AMC & OLTL Get Summer Run On OWN

+1 Oprah did not become a billionaire by being stupid. She and her network are in a different position now than they were at the time. I assume this is a huge test to see how things go for perhaps the future. I love the online version of AMC(and do have concerns about sanitizing content even now) but being on TV does make more money and is a better bet for these shows lasting longer. So I am all for it. RC can eat it.

This is beautiful. I am all farklempt- I really do believe PP (incoherent weekly press releases and all) when they say they will try anything & everything to make this successful. And I bet the slightly altered release schedule tied into this decision somehow.

The soaps fans who are mad at Oprah? Umm Oprah didn't have to pick up the soaps because you asked her years ago. Similarly, there is no god-given right to these shows on TV or to watch them for free. PP & Oprah are trying to turn a profit- so was ABC despite some of the FB commenters talking about "ABC giving them to us for free the way it should be". So shut up and stop making soap fans look like loons who can barely spell.

:P He just pi$$ed me off because instead of being glad that this could be a future outlet for all soaps, and could be a home for GH, he has to crap on the moment and subliminally make it about himself. Oprah should screencap his tweet and the second that GH is canceled and PP & OWN pick it up, she wields her power and gets him fired along with showing him the screencap why he's getting the boot.

Makes me angry how some people wont except that PGP didn't sell there shows yet people offered to buy them. ABC Offered to buy EON and AW (once NBC decided to cancel it) and CBS offered to buy ATWT/GL. PGP would be smart to pull an ABC and sell a liscense. It would be pure profit!!

In Oprah's defense, it wouldn't have been a good business move to launch her network with scripted shows of any kind. They're just too expensive. Now, a few years later, she has money to play with, so it makes sense to produce the Tyler Perry shows and to air the soaps.

WHEN?!?!? I can't wait! tongue.png

My octogenarian grandparents who found watching on the computer uncomfortable and inconvenient will surely be on board. I don't know how big the untapped audience is, but there is one out there. Somewhere. This reminds me of my friend's scrunch-faced, "Oprah be like, 'Y'all don't watch OWN?'" jpg.

Besides, you can count on the pressed among us to rewatch each and every episode, all airings, just on gp, let alone to compare and contrast what's been edited for OWN.

THIS IS A MUST! Bring back the family album. Using a reject from a 10 year old, pre HD opening before fading into what essentially looks like a PowerPoint presentation just reeks of amateurism.

And that's just an added, unnecessary expense at this point. When syndicating a program, you want a no-fuss, already complete package that you can just effortlessly plug into a timeslot. They're already going to have to deal with a few bleeps, dubs, and edits in accordance with basic cable's and OWN's standards. Does anyone remember how BET oddly spliced and edited The Wire into weird 90 minute episodes, or more famously, what became of SATC in syndication? Thank God we're not dealing with all of that.

    • But she's a DUPREE and that makes her immune to any and everything!
    • About the only thing that could really get me interested in this show right now would be a "Who Killed Victor?" storyline IF he stayed dead. The writing for him is atrocious! And the lineup of possible suspects would be most of the canvas. Months worth of great story if done well.....of course...not getting done with Griffith.
    • I really hope you’re wrong. Dani Desperate Dupree being right will make her even more insufferable than she’s already been.
    • I know this board has very strong opinions about Scheffer's reign which run the gamut from brilliant to the nadir of the series.  I'm one of the fans. 2001 - 2005 are, imo, the second best years for the series. The first being Marland.  As The World Turns won Daytime Emmy Awards for Best Drama Series in '87 and '91. However, it wasn't until Scheffer came along that it won again...in '01 and '03. Plus it won for Best Writing Team in '01, '02, '04, and '05, an award it had never managed to win before and didn't again. When Scheffer left and Passanante was the main head writer (along with various other co-head writers) the show began to seriously tank. However, it wasn't just the writing. The budget was gone. The sets were made to be smaller or destroyed. There was all that weird hand held camera directing for a while. Scenes that were obviously shot in the hallway where the series was filmed. I think '06 - '10 is a roller coaster. There are some storylines I really enjoyed and some that were eye-rolling. Looking in the rearview mirror though, I can see that the actors, writers, directors, and crew were working their best with what money they had.
    • They are idiots! It seems crazy that Leslie is inserting herself so much into this investigation but everybody is falling into her traps. I find it to be an interesting back and forth and I'm still not completely sure who will win. I have a theory but I'm going to wait for more to develop before I say more. I feel like Haley has been more on the sidelines so I'm enjoying this new desperate streak she appears to be developing. I'm curious how it'll manifest overtime. I also agree with Dani that I am not convinced she's pregnant. I think she's trying to get pregnant but really just see's herself fading into the background and wants attention and validation from Dani and her family.
    • Thanks for sharing; the set, wow. Ten times better than the "penthouse" she lives in now (is that a surprise, though?).
    • I'd be happy to!

I just read the intro and first chapter and I'm already hooked. I know she had a co-author, but I can tell Kim is a firecracker and I'd love to have wine with her and talk sh!t haha. It makes reading the book pretty easy and entertaining. Intro - I had no idea she got a DUI! She shared 3 bottles of wine with a friend at dinner one night in LA, got in her car, was pulled over and thrown in jail overnight.  She admitted it wasn't her first time drinking and driving, but learned a valuable lesson that night. Out of the gate, she's not holding back or hiding anything. Chapter 1 - the announcement that GL was being cancelled. She was driving to Peapack and got a call from Bradley Cole who told her the news. First, that's BS that as one of the faces of GL, you hear the big news from a fellow co-star on your way to work. Granted, the "suits" were traveling to Peapack that day to tell the cast and crew, but still, seems icky. Ironically the news came on April Fools Day. Apparently that was the last day the network could decide whether to cancel or renew, but to Kim's point, couldn't they just pick the day before to avoid the callousness of the 'holiday'. Obviously a sad day in GL history. I thought it was funny, she said the one thing she thought of is "what would Susan Lucci do" in this situation, post-cancellation. And of course she said she'd "find something to hawk on the Home Shopping Network"  You all would know better than me, but part of the title of her book is "seven husbands" and in her intro, she uses Reva's full name: Reva Shayne-Lewis-Lewis-Spaulding-Lewis-Winslow-Cooper-Lewis-Lewis-O'Neill.  However, in the first chapter, she said Bradley Cole was "her 8th (or was it 9th?) husband". Well, Kim, that already contradicts the title of your book and your character's name you touted.
