I think I could forgive a lot of Jamey's crap if he poaches Greg Rikaart from Days

Wasn't he boasting about the whole bear thing on Twitter? I don't remember.

I remember him boasting about pitching Sarah as Renee to Ron 🤮

And I wouldn't be surprised if Body&Soul was one of his pitches too 🤮🤮

Greg Rikkart leaving Days and returning to YR not as Kevin but as Leo.😂

  • To be quite honest, I am both mortified and oddly happy for Jamey and the show at the same time. IIRC Jamey is devoted to Y&R and I believe he has been since he was very young. I heard him complai

Excited or not about this news, I think we should all enjoy this moment. Daytime has had ratings wins this year. BTG is solid and got a two year renewal and a great showing with Emmy noms. Y&R has

I'm cautiously optimistic. I mean, it can't be worse, can it? Can it??!!!

I completely gave up on watching the show about a year ago. The non-stop talk about all these vague companies, and which companies were merging with which ones, and who was going to be the CEO of this company or that company. It was mind numbing and head scratching that the TPTB thought these "stories" were what their audience of mostly women (and gay men) wanted. There's been no real romance, human connection, and true family drama that doesn't revolve around a "company."

There is no investment in the build-up of the younger generation. There is no "Young" in the "Young and the Restless" anymore. One of the things I love about soaps is the inter-generational aspect. But, Y&R's cast is dominated almost entirely by people over 50, and most of the cast is over the age of 40. Hell, even when they brought Noah on, they gave him a love interest that played HIS MOM on another show! They couldn't even give him a scene partner in their 20s. Make it make sense! I love Jack, Victor, Nikki, etc, but they can't be caring the show 10 years from now if it's to survive.

Victor being a jackass to his family and being forgiven and his obsession with Jack has gotten beyond old. These characters need to be spun in an entirely new direction.

The "psycho of the week" stories have gotten really old. I feel like the "Aunt Jordan" story was somewhat successful, so then they started bringing on ever former psycho that appeared on the show. They even tried to make Matt Clark, A RAPIST, the show's new leading man. It was disgusting.

Also, almost every character is filthy rich. That takes out a huge potential for conflict. Which characters are trying to crawl and claw their way to the top? All we have is characters talking about merging their mega "companies." Do we even know what most of these "companies" do? It's downright bizarre writing. I feel like Audra was the ONE character who had potential in the past five years...most because of the actress. But, they squandered that opportunity, too. She could have been a character to slowly build a new family around.

Speaking of families, the Newmans and Abbotts have all married and divorced each other so many times, they're basically one family. We need new blood. STAT.

I feel like characters, such as Phyllis, are completely played out...at least with the material of the past number of years.

We'll see what happens. Maybe I'll tune in out of curiosity when the new material starts. But, this show needs a HUGE RESET.

Your entire post is exactly the reason I'm happy about this Giddens/O'Connor team.

I'm sorry, but the hand-wringing and teeth-gnashing around here is too much. (I'd call it ridiculous, but I know how my tone can offend others). "It's a taste-level thing" I keep reading.

Are you kidding me? Y&R is AWFUL these days. It is TERRIBLE. What "taste level" have we had from Josh Griffith? What good are we getting that might disappear under new writers?

"Interference" from CBS? We've heard that forever, and even if it's true, I don't know what that means. I sure know I would have liked some of that interference when Roger Howarth was hired to play a Matt Clark redemption story. The fact is that the show sucks primarily because of Josh Griffith.

I frankly don't care about some return to the classic Bill Bell days, because I don't believe that can happen. You cannot mimic a guy who left Y&R in 1998 and died in 2005.

I want a better soap. I want something that's worth watching, even if it's not "classic" Y&R. We've all talked about Jamey's love for the show, and I think he knows he's writing a show with a legacy.

Dan O'Connor isn't merely "ABC." He knows how to script dialogue, how to do breakdowns, and how to function as Co-Head Writer. To those of you who want someone "new to soaps who hasn't written for them before," do you realize how that sounds? Why wouldn't you want someone with experience to team with Giddens?

As I've said repeatedly, I don't think ANYTHING on Y&R is working except for the Lily/Cane relationship, and even that works in large part because of actor chemistry and not the writing.

And no, Eric Braeden is not sitting at a table with this new headwriting team and giving them orders and a piece of his mind. Those days are gone.

When this news first came out, most people here were cautiously optimistic. I'm posting this rant because when I checked in today, the boo birds were all over the place. My assumption is that many of these people stopped watching the show.

I'm one of the idiots who still watches -- and complains every damn day. I'm one of those who KNOW how bad this show is right now.

I am ECSTATIC about a new writing team coming in.

I am still fascinated by the fact that they almost hired Sherry Stringfield.

That's crazy. I had no idea.

Rumors of the time. May have also been actually reported on in the waning days of the soap press at the time. IIRC she did a screen test with Bergman, and was close to being chosen. With JFP as EP I remember thinking she had a good shot because Jill knows what she could do with that kind of character from Blake. But it also could have cost her because she waited to almost the last minute to not sign her contract when she left GL. She was expensive too.

For my part, fairly or unfairly, my taste level comments have more to do with any mentoring done by Carlivati and sharing sensibilities with him than expecting something highbrow. Y&R had their share of cat fights and tacky stories in any era, Bill Bell included. His issue stories were hokey as hell, especially compared to what folks like Nixon and Labine did. However, I have lived through Charles Pratt’s terrible tacky stuff on three soaps since the 2000’s began, and RC, so I hope for better story foundations from these gentlemen.

Josh had to go and the show will be better for it in probably every way possible. His time writing soaps is hopefully finally over for good. This duo is hopefully going to be given a chance to see what they can do with what is still the flagship soap opera.

Y&R under Josh Griffith is at a nadir for sure, but that’s a looooow bar. LML, MAB, and Pratt’s versions of Y&R beat his by a country mile, simply because they had actual stories, but they were still mostly unwatchable to me. I dipped out on MAB’s Y&R for years because of how dreadfully vile and dark the show had become. I’ll give Jamey a shot because of the lifelong reverence he has toward the show in spite of my hate for Ambitions (I really didn’t like it). But life’s too short to watch something I don’t like, and that’s getting clearer and clearer to me as I age.

As long as he's off Days and back at Y&R, I'm happy 😂

With Y&R over the past 20 years, I’ve learned that every time you think it can’t get any worse, it somehow does.

But good luck to Jamey and Dan, prove me wrong.

Josh was awful on YR, but Jamey of all people to hire. He's been awful everywhere he's been. Had they paired Dan O'Connor with a veteran YR writer, I'd have had some hope.

Most of us are either watching out of habit or hate watching.

John Abbott death marked the end of Y&R as we knew it. August 18 will be 20 years.

The ig text was cut off with the messageboard embedding; so at first I didn't realize the Locher room interview with Jamey is from December 2023.
