Thomas and Fin had more sexual chemistry in their brief, socially distanced interaction than any couple tgis show is trying to make happen at the moment. Vinny better keep an eye on his man. LOL!

If Brad Bell wants to drum up some publicity and do a half way decent story that's progressive and L.A., why not make Fine bi and make a Steffy/Fin/Thomas triangle happen. I'd actually enjoy that story most for the Steffy/Thomas rivalry part of it. And the scandal.

Just a thought, but I've always coughed up Brad Bell's lack of progressive creativity and misogynistic writing due to the fact he's also writing for international audiences in countries unfortunately aren't nearly as progressive as North America and he doesn't want to do anything to alienate that audience because face it, without them, B&B wouldn't really have any legs to stand on.

On one hand, it does sound A LITTLE like one of those psychological stories that Bill Bell would have done in the 70s.

On the other hand, I wonder if this all just an extremely stupid way to raise ratings. Because people are bound to watch just to see how ridiculous it is.

I don't think that's it. Most countries it airs in are just as progressive as/more progressive than the USA. I think it's because Brad Bell is just not very progressive himself and he doesn't really care about pushing the boundaries.

Yes, I was just going to make the same comment. The US is definitely less progressive than most of Western, Central and Northern Europe. It also doesn't help that US soaps are less progressive than the majority of primetime, cable and streaming offerings from the US. These poor soaps must seem so bland and generic to most international viewers as they do to most American viewers.

The only religious/conservative countries I can think of where B&B was exported to are Israel, Egypt, Turkey, India. I don't know if B&B was exported anywhere else in the Middle East or South Asia.

Ahh, I didn't mean to ruffle any feathers haha. But I guess my thoughts come from mainly personal anecdotes rather than factual evidence as someone from a third-world country background where we have soaps that are very similar akin to telenovelas where the most popular and successful ones have writing that is generally formulaic and misogynistic (i.e. the good girl vs the bad girl and they're fighting over a man). I hope that makes sense? Haha

Apparently, the show also aired in Iran for a brief time (in 2009 according to wikipedia). It was also broadcast in Morocco, Pakistan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, and a few Sub-Saharan African countries. I know that the show was censored in Egypt (they cut scenes where people showed to much skin and even altered the opening credits to remove the pictures of the models), but the audience in these countries isn't stupid and they would notice bad writing as well. Soaps are very popular in Turkey and the Arab world (similar to telenovelas in South America).

    • I don't think they had any idea who he was this time last year. I think they were keeping their options very open. Same with totally dropping the Trina romance that was spoiled for him in the mags once FV clearly took a shine to him. Frank's priorities are bright and blazing in one color. I do think Gio and Emma seem to have worked out given that she is very dry and sarcastic and he is like a hot golden retriever, but I'd still play the field or explore quads with both with very different people - Emma with a scheming young man (of color), Gio with possibly Trina or someone else, or even a boy. Then maybe put them back together, who knows. But of course none that will happen.

    • He definitely got lost in the shuffle last year. First, they were implying that he was Drew’s son, then he was nothing more than just Violet’s bff

And then they changed him to being Dante and Brook Lynn’s son, which was clunky at first but I’m enjoying the storyline now.
    • GM is adorable, charming and fun onscreen despite months of nothing to do until recently, and has a bodacious bod. I'm not cosigning the show or this story - I haven't watched a full episode in over a month - but I think we're all taking the small victories in 2025 at this point. I'm open to testing this theory!
    • I think Jason might've posted some numbers for the syndication a while ago and the numbers for Falcon Crest was horrible. Like 1.5 rating or something, which was terrible.    ETA: it was actually Paul Raven:   New to syndication 60 min Fall Guy 67 markets 3.1/8 Falcon Crest 110 markets 1.1/5 To get into the top 40, you needed a 4.6/9 rating for reference - and Falcon Crest managed to get into a lot of markets to begin with. In the fall of 1985 Dynasty, Dallas and Knots were syndicated (show / rating / share / coverage % / markets): Dallas 3.4 10 51.7 92 Dynasty 3.4 10 48.7 47  Knots Landing 3.3 10 12.5 20  So, Knots as an example trippled Falcon Crest's rating with 20 markets - I'm sure those were major ones but it just goes to show you how much Falcon Crest bombed in syndication.
    • It's not bad but the stories move too slow. It's the same problem when Dan O'Connor was CO-HW with Van Etten, they have a million stories and they all drag on endlessly with no resolution. I'd argue the majority of the stories airing now are good but you get sick of waiting months for something to happen.
    • Thanks. I must have missed that period entirely for Lifetime.
    • Thanks. I know Marland did that type of thing sometimes but it's less likely with these characters. I don't even remember Alex ever mentioning him.
