Recasts You Think Could've Worked

Name an actor/tress that you think would work as a recast and why. Might help to list the show and most noteable role each actor *particularly lesser known names* are associated with.

My list:

Beverlee McKenzie (Alexandra Spaulding GL) as YR's Katherine Chancellor. Same grand dame matriarch energy.

Lisa LoCicero (Olivia GH) as GH's Lois or OLTL's Tea Delgado.

William Shatner as Victor Newman (based off aesthetic alone, lol

)

Susan Flannery (Stephanie B&B) as Falcon Crest's Angela Channing--or vice versa. They are alike except from I understand Angela is significantly more evil. Grand dame energy, ruthless women with a bitter streak.

Lisa Brown as Brooke English (AMC)

Gillian Anderson as an aged Laura (AMC) had she not died - that's bending the rules, I know

Anna Stuart as Erica Kane

Susan Lucci as Rachel (AW -- even during the redemption). I'd love to see her with Mac

Jeanne Cooper as Iris (AW) seeing her play the pseudo-incest layers with Mac would've been fun.

David Canary as John Abbot (YR)

Jerry Douglas as Joe Martin (AMC)

I would really like to see what Constance Towers could have done with Alexandra Spaulding.  But ultimately, I don’t think anyone brings all the layers at once that Beverlee did- petulant, vulnerable, deeply committed to family, at times almost desperate and easily disappointed.

I've said it before, I'll say it again (and again): I would bring Gina Tognoni onto GH in the previously-cursed role of Dr. Sarah Webber. She'd come with a ready-made family (a la the British soaps), a scheming husband and a secret. I'd pair her with Drew the WSB agent. It would play!

Renee Jones as Olivia on Y&R- of all the potential candidates for a recast (like maybe Amelia Marshall), RJ comes closest to nailing the “easy sweetness with a hysterical edge” contrast that TLW does.

Lane Davies as Jack Abbott on Y&R - a role swap between him and Terry Lester, he’d have been closer to Lester’s wounded Lothario than Bergman’s more effete matinee idol.

Wendy Moniz as Felicia Forrester on Bold and Beautiful: She and a young adult Dino move back to LA from Paris to lead the design team at Forrester. While she shows concern for Eric still being married to Quinn and perhaps, she becomes attracted to Bill.

Jessica Collins or Charlotte Ross as Kristen Forrester Dominguez on Bold and Beautiful: She's not needed on canvas daily. But I think one of them would fit in visiting LA frequently as she checks in on Zende and the rest of the family and the company too.

I second Gina Tognoni as Dr. Sarah Webber on GH. It would expand the Hardy/Webber family. In addition to her wanting to take over Chief of Staff duties believing a Hardy should be running the hospital again.

Kim Matula as Serena Baldwin on GH

Jeff Branson as Lucky Spencer on GH

Until this year the last time I saw Cassandra Creech on daytime was a bit part as a seductive assassin on GH in the 2000s. I remember thinking she was still amazing and being baffled why that show, any show had not snapped her up - I thought she was great on ATWT despite bad material. I'd put her on GH as, say, Simone Hardy opposite her son Tom the doctor any time. Or Keesha Ward, who knows!

For years, I've thought Robert Newman would be a good Bo Brady recast. Not sure why, but I couldn't picture anyone else. Somehow recasting Bo is like this giant impossibility, even though RKK was Bo to me because I was too young to remember Reckle's first run and he didn't seem that impressive when he returned.

    • Oh, well.  At least he can cry into his hoodie.
    • Sorry, just realized I'd somehow lost a whole paragraph in that last post.
    • Thanks @Paul Raven  They should have brought Billy back in the early '90s for more drama with Hart and Blake. Maybe Blake would have gotten involved with him to try to ruin him in Roger's eyes, but realize under his sweet nature, Billy was a player himself.
    • Checked. Taggert last date, Wed, 7-19-23, so a long dadgummed time ago.

    • Watching the cult of Fetterman collapse is one of the few political bright spots for me. The best part  is watching all the people who built him up now decide they want to tear him down. I'll be fascinated to see how this ends for him. https://buckscountybeacon.com/2025/05/pennsylvanias-democratic-senator-john-fetterman-raises-alarms-with-outburst-at-meeting-with-union-officials/

    • Long ago, this Rachel fan channel uploaded a number of clips of Rachel with Felicia during the alcoholism story, and this one in particular stands out for me.

And then you have this scene, which is the dark mirror of the above, especially the final moment: Felicia started out as camp bitch on a very dreary show (with Cecile being the only somewhat fun character around that point) and then got into a lot of comedy. Some of the comedy was very stupid, but many viewers still felt drawn to it, to Lily, Cecile, Cass, Felicia, Kathleen, Wallingford. There was a vibrancy which Dano fit well in, her fashions and melodrama parodied in a gentle way. This was missing in some of the long-suffering parts she'd had had on shows like ATWT. By the late '80s, especially after Wallingford's death, those times were gone, and Donna Swajeski added further misery to Felicia with the Gold Street backstory. Luckily, after a bit of time the show found a good framing for this new twist on Felicia. The stories with finding and losing a love from her past, learning that a woman she hated was the daughter she'd spent years searching for, sinking into alcoholism, they all fit into the type of material suited for the '40s and '50s screen goddesses.  When Dano tried some of this old weepy type of material when she went back to ABC, it mostly fell flat, as the atmosphere wasn't the same and her character always felt shoehorned in. It worked perfectly at this period on AW because you had Iris, you had Rachel, you had Donna - you had a number of tough-but-vulnerable women of a certain age, most of them grandmothers by this point, but still trying to find love, find themselves. This is what AW could have had earlier if they hadn't dumped Pat and Alice, but better late than never. This is an approach you saw more often on British soaps than on US soaps, which for a number of years respected women in that age group. Both UK and US soaps have done away with this, both countries having the ladies devolve into perpetual ingenues (with added doses of endlessly self-aware camp in the UK) or just being shipped off entirely.  You could even see that on AW with the treatment of Iris (shipped off, never to be mentioned again, too old to return), Donna (repeatedly humiliated and crippled), Felicia (regressed into degrading herself with married John), Rachel (mother to newborn twins, put into lengthy periods of trauma through her new relationship with Carl).
    • I'm of a certain age where I caught some of Upton's final year and it was not great but Jean Holloway was worse. All I remember is Bambi, Bambi, Bambi!
    • Yes, of course, all of those servants added to the overall picture at AW & also people had relationships with those servants! I like it when Anita asks after one of the servants at the club, how their children are doing & like that.
