Okay, that makes two celebrities -- Betty White, and the dude who played Jordan Catalano -- we have to keep safe from this [!@#$%^&*].  Anyone else?  (C'mon, people, we've already let down Tom Hanks and everybody's baby daddy, Idris Elba!)

The Republicans won't like that news coming out of Dallas and not because of people being having  the coronavirus but because Trump has been dogwhistling  the Corona as a blue state issue.

Here in North Carolina, Governor Roy Cooper has issued an executive order that started 5:00 pm this evening, prohibiting all bars and restaurants from having dine in customers. There's only going to delivery and takeout for now. Plus he expanded unemployment benefits. Of course the Right on social media referred to him a tyrant (like they would have done Obama or Democratic president  if they were in charge) and accused him of infringing on their 1st amendment rights and hurting businesses.

It's the toxic combination of trying to posture online, believing the naivete peddled by hucksters that all you have to do is kill old people and you get what you want, and believing you have no future so lol who cares if you die or kill other people. That's why you have so many idiots out there at beaches and in clubs. And once these deaths start, or crippling lifelong injuries, no amount of reaction gifs, likes or retweets or podcasts will be any comfort to them. Maybe this will finally be the moment that kickstarts a lot of people into facing reality, but it's hard to believe at this point.

The Internet in the U.S. is slow and poor quality because the corporate behemoths have done diddly squat to do anything but the most superficial of improvements for at least the last 15 years. When smaller companies ruled the roost, they tended to be more nimble and there was more competition among them, therefore fees remained competitive (and relatively low) and advancements in technology happened frequently. Now, we're told constantly about the advancements of 5G (whenever that gets to most consumers) but VOIP has degraded and WiFi is still insecure and prone to problems.

It doesn't surprise me that when put to the test, most people believe that Internet in the U.S. will fail.
