I know 2005 is generally considered as the end of the second golden age (or the VERY end of it), I loved this period. Ashley B. as Mac is always a treat. As an actress, she was one of the few younger actors who could go head to head with Jeanne Cooper, Jess Walton, and the established Y&R crew.

hi, I've been reading here for some time, and joined last month, but had difficulty logging in.

Finally here to post. I love reading everyone's knowledge of history.

Global says Thu 5/28 (Fri 5/29 in US) is episode #9390.

First US airing May 4, 2005.

Was Sarah Smythe really Sheila's sister?  Sheila had so many convoluted plotlines that I never quite followed who was really Sheila, who was a character with plastic surgery, who was pretending to be whom, etc through the years.

I loved the masquerade ball episode that they rebroadcast in April.

Who was Mamie's date, and who was the actor who played him?

I enjoyed seeing all the characters being introduced by the emcee, as the entered at the top of the stairs.

I compared the version posted on CBS All Access with the original from YRfan23's playlist, to see what CBS cut.

I see that CBS cut the scene of Mamie and her date being introduced by the emcee.  Mamie was introduced as "Bessie Smith".  I couldn't quite hear how her date was introduced.

Classic Sheila, Mari Jo, Tricia shooting Ryan, Michael trying to rape Christine with Nina locked in the bathroom, Veronica shooting Nikki. How the hell do you fix your mind to think we wanna see Sarah Smyth?!

today's episode........Shemar was at his yummiest! Good lord! And also during this period Neil was better looking. I think he looks better with a goat tee then a clean shaven face.

I LOVED the brief romantic relationship between Neil and Victoria and I remember being PISSED that it didn't go anywhere grrrrrrr. The only person I liked Heather Thom with.

Speaking of Victoria......loved seeing a classic episode with Amelia's refreshing face and portrayl rather than Heather's sour puss face

I'm wondering if there were bits cut from this footage, because to me it seems that may be the case. At 11:23, Laurie tells her psychiatrist that the bar phoned saying that Mark got in a fight and needs to be picked up. It starts to fade to the next scene, you hear some different music begin and get cut off between the static-y cuts, and where you'd expect to see the aftermath of the fight, we cut back to a later scene of Laurie in bed worrying about what's happening. The credits at the end also show that more than Mark, Laurie and Dr. Northcote should have been in this episode. Another character, Brody, played by Ed Setrakian, is mentioned but not shown. Perhaps the original fan who saved this episode has the additional scenes.
    • Anyway… It’s a shame that the video that depicted Leticia’s death was removed from YT.

I've never seen a trainwreck like this in my entire life. 5 pencils and 3 dolls?!!!!!!!!!!! (this little moment starts close to the 7th minute) WOW. THIS IS HAPPENING IN AMERICA?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    • Ms. Phelps holds a BFA in directing from Carnegie Mellon University, awarded in 1972. At a time when women were underrepresented in directing programs, she was one of the few women in her graduating class. To suggest that she possessed no further talents than completely changing the style of music used on soaps seems like a vast underestimate when one reads her online biography through an objective lens. I guess that I should be more clever than to constantly blame misogyny for these misguided interpretations of her management style.  But, I'll never comprehend why fans unquestionably align their opinions even years after fact. Post-modernism, and the ability to reinterpret context through the study of history, seems to elude this conversation.

    • This is 100% correct.  It was even on the nightly news where the US Government would not let the cast and crew travel to Egypt because it was deemed not safe.  The Achille Lauro hijacking took place on October 7, 1985, when the Italian ocean liner MS Achille Lauro was hijacked by four men representing the Palestine Liberation Front off the coast of Egypt, as she was sailing from Alexandria to Ashdod, Israel. The location shoot was probably scheduled to be filmed in mid-October to air throughout November with a two week tape to air date.  Remember on the show they did some in studio scenes doubling for Egypt before shifting the action to Arizona.  It was an awkward end to a truly bizarre storyline.

New episode from late 1973 or early 1974!
    • Coronation Street had a very good story where one of the characters befriended a man who she later learned had been involved in her husband's death - when told right it can be very powerful (not like AMC trying to make it a romance). ATWT almost had a big fire in mid-1994, so this seemed to be a "thing" with P&G at the time. I guess it fits the disaster backstage atmosphere.
    •   @jmgaw did not refer to Luke and Laura. Throughout 78 GH's ratings continued to rise as AW's fell. That turnaround was getting a lot of attention in the soap press with Scotty/Laura, Rick/Leslie/Monica etc . So the 90 min decision was a reaction to that. I guess the thinking was that 60 min expansion had worked so starting AW a half hour before might keep viewers from switching to GH at 3pm. I don't think anybody really thought it would work. The most sensible solution would have been to expand The Doctors and hope for a GH like turnaround, but for reasons unknown TD never went to an hour.
    • Like I said competing organization But this is not what I want to happen.
