Now that I made it through the last week of May on GH. Honestly...
BEYOND THE GATES...B
The hype for me was real with the cotillion. I didn't like that they stalled it. I didn't like that after giving it a build on-screen, from February to May, they did everything else OFF SCREEN. Still, I was in the minority when I said it would probably be worth the stall. And YES, it was. There were so many things...extras, little bits, fashions, organic pacing, camera direction...I could go on and on about how great it was. Meanwhile...in hindsight for me...they brought the Impaler storyline to a head FINALLY. Also in the minority...is the fact that while the cotillion ended, the momentum was really maintained for the rest of the month. Even better, the show appeared to have found its pacing again, leading to the reveal of the Impaler as well as locking in on a potential climax to the Hayley storyline. And now an incoming crossover with Y&R which sounds great. Intrigued. Not as good as last May Sweeps, but it appears the show learned its lesson about big event, little fallout/aftermath.
GENERAL HOSPITAL...B
Came into May with a BANG with Carly finally busting Brennan and revealing her liasion with Val...just as Joss gets kidnapped by Peter August 2.0. And then...the writing tics took over and it became a chore to watch half of May. I had already mentioned that it was clear at the start of the year that the writers were adamant about which couples they would pay attention to this year. Unfortunately, none of those couples were good outside of the debatable Jason/Britt pairing and Gio/Emma. With Jason currently off-canvas, the writers did manage (for me) to humanize Britt a little bit, but the writing has still worked against her to the point she has been thrown under the bus. Sonny at the mercy of Sidwell? Trina and a singing career? The messy black cast drama turning into a storyline from Y&R? What in the world...smh. Thankfully by the end of May, the stories got better with Dante figuring out what was going on with Rocco and Lulu, Britt taking off with Rocco, the hit and run showing off new angles, and a focus on characters I liked (looking at you Dante...who appears to be surprisingly driving story). Ending May in a good place with the intrigues of Ethan (hate the character, but I can look at Nathan Dean all day), Michael/Willow/Chase/BLQ, hitting the right beats on the hit and run, Ric/Liz/Dante, and Sonny (finally?) making a move, but the journey to get there? NOPE.
BOLD & BEAUTIFUL...B.
Honestly...outside of BTG's cotillion week...the show I liked the most. Yes, as I predicted in April...Brad Bell did hit a mid-May slump in storyline, but it managed to pivot nicely with the plotline of Hope leaving Forrester to join Logan (with Deke in tow) which will only make the on-going Logan vs Forrester that much more hot. Meanwhile, Brad has done a great job with having a teen/young set again after the disastrous RJ/Luna/Zende days. And then you have C plots with Remy trying to get back on top, aftermath of Taylor/Deacon/Sheila, and the shenanigans with Wyatt and a returning Shauna. If Heather Tom goes full Victoria Newman on Brooke, I...WILL...BE...LIVING.
YOUNG & RESTLESS...Oooooo below F, hunni.
Came back for Malcolm. Only to see Malcolm not even on screen for the whole month of May. His story...told off screen. Yeeeeah NOPE.
DAYS...still have not watched, but very much enjoy reading @AbcNbc247 's synopsis to keep me invested. I need more time in my day. Cuz I do want to support Connor Floyd the same way I support Rory Gibson.
Overall, I thought it really was a good May Sweeps for the soaps.
