Hopefully this scrutiny doesn’t just fade the way these issues tend to in our short attention spanned culture because it really and conclusively pushes back against that ridiculous “good guy with a gun” narrative. With the reports of children desperately calling 9-1-1 for help and a child pretending to be dead so that the gunman would overlook her, the children are out here fighting for their own lives. This is horrible and should be investigated. HOWEVER. They cannot blame the deaths *solely* on police apathy. The national outrage still needs to be focused on guns. Well I mean *both* are horrifying. I just don't want one to eclipse the other. The police leaving the children in the classroom to die... is complete disregard for life. Allowing the guns to be sold is also complete disregard for life. It is not my intention to compare one as being worse than the other, they are different things. This may come as a surprise to many but as someone who grew up in the “inner city”, many of us know that police lie, plant evidence, harass (including sexual harassment) and assault (including sexual assault) people. As for lying about an event or occurrence that can easily be disproven, that seems to be a persistent addition courtesy of Trumpism, imo.
