July 27, 200619 yr Member It looks great in the Confusion scenes, but all of the stuff at New Beginnings and at the hospital yesterday didn't look good at all. It would be interesting if all soaps started to do this. The visual look of soaps has changed a lot over the years and this would be just another change, I guess. I agree, All My Shadows. ALL soaps should do this! I even think having the 'film look' would give soaps more respect. Because that's one of the biggest things that separate primetime from daytime--that rich, cinematic look.

Growing up, clicking through the channels, I always knew when 'the stories' were on because they just looked different. The filmlook thing would be nice, but I'd miss the cheap and tacky look. We are all drinking the kool-aid. Well if it looks nice, it looks nice. Doesn't mean I'm going to look at the show as if it's any better. It's still [!@#$%^&*] and I can think of at least ten things wrong with it so far this week.
July 27, 200619 yr Member The new type of film looks good, but the wierd camera angles have got to go! I got dizzy watching the Jack/Jeff/Erica scenes yesterday.

July 27, 200619 yr Member Watching AMC this past week reminds me of when Sunset Beach used to be shot on film. I loved it. I think the camera people are getting a bit better. The camera wasn't as shaky yesterday. Let's see if this was a one week thing or their new way of shooting. I like it.
July 27, 200619 yr Member I am watching the episode on SOAPnet right now. Had it been any other episode with the taped look, I probably would have turned it off. But there is just SOMETHING about that film look that keeps me hooked. I think their cheap, cardboard sets look hella better with a film look. I didn't mind all the jarring camera angles and shaky moving cameras. Maybe that's because I liked THE CITY. A lot of AMC directors and producers who worked on that show work on AMC now. I see technical Emmys being HANDED to AMC on a silver platter for these episodes. HANDS DOWN. If GL had the money, I think they would actually benefit from washing their taped shows to film look. I think it would make a lot of their scenes look even better than they do on the shoestring budget they have now. *SIGH* Have I mentioned that I MISS THE CITY?!
July 27, 200619 yr Member Yay from me. I loved the look and the shaky camera angles don't bother me at all. I think it makes it seem more realistic than the standard floor camera. ITA with everyone else who said the writing is still [!@#$%^&*].
July 27, 200619 yr Member I caught some AMC this morning on SoapNet, and I LOVE the film look! It's 10x better. It gives it more of a primetime-ish look. I wish all soaps would adopt it. Is it cheaper to do it on film, or does it matter?
July 27, 200619 yr Member I'm on the fence - I am bad about 'change' - so I could get used to it. During ConFusion scenes - it is ok. During New Beginnings/hospitals/etc. - I prefer the old way. That's just me though. I wonder though - how long will it really last? They did it for on location shots (Lily in NYC in May) - and now for ConFusion - but will it last past all this?

It's like when "Passions" started messing with their lighting and getting artistic, and when they shot scenes in such a way that the actors didn't overpower the sets, as they used to...I don't know...I liked it for a time, because a lot of it reminded me of something I'd see on "Buffy" or a primetime supernatural show, what with the dark lighting and weird camera angles...but a great part of me LONGED for the old-sitcom-lit days of old. That said, this may be what soaps need to do to evolve. IT gives them, especially in this day and age, more of an edge on primetime. And with telenovelas like "Desire" and other five-day shows taking the filmed look, really, soaps look like the odd man out...besides, didn't "The City" or one of those shows pull this backin the day? So it's not entirely un-soapy... ITA!!! I'm taping AMC TODAY (VCR permitting). I've just got to see what the hell you all are talking about with these camera angles, lol. Will I get seizures?! See, bellcurve makes the perfect point. In this age of budget cuts, the film look really does make the soaps look better than they are, which is a good thing.
July 27, 200619 yr Member The City had the film look for its entire run and Sunset Beach had it at the beginning. Also, when the ABC shows had primetime episodes, they were on film as well. I miss both of those shows and watching AMC with the film look reminds me of it and makes me reminice as well as really enjoy the show. It just looks so much better.
