I'm way behind, but just popping in to say I wish they would give Lannie some spunk. Valerie used her position at the hospital to get in Lannie's business and Lannie just takes it? Are you kidding me? COME ON, girl! If someone did that to me, I would definitely threaten to sue and that is just the start. Soap character me, would put that woman through the ringer. Not that I think Lannie was in the right with this lie, but who cares!? Give us some drama here

This is coming from someone who, up until now, has been enjoying Ron's DAYS (mostly):

- I see we're back to nothing mattering longterm on this show. Theo's shooting didn't affect the Hortons' and the Carvers' relationship whatsoever, it was just an extreme plot point to usher Theo off canvas and set up this WTD story for Lani and JJ.

- On a related note, I see Maggie's moving out. Yeah, that'll last until next week, I'm sure. They gave some great rationale for it, but if there's no lasting impact, does it matter?

- I'm sorry. I blinked for a moment and apparently missed Billie's entire return "story". And in two days, this Pam Van Dam show up, hold the kids hostage, and dies and they're already back to their petty angst with Claire, as though nothing happened? Stupid!

- These returns are great, but I don't see the point if they're going to last a week at a time, and they interact with only a small sliver of the characters they were involved with when regulars. Carrie's return was ridiculous like this, as someone said upthread.

- The guarantees are killing this show. Something's gotta give. And fast.

So this entire Gabi-gail plot is Ron's convoluted way of getting Tyler and Marci to interact and their characters to have sex.  What about doing a classic triangle that doesn't force a good character into the hole of murder and insanity.  Ron's staking the next year on these two but it's already feeling like a flop.

I love Ciara. On a major Ciara/Tripp ship right now

However, Kate is still my favourite by far. Obviously not knowing much of her history she hasn’t worn on me like many viewers but I could watch her all day long, the actress is absolutely brilliant.

Love the Will/Paul stuff still too.

Eli is the weakest character by far. Lani is awful too. I’m sick of her snivelling.

I’d like to see more of Valerie who I really like. She has loads of potential IMO.

It was stupid for DAYS to introduce Eli through killing off David Banning. His presence would have deepened Eli and Valerie’s (and Abe’s) stories tremendously, but it’s clear that the show didn’t want that. They wanted a few token roles so that they could claim diversity without investing any budget or character development in them. It is cynical and retrograde.

Eli is a bore with usually a zombie look on his face. He is usually always brooding and if a woman crosses him .....he cheats on her.

I am still two episodes behind.....Will catch up this weekend.

Kate and Billie being mother and daughter looks ludicrous. Billie looks older than Kate. I was gobsmacked, I've never seen Billie before, or at least I've never known Kate was her mother.

Couple of things I've noticed after watching about 20 episodes

-I really hate it when characters talk to themselves. Only sociopaths tend to do this in real life so it looks unrealistic.

-the show needs more humour and everyday plots.

I don't know what to make of Stefan O. The jury's out.

I'm still struggling to figure out some of the family connections on the show, but am I right in thinking that Julie is Hope's half-sister and step-mother? I love Doug and Julie.

I strongly feel the show could do with a clear-out of certain characters and to introduce an entirely new family. Everything is steeped in history which can be great but I feel adding some new, fresh characters might help take the show forward.

Given the hardships Billie had growing up...drug use, living on the streets...it makes sense she would be older and more hardened then her mother Kate.

The lack of long term fall out isn't just a problem with days, but all the remaining soaps.  I've watched reruns on retro of the doctora...and one girls crush in mid 1973 jumpstarted long term ripples being felt in the mid 1975 episodes...2 years later.

For me, soaps should have evolved and updated...even quickened the pace...but the soaps should have maintained long term effects of a plot instead of rinse and repeat and/or hamster wheel.  I think Reilly started that trend..imho

There is only 10 years between the actresses as well. I keep getting distracted by Billie's lips in every scene she's in.

Abi

Wasn't expecting that. Love the twist. Those scenes between Stefan O and Abi were delightfully twisted.

Lani feels so inconsistent as a character. She's a cop, it makes no sense for her to trick JJ into thinking he's going to be a father and get married. I don't believe Eli would go along with it either.

Will and Paul need to hurry up and get on it.

    • I assume they did at some point during the finale...
    • Kelly was a horribly-written character overall. Just think, two Emmy-winning actresses (including Cynthia Watros, Nina, GH, and Annie, GL) couldn't make it work. Pamela is campy, but so are Dani, Vanessa, Leslie, and Joey. And, I don't want to be too judgy because my love for camp changes depending on the show. OLTL, DAYS, and some eras of GH had me rolling with the camp. However, Passions was overkill and I hated it. And, here, I can take it or leave it. It's ok in small doses (note to RC). I see this show as more of a serious drama.
    • I think one of the reasons that pilot didn't get picked up was because Vicki L was associated more with being Thelma Harper and playing older then she was playing her own age.  It was a blessing it didn't get picked up, or we would have been deprived of the syndicated era of Mama's Family.   Also, worth noting a Pre Night Court Marsha Warfield and pre Perfect Strangers Rebecca Arthur in the cast.  All talented women, but stuck with a bad script. And the other pilot had a pre Fran Fine.. Fran Drescher as the best friend.  I think that pilot might have been picked up if Karen Valentine and Fran Drescher switched roles.
    • So, on rewatch....did Rick and Mindy never have sex?
    • Cady had a fairly posh accent or manner as Rosanna - the character was a 180 from Dixie when she went to ATWT, and it was a huge success initially. As someone mostly only familiar with the nagging, miserable or clueless Dixie of the mid-late '90s and early 2000s it was what convinced me Cady could act. I thought she was incredible in her first run. Later, in future stints, her hair and story and performances were all over the place but a lot of that was down to the show for me. She brought some of Rosanna back with her to Dixie in her ill-fated return and a lot of people didn't like it, which I understood but I did think the character needed some change. I think she's had a little bit of the same persona and arch performance in every role she's played since, including Jennifer Horton at DAYS or Kelly at Y&R, who later became a maniac and was easily the worst work I've ever seen Cady do. It has kind of infected her overall mannerisms, I'll allow that, but I do think she brought Dixie back together as herself while still evolving the character when she returned to AMC again in 2012-13. Nonetheless, for me the upshot is that this is a character where Cady's kookier recent performance style suits the role. But I can understand it grating for people.
    • Yeah, Loretta Swit's passing stings. My late dad LOVED the show (he died last November) and watched it religiously. In first run and repeats.  And I was literally born the day after the show's premiere, so I grew up with it! I know many loved later, softer Margaret, but I loved Early Hot Lips. In real life, I'm all for less misogyny, but to me, the early years of M*A*S*H were just funnier. May Loretta Swit rest in peace. Thanks for all the memories connected to my dad!

    • I agree that she isn't Dixie or Rosanna and shouldn't be acting like either. I just found it strange that she had a naive Southern character and a wealthy urbane character in the past and didn't experiment with accents before (unless I missed it, correct me if I'm wrong). She used to do improv characters on YouTube. She's probably doing something similar here.

    • And here I thought I'd never think about Lauren Tewes again after her brief appearance in Twin Peaks Season 3.
    • I may be the single person who does not mind Transatlantic Campy Pamela. I think it perfectly suits this sort of Absolutely Fabulous-esque supporting character she's playing much more than it did when Cady tried weird and often broad stuff at AMC* or Y&R, or later stints at ATWT. She's not Dixie and she's not trying to be. I will freely admit some of the other chances she took at other shows often came off stiff, hammy or downright mortifying (Kelly Andrews, come on down). (* - and I say that as one of the few who was somewhat into Cady trying to make Dixie more cosmopolitan in the Rosanna Cabot mold in mid-2000s AMC, just to liven the character up again)
