Which isn't saying very much at all, IMHO.

I think for the 50th Higley is better than Tomlin but for the show overall? It's a wash as to which is worse, IMO. They both have a couple of things I can tolerate about them and other biases that I'm not fond of. Again, it's pretty much a wash here.

Griffith is the only reason I'm trying so hard to be OK with this but Higley is not an inspired choice at all. Again, our best chance is if they can balance each other out but from an entertaining standpoint, I don't think the show will be any different. Boring, lifeless and aimeless.

Higley did well for Alice's memorial and that's her only saving grace with me for the upcoming 50th.

On second thought, this time around Griffith may be in charge and Higly as co head who will primarily there for her history with the show. That won't be so bad. I have to say that she and Mark Higly wrote the best writer's strike soap for five months when she was uncredited. It was way better than Sheffer's mess. He was so wrong for Days. Tomsell had to go. The show was downright comatose and they were out of ideas. I give them credit for getting the show back to some form of sanity and respectability. They needed to go at the end of last August. They were bereft of ideas.

Ugh. But, hey, her website says she's an Emmy Award-winner.

You learn something every day!

That, it does!

Maybe she's empathize with Paige and really give her the boomtastic champagne filled material that ho needs.

Is she a vegetable?

I am in shock! After the complete mess of her last run and Corday literally BEGGING the audience to stick with the show through summer 2011 until the reboot. I worry what this means for Drake, Deidre, and Bryan.... The only hope I have is hat I am not familiar with Josh's work (although most of what I have heard about him from GH and Y&R is pretty boring) and I do hope this means we will have an exciting storyline for the 50th since typically when new writers take over the is a lot if action and improvement while they are still fresh on the job... However I seriously worry about the long term implications of this writing regimen.... There are so many better options out there!!

    • Olivia did have a good reason for what she did. Still, I'd think she would be slower to pass such harsh judgment on Lois since she knows what she herself lived through. I'm hoping we get a softer Olivia when she reflects on everything.   I'm going to disagree with this. I don't think the character has been ruined and trashed, and I don't think it's impossible to come back from this. Yes, a great case can be made that this is out-of-character for Lois, but I can also make a case for people doing out-of-character things when life deals us crazy and impossible moments. Because of the story we're getting from this, I think it was worth putting Lois into this situation.

    • Hello everyone. I'm new to this forum but I have been a soap opera fan for only a few years. I started watching General Hospital in the 2010s on tv due to boredom. It wasn't good but it was okay enough to get curious about the soap opera genre. When I eventually got internet I started researching 90s and 2000s General Hospital. I have started only recently researching 80s and 90s Days of Our Lives. I was shocked when I found out that a black soap opera is going to be made, especially because the genre as a whole was on a downward trajectory. Now here I am as a black woman seeing a soap opera from the start. I'm all for Beyond the Gates succeeding.

    • That was so surprising to me today. I didn’t see any spoilers that this was coming up so I loved it!
    • Well, VI was leaving, and while Long admits that killing him was stupid...I do agree with letting him go with a big bang...body missing.  They spent a lot of time and money on Infinity, (which I think might have gotten a bit of a better reputation had it not been the harbinger of a total tonal change with the Bauers and Reardon's decimated and its all Reva and the Lewis and the weird people hanging out around Kyle) so they needed it to end dramatically. They could have done so much more with having Alex go after Kyle and Billy, but that ends and she starts moping over weird and boring Simon. With Kurt..what were you going to do.. cute but boring and perfect and with ties to no one (they had a nice little thing where Bea took him under her wing when everyone left but then she did too..) If they had the balls they would have had Rick and Mindy jump in the sack ( I know, Mindy should have learned birth control by then) I would have had it be Mindy who knows about Rick's drug use and she tries to help him...(not that nobody who came and went) of course, Kurt and Roxie misunderstand..that on top of her bad Sampson Girl thing leaves him to leave her temporarily, and in grand soap tradition, Rick and Mindy console each other (again, I would write it that they always really did, and Mindy rushed into things with Kurt) and she gets knocked up, and loving Rick but also Kurt she chooses to believe it is Kurts (which I could see Princess Mindy doing "My life is perfect and I will it that way, this is Kurts kid")But, she had the dumb model thing, then she burned down the house he was building, she tried to get prefers and he dies (but also Kobe was the one who built him up, then she was gone when he was let go.) Ross believe it or not is one of the last of the "old guard" characters, beside Ed (who is now FauxEd) and Maureen, and Henry and Van (who is ties to being the Lewis family mope.) JVD has made jokes that they didn't write him out as they simply forgot that he was there! Reva doesn't even call her mother when she comes back! I never saw the use of Sarah but they could have reunited them and sent her and Hawk out of town together. Hell, I don't like the Shaynes but she should have mentioned Roxie and Rusty.  The weird thing is that Dylan had a ton of story and was very important to the Van/Bridget baby custody story. By the time Reva comes back Dylan had only been gone a year so its not like people wouldn't know him..( I liked him and Bridget together...) So he comes back in 97 and acts like it's no big deal Reva is alive so they must have talked off camera. But Reva was too busy squacking about that annoying toothy Marah and blank Shayne to talk about anything else.  It's not quite as weird as Van, who obsessed over Peter, comes back to SF and never mentions him...i.e. "I saw Peter this weekend and he so barely remembers me but he is happy with Bridget and Dylan...")
    • Excellent! The OLTL-GH promo places this and the RH episode (which I assume aired directly before this AMC) as airing during the week of Aug. 20.
    • Thanks! There's never enough early 1980s AMC around.    The only actor I don't recognize is the actress playing Wanda, Mike's agent.
