.Just as an aside, didn't production have better stock music for Devon's fateful car ride?  That music was atrocious, and somehow I don't see Devon listening to that type of music, let alone blasting it in his new whip. Nah-uh.

What not sure what type of music it was, but it makes sense that it wouldn't be one of Devon favorites. He was in no state to be picky about choosing music. He just bought the car, I'm sure the stations were pre-programmed by the dealership. Besides, it's Wisconsin, be thankful it wasn't polka music.

I've been contending since the beginning that the GC Buzz storyline is more suitable for teenagers than women over the age of 21, so I really won't say too much about what transpired on today's episode, only I wasn't surprised that the reveal fell flat.

The crash was predictable, maybe if Y&R hadn't had like 3 crashes in three years, this one might have had more impact but it's an over-used plot device and for a 4 day weekend cliff-hanger, disappointing...there's no other way to say it.

I like Mariah and Hilary but I don't care for the story. There's nothing there to get me invested in it.

The ride/crash scene was just horrible. I couldn't stand the loud music and it was very predictable. Couldn't they have come up with something else? Y&R has done too many damn car crashes.

Kevin and Chloe were just used to inform late guests to what they missed. Cause I have no idea why they were there.

And everyone else there was like WTF and just went on to their dancing .....boring....

I have to agree. I struggled to sit through the entire thing. Reed already needs a damn haircut.

sigh....I hate to say, maybe we expected too much for SSM and Alden.... :(

Their writing is predictable. They feature vets yet their stories are boring.  I just hope they are waiting till after the new year to really kick off their stories. But I doubt it with Nick and Chelesea romance to come....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I think its that way because he is going to cause trouble in GC. He is the new bad boy. I hope he gives Victoria hell.

Same for Jill, I'd like to see her have a storyline that doesn't involve Billy and Victoria's push-pull relationship. It's fairly obvious why Jill needs her very own story.

I hear it's coming up and I can't wait to see it.  I'd put the spoiler in tags but I can't figure out how to do it.

I had forgotten about Jill's upcoming story. I hope that with Lauren's that they are good but I am not confident about it after today's mess.

In terms of how much time SS and KA need for these storylines to take off, I can see both sides. On one hand, they were handed a big mess to unwind and start fresh, some of the characters they know well, if not their recent storylines, some they had to get to know as they wrote, which realistically takes time- if you want to do it well.

On the other hand, they are not new to the show or to writing for a soap, so it isn't exactly unfair to expect them to hit the ground running, especially with the storylines that they are starting like Lauren's trials and tribulations with Fenmore.

I think that realistically, it is not that difficult to have different stories moving at different paces. I understand that nobody is ever going to be Douglas Marland-esque and be able time things almost perfectly, but still. Not everything has to transition at a snails pace.

LOL, I was going to cite Marland but I wasn't sure whether it'd be appropriate in a Y&R thread!  Glad you mentioned this because I figured people would be sick of me going on about Marland's writing.  You're right, he's exactly who I was thinking of when I wrote this!

And no, there are no more Marlands writing today's soaps, another reason why I didn't mention it, I wondered if it would be too much to hope for that ability.

I just dont tag spoilers anymore. It was so much easier before with the spoiler indicator .....as for Y&R I got the feeling also that Hilary wasn't responsible for Mariah's fall.  Why wasn't there a catfight between the two ladies? Instead Neil got in the way and ruined any possible scene. And I am not caring how Hilary is being written anymore. Is she this conniving bitch or misunderstood ....

Marland was great but had his clunkers...LOL.  He is my favorite HW of all time. He made me love ATWT and GL....two soaps he HW.

Yes it is true! I wish all soap writers would just study Marland. Learn so many certain intricacies. Gosh it is so frustrating lol

I really like JT as Billy. I can see a playful side, but he hasn't had much of a chance to show it. Unfortunately he was cast just in time for the Phyllis/Billy affair. That wasn't lighthearted. It was mean, dark, and serious . SSM was right, the story was done at the expense of both characters. It was especially bad timing for JT, because he had to play a Billy that never existed before.  Hard to establish yourself in a role if the character is written out-of character.

I just love Billy and Jill. He seems and looks like her actual son.  Both Jill & John had brown hair, Billy shouldn't have blondish Dina's features like Jack.

Absolutely agree!

Oh, of course he did!  But he had some sublime stories too. The Lily paternity reveal is a practical masterclass in how to spread out a storyline over a long period of time, while keeping your viewers hooked. And the way he layered the Doug Cummings and Tad Channing mysteries over it all was brilliant!

ETA. Brenda Dickson looks so gorgeous in that photo! I know she's a wreck now but still...

I enjoyed the show today as well.

I mentioned this up thread, but it's strange to me that the writing for the fall reveal didn't include an actual flashback showing Hilary did it.  Sure, her actions made her look guilty but we still haven't actually seen her do it.  Soaps 101- if it's not shown onscreen, it didn't happen, right?  Maybe I'm reaching.

Ravi was less stalkerish and I liked the mix up with Abby thinking he was fixin to go mac daddy on Mariah and introduced them.  I was hoping they'd end up with an accidental kiss at midnight.

And I'm in agreement, of all the things Hilary has done this is the thing that causes the spilt?  I seem to recall Devon saying it was the last straw, and that would make sense.  Any well written rivalry or feud, whatever you want to call it, has two characters equally rootable.  Someone should have called her out, like Jack.

Apparently there aren't a whole lotta happiness with the show right now, but I like it.  There are a lot of stories that could come from this benefit gala.

You're right. Hilary never admitted it but as far as viewers are concerned, it doesn't matter. They are flaying her anyway.
