I remember the Masquerade Ball. I saw it in 1994 because of the delay in transmission to the U.K. at that time. Can’t wait to see the episode.

I got a real kick out of the David Kimble storyline as well.

I've always wanted to see the ball. I love how they used the characters in costume for the ball as the inner illustrations for the Y&R 25th Anniversary book.

I'm there with you cause I stopped watching the show around 2005! What I regret the most is not watching the show when it was written by Jean Passanante and Shelley Altman! Are you familiar with them?

No, never heard of them

Ryan was shot and killed by Tricia in November 2001 and that's how they were both written off. Nina left in earlier in 2001 to pursue her writing career until returning back to Y&R in 2009 in time for the mess of a Phillip III is back from the dead storyline.

Ohhhhhhh I dont know why I dont remember him actually being killed. For some reason I was thinking that him and Nina left the show together. Thank you!

All soaps have their psychos sometimes. I just hate that it seems like they are more often women who go crazy over not ending up with the man that they want. At least that was the typical in the 90's and early 2000's. Like Julia on ATWT. She was normal then went completely psycho over Jack, even raping him in order to get pregnant by him. UGH! I hated that story.

That's exactly it. It was far more than just a quota! And, yes, her descent into madness took well over a year and was exacerbated by her getting close with Matt Clarke.

You're correct about YR's approach to 'psycho' women back then (Veronica, Mari Jo), they didn't just snap randomly - there was a lot of build up. What I meant by quota is that every two years or so, another woman went over the edge for good and usually in a big way: Lisa (1989), Sheila (1993), Mari Jo (1996), Veronica (1998), Tricia (2001). I seem to recall Leanna was destined to have the same fate, but something switched radically. I'm definitely missing stuff and maybe others. But it was a clear pattern.

I guess I was remembering that I really liked Tricia, how she evolved and was more sad to see her go. I just reread her bio and it all came flooding back to me. She was involved in some really good stuff. I disliked the Victor/Tricia stuff ('ick'), but was surprised when she made the false allegations. To be fair, he was conning her.

I see what you mean - her raping Victor and accusing him of rape was especially insulting to women - but I think psychos are part of the winning Y&R formula, also right before her we did have Matt Clark who could balance her out.

Woah hang on WHAT?! When did this happen??

When Tricia started showing signs of the crazy, Victor offered her to live in his penthouse so he could keep an eye on her and keep Victoria safe. Tricia drugged Victor with sleeping pills and viagra, had sex with him, and then claimed he raped her.  He got out of jail in time for Victoria and Ryan's wedding, but it was too late, Tricia had put on a wedding dress, walked down the aisle, and shot Ryan.

I was following Y&R quite heavily at the time, and I must have blanked that particular detail out. God that is insane 😆

Y&R could do scary, disturbing villains better than anyone for a good 15 years. A lot of the Tricia/Matt stuff was so legitimately unsettling that it actually drove me away from the show (and that’s not a criticism). MAB tried and failed to replicate that with Adam and Patty.

One of my all-time favorite scenes is David Kimble getting crushed in the trash compacter. That was nuts and impossible to imagine on today's Y&R. I was a really young fan of horror and thrillers, and it definitely stood out to me.

That was a great interview with Jess! I’m glad she has such fond memories of what must have been an exhausting 3 days!
