Around 7-8 months, depending on whether you start from Stefano drugging Marlena into a dream state and playing out all those fantasies with her which ultimately left her vulnerable to possession (November 1994); or whether you start from the first acts of the Desecrator (December 1994). Marlena was revealed as the Desecrator and started levitating etc just before Christmas. She wasn't free of the demon until the following July.

I just hope it’s done well. No stupid ass one liners as people are fighting a demon lol

And at least let it drive other storylines and have long lasting effects on the canvas and everyone that’s involved in it.

Agreed. That’s one thing I liked about Reilly’s 1.0 run from ‘93-97. They always played it straight. There was no cheeky dialogue or winks to the audience. The film “The Exorcist” was never even mentioned once. They were 100% real despite their constant unrealistic obstacles.

I think what's exciting is that between this and Beyond Salem, they are doing a great job of keeping Days in the pop culture zeitgeist.

Soaps have such a rich history of promos that rile up excitement, it feels like Days of old.

Also, as I recall, the possession in 1994 was one of those stories that was consistently interrupted by the OJ trial.  Here in Los Angeles, it seemed like every third commercial during the trial was for the storyline.  And it felt both endless and repetitive because there were so many delays and disruptions that it extended the plot.

I’m so glad this isn’t going to be one of those stupid Halloween/April Fools one-offs.   I loved The Possession so I’m looking forward to this.

It probably goes without saying, but camp (as defined by Susan Sontag) is produced in earnest, without a wink and nod.  Stefano in a cravat with an undetermined European accent, Marlena and her fancy peignoir sets while being exercised, and the blind priest who can't sense when others are in the room were camp.  Middle aged actors doing stunts was camp.  And the cheap sets, special effects, and stock music were camp.  If those things were planned, it would seem silly and take us out of the drama.

Overt camp is not usually well received, because it takes away the audience's agency when we are being told what is funny, rather than being allowed to decide for ourselves.

I liked the self-parody of Rinna's scenes in Beyond Salem, but I think a writer can't force humor on soap fans without getting some pushback.  So, it will be interesting to see how this plays out.

I will NEVER forgive that hack, Reilly, for ruining Days with the possession garbage. Figures Ron "Retread" Carlivati, mini JER, would be all over that s-h-i-t.

I think it many ways this story has already been a success just in its announcement...people are talking about it! It's on non-soap sites as news. That's huge.

I'll hold out ultimate judgement until I see how the actual story plays out.

    • I guess it depends on your device.  I can watch CW shows via their website on my Windows PC.
    • Ooooo A Liam episode? I'll watch it later today. They sure are churning the daily episodes out early.

    • Welcome back, Shawn Douglas! It's been a while. It really is too bad that the writers don't really have an interest in the character because there are still a lot of ways that he can be used effectively on the canvas. He should have been a part of the 60th anniversary celebrations as well. If anything, just to represent Bo and Hope. And I'd much rather see Jada paired with him than possibly with Theo. But I enjoyed him getting caught up with Belle, and comforting her. I'm sure they'll find their way back to each other at some point but I do like them as divorced friends. I just hope we see it play out onscreen. Belle being a dick about Sami again was unnecessary though. And we finally saw Liam again!  I'm curious to see how this storyline is going to play out, and who's going to be weaved into it. He and Abe do work well together too. And we learned that he has a kid. Hopefully, we'll learn more about his character in the future. But I'm not really sure about Johnny and Chanel suddenly having problems with raising Trey. They've wanted a baby for so long, so I don't understand why this is even an issue. They should know by now what it's like to raise a baby. But I did enjoy Johnny's scenes with EJ, and that Johnny still hasn't refused to forgive him. This storyline was/is very clunky, but having the two of them be at odds is the right decision. There's so much story potential that can be drawn from that. As for Chad... there was no time for us to see his reunion with Will, but there's time for us to see him talking BS with Leo? I don't get it. And I don't get all this random dating app stuff either. Leo and Javi were boring af too. If we're forced to endure them, can they at least have some real conflict? The two of them losing the baby was the perfect opportunity for it.

    • I enjoy BF better on Days than on YR.   Chad is greater than Cane, in my opinion.
    • Ick! Seeing MS and BF making out as the characters onscreen was just ewwww.
