Y&R: JFP Out! Mal Young In!

While I'm happy JFP is gone and I imagine Pratt will be out before too long as well. I'm not popping champagne yet. To me the real problem isn't necessarily them, but those above them. CBS/SONY's vision for Y&R seems to be to move away from anything resembling the "Bell style" and the result has been hiring of EP and HW that just don't fit or understand Y&R and we get a show that looks generic, with little DNA and uniqueness that made Y&R IMO and that's just not a Y&R I'm interested in. I'm not asking for a Bill Bell clone, but I think you can find someone that can modernize the show, while still keeping Y&R, Y&R. Kay Alden and others that worked Bill Bell are still around, should be involved with the show.

Like Khan said, as long as Sony and CBS remain as they are I don't think anything will change.

Just as they listened when fans asked for that pointless grifter of a character to get a massive demotion in airtime...

I don't even know why Judith Chapman is commenting. She's no longer with the show and it shouldn't matter to her one way or the other. It's not like she's some longtime vet of the show or anything. I feel like it's sour grapes on her part.

I think that's exactly why JC is commenting.  We've seen a lot less of her under JFP.  I like a little Gloria sprinkled into the show, like a few times a year.  IMO, JFP made a number of errors at Y&R, but reducing Gloria's airtime was not one of them.

Has anyone else from the cast commented on JFP 's exit?

I actually like Gloria. She was a fun quirky supporting character. However, I haven't forgotten when the show was centered around her and Baldwins for a few years. That was way too much. But supporting was a good role for her.

I haven't seen anyone comment on her departure but a few folks congratulated Young on twitter (JT and MGV, newbies). But those who have been around a while are mum on it on social media.

In a way, I do agree with Chapman and did feel a tad sorry for her, but it isn't dignified either and she definitely was never any big star of the show, just was mainly comic relief aside from a ridiculous story about sabotage in the form of tainted face cream that lasted TWO AND HALF FREAKING YEARS!

The unfortunate part about CBS/Sony is even though they may as well let Pratt go give Young and a new writer some autonomy they'll go ahead and run their own experiment on Y&R.  Of course first stories they'll offer up is another "Crazy Sharon" story(Sharon in a prostitution ring? Sharon in a BDSM relationship?) and our obligatory doppelganger story,  presumably this time with Heinle, Morrow, or Khalil.

I have no high expectations or hopes.

Neither do I.  If anything, the criticisms lobbed against his work on various UK shows (specifically, on "Brookside" and how he injected more sensationalistic, ratings-grabbing storylines) suggests to me that he is the LAST thing Y&R (or any US soap) needs.

MAB liked to bury people under stables, and Mal Young liked to bury 'em under patios.  Progress!

Yeah, CBS/SONY have been the real evil's deep down over everything.....and while Pratt, Jean,Shelley, Griffin, MAB, Latham etc....came up with ridiculous stories, I still wonder how much of those were tampered even worse by CBS/SONY's interfering....dare I wonder...maybe some stories that were suppose to appear on screen better, turned into utter crap thanks to them sabotaging everything?

The patio story on Brookside was actually good from what I've seen. It wasn't over-the-top and the audience actually loved that story from what I've seen. I've yet to see anyone say they hated it. Trevor Jordache, the character that got buried on the patio, was so loathed by the audience, I think they enjoyed watching his wife and daughters kill and bury his ass after beating and sexually abusing them.

I'm optimistic as UK soap producers tend to listen to the audience a bit more than ours over here. They just need to scrap Pratt though. I'll never trust his vision for Y&R.
