SOAPnet: Schedule change! GH Marathon shifted to the Graveyard!

AMC and GH are being shuffled around in terms of when their weekly marathons are going to air. I'm watching AMC right now and they've moved the marathon to 1am late Sunday night/early Monday morning.

GH will be airing in the time slot where AMC's first weekly marathon came on, 1AM late Saturday night/early Sunday morning.

This takes effect next weekend.

ugh if only Star Choice or Bell Express Vu would freaking pick up Soap Net :(

Are you talking about that cheesy "Hollaback Girl"-esque promo? I actually LIKE that one.

Yes! The first time I saw that, I literally fell off my couch in laugher over its utter cheeseyness. Hell, cheeseyness could be considered an understatement.

I've always hated Hollaback Girl, that song got too annoying after the first million times I've heard it.

It's got to sting the higher-ups at ABC/Disney if Y&R and Days repeats score better ratings than the three ABC soaps, since the original intent of SoapNet was to repackage the ABC soaps.

Since we're on the topic of SN promos, i've noticed that they always manage to feature the characters that may not typically get the focus of ABC promo's. Usually in those long generic promos for all shows, they do a great job at featuring most of the entire cast, rather than just a select few. At least the folks over at SN know how to appeal to a larger audiance (although chances are, if you're already watching SN, you don't need any more convincing to watch your soap regardless of who's featured)

I've always thought it was unfair that Days and Y&R get ONE marathon as opposed to ABC's TWO, so I hope they do cut GH down. They don't have to put it in a late night ghetto though.

The only reason they air 90210 twice a day is because Dynasty just left. They don't have anything to fill that timeslot with and 90210 is probably their highest rated show so they gave it an extra showing.

I was the one who originally posted the rumor about B&B. Not sure if it's true, I don't really care either way. I WANT A CLASSIC SOAP!

I hope that with SoapTalk and Dynasty gone, they're gearing up for a new classic soap by the end of the year. They are running out of primetime soaps, so I'm crossing my fingers it's a daytime soap.

I thought I remembered reading that those only get one marathon, because Sony will only allow Soapnet to repeat Days and Y&R so many times a day and so many times a week.

Not sure if that's true or not though

This is interesting.

It does have to burn ABC that Days and Y&R do so well. I would like to see some classic Days marathons too. I really enjoyed the Olympic break one and the Bope one. :)

Yeah I'd love more classic marathons. The success of Y&R does surprise me, lol. The CBS soaps are looked at as "old folks" soaps by Frons and many others so I didn't think it would work.

What I think has happened is all those ABC viewers don't watch CBS for that reason and now that they've checked out Y&R, they're hooked. Another shock is that Y&R's ratings at CBS have gone UP! I definitely didn't expect that either!

I don't really see how that [!@#$%^&*] Frons can think of Y&R as an "old folks" soap since it's younger than all 3 soaps on ABC and it's constantly #1 in the 18 to 49 demo and 18+ demo. Simply put, I think all the ABC viewers were amazed at how much better Y&R is written than the current state of the 3 ABC soaps. Y&R really sticks out in SoapNet's weekday primetime schedule, quality-wise.

*IF* another show is coming (which I'm not convinced of yet. Whenever SN has gotten a big-ticket show like DAYS/Y&R/AW, it is awhile before they get another considering they must cost a bunch), I think it will be either B&B or GL. I have NO proof of this. However, B&B is much more likely than GL. Remember, Frons said that he had a soft-spot for GL before the Emmy ceremony. Perhaps he initiated the acquisition. That's my speculation.

I had NO idea Frons had a soft spot in his heart for GL(whether the man HAS a heart is debateable). But I do feel that of the two PGP shows, GL would be a far better fit on SOAPnet. Most of its cast is young and the show is often very gimmicky with its Emmy Bait Wednesdays, like an ABC show.

B&B is higher rated than GL, but may be more expensive because of the licensing fees. Same story for ATWT.

I doubt, however, that Frons will want to acquire GL if it's thisclose to being on the chopping block.

Yeah. I remember seeing it somewhere. I believe GL was his first job (whether it was at the show or at P&G, I dunno). This of course makes me feel kinda responsible for that albatross, lol.

Watching the GH marathon now and it says:

Schedule change: Starting July 22nd catch the GH marathon at a new day and time, Sundays 2 pm est.

Just checked my cable guide and the AMC marathon will be on Saturdays at 2 pm, which will flow right into the Y&R marathon on Saturday, with nothing in between the two marathons.

So basically they flipflopped the GH and AMC marathons, but bumped them up and hour on each day

See, THIS is a smart strategy. There is no hourlong break between the airings of DAYS and Y&R with the ABC owned, the marathons just lead straight into Y&R.

The GH/DAYS synergy is no coincidence, IMO. Those two shows are the most talked about and often sell the most magazines. It makes sense to have DAYS's lead-in GH.

I do believe with the closing of the gap between GH/DAYS, AMC/Y&R that SOAPnet is preparing to make room for another property, at least in Saturday mornings.

Yeah GH and Days do seem to fit better. I'm just glad they didn't stick the AMC marathon to just a graveyard airing, gonna have to get used to the AMC marathon being on Saturday afternoons instead of Sunday afternoons.
