It’s awful.  This wasn’t a special episode because they wanted to do something outside the box or celebrate an anniversary.  It was because an important person passed away.

Submitting these episodes for an award was already crass.  It’s also exploitative.  They didn’t honor their Black characters enough when he was alive, and they haven’t since this funeral.

About the only good thing Corrine Jacker did was integrate Another World's Bay City.  The actors were certainly talented, but they were given typical soap storylines.  AW also gave several recurring  dayplayer parts to African American actors when Bob and Henrietta's son, RJ, got involved with gang members.  I believe if AW's ratings had increased with the integrated cast, then more shows would have integrated their casts at the time.   It would take until 1989 for NBC to attempt this integration again with Generations.

It's sad that people will still tune into this show when new episodes start back up again, knowing full well the show marginalized KSJ in his final years on the show, then proceeded to squelch their talented black actors and has (successfully) exploited all of them to score an Emmy, without a second thought to how badly this makes Y&R look.

At least there should be no doubt where their intentions are. Viewers can no longer claim ignorance in their complicity.

FINALLY MADE IT THROUGH!!! YAY!!!

SO... @Khan, thank you for giving me life in this thread. I lived.

This has definitely given me food for thought but worth talking about.  It did make me think about Y&R Neil. When I was earlier, it did feel like William Bell did want to see Neil stand on his own two feet. He ran Newman for a time. Then he went to run Jabot for a time. It was kinda sad that while he did become independently wealthy vs being Victor's right hand that we never really saw that feeling of achievement because I remembered that was part of his drive at one point...to be his own person with his own company. I am sure that someone who knows the history better than me can explain it better.

What did Kristian Alfonso do? I admit to be afraid of the answer, but hey...I'm grown.

It was pre-me here so I have to ask who is SWSNBN that Toup AND Errol have the name barred. Is it a specific writer for a specific magazine by chance or am I off based? You can PM me.

I wonder if VR will have guests on her podcasts? If she could get Stephanie E. Williams, Tonya Lee Williams and Tamara Tunie and Tonya Pinkins, etc. to talk about their daytime experiences...that would be a hot ticket!  I really want someone to interview those actresses because I don't think anyone's asked them about their experiences in daytime in the last decade or more.

When OLTL 2.0 was on the web as a TOLN soap, I had this image of Corbin Blue's character being connected to Carla, perhaps her grandson and VR would play his mother but I knew no one in daytime was brave enough to do it. Perhaps if PP hadn't been such a structural mess, the idea might have stood a chance.

I tweeted something similar like this a few weeks ago. I hope she does get to interview them and they go in depth with their experiences as black women in the medium. I know Alan Locher reached out to Tamara Tunie twice and both times she said no. So maybe Victoria will have better luck.

    • I don't think they had any idea who he was this time last year. I think they were keeping their options very open. Same with totally dropping the Trina romance that was spoiled for him in the mags once FV clearly took a shine to him. Frank's priorities are bright and blazing in one color. I do think Gio and Emma seem to have worked out given that she is very dry and sarcastic and he is like a hot golden retriever, but I'd still play the field or explore quads with both with very different people - Emma with a scheming young man (of color), Gio with possibly Trina or someone else, or even a boy. Then maybe put them back together, who knows. But of course none that will happen.

    • He definitely got lost in the shuffle last year. First, they were implying that he was Drew’s son, then he was nothing more than just Violet’s bff

And then they changed him to being Dante and Brook Lynn’s son, which was clunky at first but I’m enjoying the storyline now.
    • GM is adorable, charming and fun onscreen despite months of nothing to do until recently, and has a bodacious bod. I'm not cosigning the show or this story - I haven't watched a full episode in over a month - but I think we're all taking the small victories in 2025 at this point. I'm open to testing this theory!
    • I think Jason might've posted some numbers for the syndication a while ago and the numbers for Falcon Crest was horrible. Like 1.5 rating or something, which was terrible.    ETA: it was actually Paul Raven:   New to syndication 60 min Fall Guy 67 markets 3.1/8 Falcon Crest 110 markets 1.1/5 To get into the top 40, you needed a 4.6/9 rating for reference - and Falcon Crest managed to get into a lot of markets to begin with. In the fall of 1985 Dynasty, Dallas and Knots were syndicated (show / rating / share / coverage % / markets): Dallas 3.4 10 51.7 92 Dynasty 3.4 10 48.7 47  Knots Landing 3.3 10 12.5 20  So, Knots as an example trippled Falcon Crest's rating with 20 markets - I'm sure those were major ones but it just goes to show you how much Falcon Crest bombed in syndication.
    • It's not bad but the stories move too slow. It's the same problem when Dan O'Connor was CO-HW with Van Etten, they have a million stories and they all drag on endlessly with no resolution. I'd argue the majority of the stories airing now are good but you get sick of waiting months for something to happen.
    • Thanks. I must have missed that period entirely for Lifetime.
    • Thanks. I know Marland did that type of thing sometimes but it's less likely with these characters. I don't even remember Alex ever mentioning him.
