It would have been cute if they just used the ambulance opening to commemorate the anniversary and segue into the current opening if they had to. It wouldn't need to be edited much since there are no faces.

No new opening for the 60th anniversary is a mistake.

Smh. Frank did a good job for the 50th, he better donthe same for the 60th!

It is very poetic that anniversary week episodes get interrupted by Special Reports. I will say though the occasion does warrant programming interruption...I just wish it were during The View.

This article's very informative re: certain elements of the current BTS process.

[Chris] Van Etten: There’s a puzzle on a micro level and on a macro level. On a micro level, every week, we’re looking at not just the story and where we want to move the plot and characters, but there are certain economic issues. The studio can only accommodate so many sets at a time. If we put up a set on a Monday, it’s best to try to use that on a Tuesday and then even again on a Wednesday because it will save time and money. We will take these puzzle pieces of, ‘These are the stories. These are the characters. How can we move the story within the set and other economic considerations that we have?’ [...] The Metro Court pool is a special case because you’ve got to fill a big tank of water that’s too costly to empty out and then fill back up again based on the writer’s whim. We had bugged Frank for years, ‘We want a pool. We want a pool for the summer because we have a very attractive cast, and we should show them off … They are wonderful actors, but they’re also beautiful.’ When he finally yielded to our unrelenting pressure, one of the rules about using the pool is that when it goes up, it stays up.

Valentini: When you inherit so much history and so many front-loaded characters and stories, you can’t just abandon them. Having been at One Life to Live for many years, EPs would come in and they would fire the whole staff. They’d fire all the writers. They would change the show and start from ground zero. I never think that’s the right thing to do. You don’t burn the ship. You turn it around.

Valentini: The Quartermaine living room just seemed very old [before]. They are a very wealthy family … People redo their living rooms and people redo their kitchens. These are places that legitimize and help to authenticate the characters in the world that they live in. And I think when the characters aren’t in the right location, it detracts and it compromises their integrity. When you see [Benard’s character] Sonny [Corinthos] in his cool penthouse, that speaks to the character.

idk Frank.

[Dan] O’Connor: Usually it’s a conversation that we have, especially when certain characters move out of some generational benchmarks. Our high school characters are now college age and young adults. So that would be a discussion, ‘Hey, maybe there is room for an adolescent set of characters on the show.’ It’s based off our needs and the story and the show.

Van Etten: There’s also an X factor in there. We have the best casting director in the business, Mark Teschner. He’ll just unearth someone and especially if it’s a younger person, he’ll bring this person to Frank’s attention. Frank may look at the canvas as a whole and say, ‘We have a six-year-old character who doesn’t necessarily fulfill a real purpose except to be this person’s child. Maybe if by aging them to 12 with this younger actor that Mark has found, we can get more story.’

Van Etten: When I was a breakdown writer, I would read Twitter on days when my episode was on. Now that I have a much larger responsibility for the show, I’m very sensitive and I want to put out something that people like. If they don’t like it, they’re usually very, very particular about not liking it. I can’t. I don’t need that in my life.

O’Connor: Different social-media platforms and audiences seem to have different opinions about certain things. So, it’s hard to say. There’s a consensus on the show as a whole or the stories when you go to, say, Twitter. [Twitter] has a different opinion than Instagram or Facebook or the message boards. So it’s hard to gauge just from that feedback which opinion represents the majority of our audience.

A lot of this is understandable, but @Darn and I were just saying the show now has a major youth traffic jam due to too many fuckin' kids and not enough care taken in recent years. I lost my mind to realize Aiden is now almost a teenager with teens Rocco, Danny, stupid-ass Charlotte, Jake, etc. and they're all banging up against the current frontburner youth set. Not to mention 5-6 kids just born or rising in age by the day (Donna, etc).

The red-carpet scenes were unbearable.

Yep, the red carpet was awful.

Chandra Wilson is good on Grey's, but she is the wrong choice for this red carpet interview stuff -- way too laid back and reverential. They needed someone who was ALIVE and fun and irreverent, asking questions that are at least semi-embarrassing.

Instead, they played it straight, and you can't overcome boring writing by playing it straight.

Good article! Expected answers but enjoyable nonetheless.

And yes, the number of children under 15 on this show is decidedly out of hand.

Liz: Aiden and Jake

Carly and Sonny: Donna

Willow and Michael: Amelia and Wiley

Sam: Scout and Danny

Lulu and Dante: Rocco

Lulu and Valentin: Charlotte

Ava and Sonny: Avery

Olivia and Ned: Leo

Esme: Ace

Finn: That lispy little girl. I'm not looking her up.

Maxie: Three of them, don't expect me to know their names. And I know at least one of them isn't actively on the show.

Valentini: The Quartermaine living room just seemed very old [before]. They are a very wealthy family

Can someone tell this to Y&R? The Abbott living room looks like it smells.

On second thought nevermind, they'd end up gutting it and painting the walls blue.

The thing about the red carpet that bothers me within the GH universe is that it begs the question of how famous are these people within Port Charles?

OK Laura's the mayor who has helped save the world and was a famous model.  Sonny is a notorious mobster (although IRL they tend to shun the limelight).  And, Nina runs Crimson which is a nationally available fashion magazine.

But, is Liz Webber the head nurse at GH famous around town?  I know she must have been in the news a couple of times, but nobody seems to recognize her when she's walking in the park.  Does anyone care what Sam McCall is wearing to the local charity event?  She's lovely, but in that universe, she hardly seems newsworthy.  And are the people of Port Charles eager for the latest news on college student Trina Robinson?

GH preempted in USA Tuesday April 4th due to news coverage of Tr*mp.
(This means that all episodes would be shifted to the next airdate.)

Nathan Varni tweeted that it already aired in Canada.
Varni said the full episode will air Wed. April 5th in USA,
and Canada will get an "encore" Wednesday.

(He didn't specify if Canada will get a repeat of the same episode or something else.)

Y’all know Charlotte’s gonna be Frank’s next Starr.

And they’ll probably pair her with Wyatt, the OLTL friend 😂😂

I just was wondering the same thing about Days and Leo's gossip blog.  Does anyone care about how Chloe Lane feels about her on/off again boyfriends daughter?

Sam did have a tv show a while back so some people might still remember that, but I thought it was much more effective when they just showed everyone entering and their outfits and who they came with in a little montage.

Wait...did I read that right?

When Frank and RC came in, didn't they gut the majority of the long term writers or am I mistaken?

I'm sure @Vee knows better but I believe so. A current and former GH script writer, whose name is escaping me, did a The Locher Room interview a few weeks ago stated he was let go when FV and RC joined the show. Ron asked him to stay on an additional, I think, 6 weeks or so but he knew as soon as they were hired that he'd be out of a job.

That's a soap cliche I've just had to begrudgingly learn to accept.

I was watching some GH from the 90s as you know and Ryan was reading a newspaper where the headline (the HEADLINE) read "FELICIA JONES TO WED MAC SCORPIO" or something similarly insane. Headlines about world famous people are hardly ever THAT direct. Even stop the presses news like Oprah finally marrying Stedman would say something like "Longtime loves Oprah Winfrey and Stedman Graham to finally say yes to marriage and tie the knot".

Originally there was no red carpet, that was a Ron and Frank thing. Once it sounded like the red carpet was just on a local tv cable station and not a national event which made more sense.

Yes!  I remember the headlines GH used in the 90's were hilarious.  The one with Lily dying was something similarly direct like "MOB BOSS'S PREGNANT WIFE DEAD" next to a glamour shot of Lilly Melgar🤣

I can understand the people on GH are possibly famous/infamous on the town, but where is the Nurse's Ball airing?  It can't be on National TV.  I just assume it's on some public access channel lol.

It's got to be local access or streaming.

It's streaming on Aiden's Twitch! That actually would've been pretty fun and current.

GH is getting another SOD magazine for it's 60th. I can't embed the post but this is from their instagram and according to this post with Emma Samms and Tristan Rogers it's a full size magazine.
