imagine he now fully believes his career was ruined by the evil wokies, rather than being an overgrown child and clearly trapped in a cult. Speaking of pathetic...I would guess most of these trust fund kids would tell you Ukraine is full of Nazis. The flippancy of this, along with her very sneering replies to people, are a good reminder of how much of a game everything is to the DC circuit. "Democracy flex" indeed.- The Media/Journalism Thread
That daughter of the LA Times owner is a great example of the danger of so much of the dead end left. She is a billionaire, like the Jacobin set, who will lose nothing for her great moral standards. I am also not surprised to see Dave Wasserman, one of the belt buckles of the Beltway, defending the non-endorsement in the most infantilizing of manners.- The Politics Thread
Thanks. As always the "voter fraud" the right cares about so often happens from them. Meanwhile in Ohio the AG charged a dead man with voter fraud. https://www.news5cleveland.com/news/politics/ohio-politics/dead-mans-voter-fraud-indictment-leads-to-cuyahoga-county-feuding-with-attorney-general-dave-yosts-office Scott Pressler, if this is him, is gay. I say that because I have a special contempt for the gay grifters in the GOP who think they will be shielded. They won't. Some of the branches of the party that have been so heavily courted this year, a subset that includes Stew Peters (who also has fans among Susan Sarandon and Ro Khanna - watch out for falling horseshoes), tweet homophobic bile about him. I imagine after this fiasco, if it is him, he will face even more wolves.- The Politics Thread
I'm not surprised about Gibson. I will say this makes all of his friends who love to go around asking people to give him a chance, as Andrew Garfield did recently, look terrible. He is a very rich man with all kinds of connections and who was given a big Hollywood comeback, he's out there spewing this poison, and yet they still need us to keep him in our hearts. [!@#$%^&*] him and [!@#$%^&*] them.- The Politics Thread
With Bezos (who paraded around as an anti-Trump foil in the late '10s to the point where SNL had a putrid puff piece on his behalf) forcing the Washington Post to not endorse, some of the early voting numbers, and even analysts that aren't exactly in Nate Silver-land saying the shift to Trump in polling is real, it's hard to shake what's happening. The CNN poll out today also has the GOP ahead on the generic ballot, which was up to this point one of the bright spots (that Republicans still didn't seem to be doing that well in the House). If polling is undercounting Trump support again this year, then we're going to be in for a rough night. If Trump wins, there are any number of reasons I'm not surprised, but it is still stomach-churning to see that Trump has his highest approvals ever at a time he is completely incoherent beyond bigoted, and yes, Mike Johnson and Mitch McConnell, fascist screeds. The more disgusting he gets, the more loved he becomes. God bless America, I guess.- Bravo's The Real Housewives of....
Erika is starting to resemble Sally Kirkland. Sally has a striking look, but I imagine Erika wasn't intending to emulate it.- The Media/Journalism Thread
I feel somewhat guilty even praising him given his history, but I definitely appreciated this moment. Cooper took over the conversation, but he still exposed just how hollow the CNN idea of "journalism" is. Cooper was shaken at the thought that anyone would ever question what a great liberal voice he is, because Cooper doesn't actually give a damn about anything but said image. He won't be affected by Trump. What does affect him is any shattering of the illusion that "giggly" Anderson, drunk on New Year's with pathetic Andy Cohen, isn't the forever friend of the increasingly small audience, but is a vain huckster, only a pink slip away from debasing himself the way Don Lemon and Chris Cuomo do every day. As I saw someone say on Twitter, would Cooper ever have spoken so crudely to one of the Republican propaganda merchants on that network, like Scott Jennings?- The Media/Journalism Thread
If this is true it will create such a chilling effect. Bezos must have access to data we don't. It's even more galling from that paper because they brag about "democracy dies in darkness." I have long found the coverage from that paper to be self-absorbed, smug, and pointless, but if they essentially endorse Trump, they can never again have any right to teeter on that pedestal.- The Media/Journalism Thread

That account has also been putting out a number of tweets doubting Emerson polling, which had some very GOP-friendly polls in 2022 and are back again this year (the latest saying Harris is only 3% ahead in New Hampshire).- The Politics Thread
Half or more of this country worships Trump, made worse now because of the kids who grew up when he was President are now of voting age, and many don't know or care about just how dangerous he and his puppetmasters are. Whenever people say any other Republican would be outperforming Trump, I wonder just who they think would win (Nikki Haley would never make it out of a primary). It took a pandemic to beat Trump in 2020. I don't have any idea what will this year. Miami-Dade has been tilting right more each year, and Florida is mostly a lost cause these days (this is where the state party needs to be helped - supposedly they are improving but have been a disaster for years). I do worry how much this reflects nationwide early voting trends, and the movement toward Trump in polling. I did see this, which has a more optimistic view about Nevada's numbers, although it might be seen as a cope, I don't know.- As The World Turns Discussion Thread
Thanks! I will mention this to the person who uploaded the 25th. Love that, although you'd think Brian was the father here.- The Politics Thread
The head of the NRSC is coming to campaign for Sam Brown so the early voting numbers must be even better than we realize. This goes along with the line Nate Silver is pushing about Harris' lead shrinking in national polling which given how Trump overperformed in polling in 2016/2020 is leading some to claim he will win the popular vote. I don't believe he will win the popular vote, but based on current trends it seems like he'll be closer than he was the last two times. I'm already seeing the usual whining about how Harris is hiding behind a celebrity or is wasting time in Texas instead of being in Wisconsin (even though she just left Wisconsin), but I can see where her campaign may be hoping anything turns the bad situation around. There's also a slim chance it could help with the Senate race, and it's good earned media instead of yet another day where she is grilled over everything she ever said or didn't say while Trump can fart and have NYT, Washington Post, CNN, MSNBC, etc. say how beautiful the smell is.- As The World Turns Discussion Thread
Thanks. Is that episode online at present? I couldn't find it. I might have missed it. I saw the 28th, which has Lily in a different outfit, Holden in the same one.- The Media/Journalism Thread
It's too soon to tell about this but I do think the way the 60 Minutes/View interviews were spun hurt her and so much talk about her only being negative (while Trump is fawned over for a fake fry cooking) does push a bad narrative in these final weeks. I wish Democrats would just stop going to the corporate media.- The Media/Journalism Thread
Incredibly annoyed (if not surprised) to see clips circulating of Jake Tapper, David Axelrod and Dana Bash panning Harris after the town hall. Between that and Anderson Cooper's tactics I wonder if she was set up. It's deja vu to 60 Minutes, right down to people saying "even CNN" is critical of her. I think those interviews hurt her momentum, and with how much the momentum feels like it has already shifted against her that's the last thing she needs right now. I'm not saying this to act like Harris is great at interviews, because I don't think she is, but they always make it sound like she's a disaster, and when you say that enough, people believe it. - GH: October 2024 Discussion Thread
