This was probably what MM needed because some sit too long in these roles when they have so much potential to move on.  MM is one of those people!  She made a good decision, IMHO

Which is true. It's definitely a good time. But I want it on her terms. And it's not CBS fault. This is 100% on Sony Pictures Television.

Agree.  I still think letting her go is a waste, but you do make a good point.

Mal was getting his wish as viewers were hating MM character. Her character was written so horribly by previous and current writers. It's a shame Mal wasted such a talented actress with mediocre writing.

This is correct. Remember they're the one who 'fired' ED from Y&R because they wanted her to go to DAYS. Sony owns the show and CBS license it. CBS steps in, but it's usually with EP/Writers, not often with actors. 

 

Plus MTS, EB, and SC all left after contract negotiations failed - only to work something out and come back a couple of months later.

Also happened to JM years ago. Remember Nick's plane crash and amnesia. That story resulted from contract issues.

I've been wanting her to do more outside of Y&R and this is the perfect opportunity.

Y&R really needs to figure out what to do next because this is devastating to the show. She was the straw that stirs the drink, and Mal and Sally used her as a crutch when things got boring. Gina Tognoni, as fantastic and committed as she is, doesn’t have that arresting star quality that Mishael has. If only they could bite the bullet and get Victoria Rowell back...that’s the only person in recent Y&R memory (other than maybe TL, whose character they stupidly killed off) who just makes everything seem effortless.
