I don't agree with that; all the more since the award systems has always been completely messed up when it comes to soaps.
Whether it is the Emmys or anybody else, judging based on one episode or two always leads to really dumb choices because the people who vote don't watch the shows. One good episode when you air five episodes a week 52 weeks a year is not a representative sample.
And the writing skill for a soap should actually reward consistency over one isolated good episode - the same way I wish acting awards for soaps would reward steady non-showy subtle character work over years rather than one big dramatic scene.

But I am still glad soaps are getting recognized even when it is the wrong one (and to be fair, none of the shows had stellar writing last year so Days is not necessarily the wrong choice in context)

My question is what's spurring on the new sets?

1. DAYS has yet to announce a renewal and as far as I know this is the latest the show has gone without a renewal announcement.

2. The existing sets were acceptable as is. Y&R and B&B have maintained so many of their sets for decades - what is the benefit for DAYS to spend money recreating existing sets when the show has struggled with its budget for years?

Well the ranch and Chancellor House redesigns were major disasters so I think both of them would have been fine staying as is.

On B&B I can't think of any of their regular sets that has been "redesigned". The Forrester house, Brooke's house, the beach house, the offices at Forrester's are still the same decades later.

Is it me or does it seem like in recent weeks the use of flashbacks and dream sequences have increased? Very JER feeling. Perhaps the flashbacks are being used more regularly because the pacing is so bad. That aside, I agree DAYS is the most entertaining of the remaining soaps. Congrats to Ron but hopefully the pacing improves.

Camila Banus has become such an asset to this show and really makes Gabi work, even though the character is usually insane and never has believable, consistent motivation.  Like even during the dumbest $h!t, she's always a character I pay attention to.  The only time I have NO use for her is when she's after Chad, for whatever reason it happens to be this time.

And I know we've been talking about sets lately, but I've gotta say the show is on a visual high these days.  Sometimes it's too darkly lit, but I really like the sets they have in rotation now (except for the K sitting room) and depending on the director, the camera angles and movement can be pretty on point by "Days" standards depending on the day.

    • It's doubly a shame because one thing Long excelled at was using backstory to enhance the present story. I think that's one reason why Josh and Reva took off the way they did--the early stuff is really good. (Unfortunately, they ruined it by overusing the characters). Imagine if Roger returned to get involved with Alex, and her brother and ex, who used to be dire enemies, came together to oppose him. Instead, Mike was nowhere to be seen and Alan was written out for years. Yes, casting would have been an issue, but when you think about what they wound up with for 15 years...
    • I've never been so annoyed to be running late. lol   EVERYONE looks so pretty.   Happy to see Andre and Eva interacting, Mona being there, and happy to see Nicole play matchmaker for Dani. Fingers crossed that FOINE doctor from Nicole's last event pops up.   @kalbir Andre looking like a snack in that tux.

      Lmao!!!!
    • Also gotta feel sorry for Mona, realizing today was that she’s only known Leslie for a few months; she’s going to blame herself for all of this.
    • The way this show handled Nikolas' shooting Hayden, Austin's murder, the long slow delay to getting rid of Cyrus, etc. we're likely to have it revealed in a year when Nina is 3 weeks away from leaving and has had minimal airtime.
    • Interesting. I love my Roku.  No, I don't know. Who? I mean Disney def does. I would think a number of parties have stocks.
    • Is he still spamming demands that they hire the campy chick from The Haves and Have Nots? Or whichever show it was. I don't think it's an either/or. I happen to think Dana, Dani, Eva, Nicole, Kat, etc. are all great. Certain folks aren't going to be some posters' favorites and that's fair enough. But I would argue most of those characters above (and several others) have caught on with a lot of the online audience. I've even warmed up to Martin!
    • We get it, you don't like this show or the actors. You've said that over and over again, Mr. Vanguard America/VDARE.
    • Lol at the WSB hot guy asking Joss if she was okay with betraying her friends.  Of course she is! Chase coming in hot at Dante was a choice. It's also quite hypocritical since Chase is lying to him about Dante's own child and making Lulu the bad guy.  Talk to the grown woman yourself Chase.  Don't make Dante do it. Lulu and Laura had some great scenes. The Rocco/Danny party is obvious an anvil for something happening and probably the Gio secret coming out. The Willow/Drew/Nina scenes were kind of anti-climatic?  I get why Nina chose this path as the way to get rid of Drew, but will anyone ever find out Drew was sleeping with Nina?
