AMC & OLTL Get Summer Run On OWN

Isn't Oprah allowed to change her mind? My goodness. Plus, this is a better deal for her. She's not incurring any production costs, at least that we know of. If the relationship continues, maybe she'll pump some money into them.

Oprah followed conventional wisdom about those shows at that time. That conventional wisdom just happened to be wrong - as was the aesthetic vision she and Frons had for OWN and ABC, respectively.

I found the way she delivered her message at the time to be condescending and ill-informed, but at the same time I could hardly blame her for not wanting to front all that money herself. This move however, with PP running them, after proven viewership, is a smart business decision. And the fact is that Oprah is good news for soaps, period.

+1 Oprah did not become a billionaire by being stupid. She and her network are in a different position now than they were at the time. I assume this is a huge test to see how things go for perhaps the future. I love the online version of AMC(and do have concerns about sanitizing content even now) but being on TV does make more money and is a better bet for these shows lasting longer. So I am all for it. RC can eat it.

He sounds more than a little bitter. I'm glad OLTL has moved away from the full on camp of his version. Just on that alone, I want this new incarnation to be successful. Both shows, in fact.

After all the back and forth and drama of the last few weeks I feel like pieces have fallen into place. The union stuff got settled quickly and easily, the prudes didn't really win the battle of the swear words and the soaps are in the hands of Agnes Nixon AND a single, black woman over 50, basically the antithesis of everything ABC thought was valuable. Once we get Vee's Prospect Park Uncensored up and running it should be the summer of soaps.

This is beautiful. I am all farklempt- I really do believe PP (incoherent weekly press releases and all) when they say they will try anything & everything to make this successful. And I bet the slightly altered release schedule tied into this decision somehow.

The soaps fans who are mad at Oprah? Umm Oprah didn't have to pick up the soaps because you asked her years ago. Similarly, there is no god-given right to these shows on TV or to watch them for free. PP & Oprah are trying to turn a profit- so was ABC despite some of the FB commenters talking about "ABC giving them to us for free the way it should be". So shut up and stop making soap fans look like loons who can barely spell.

I wanna marry you boo!

:P He just pi$$ed me off because instead of being glad that this could be a future outlet for all soaps, and could be a home for GH, he has to crap on the moment and subliminally make it about himself. Oprah should screencap his tweet and the second that GH is canceled and PP & OWN pick it up, she wields her power and gets him fired along with showing him the screencap why he's getting the boot.

Now the removal of cuss words makes sense. OWN should really getting some boosted ratings if all goes good.

will they? These are old episodes and I figured those into these soaps have already seen them. I don't see then getting big numbers especially since OWN isnt everywhere as it is

OMG Ron, I can't even. Just...nope. Gonna keep my mouth shut.

Did anyone notice they split the airing up, at one and three? Kinda strange. What will air in between them?

ATWT/GL????

Too bad PG is not willing to sell. I'd pay to see old eppies of ATWT/GL!

Makes me angry how some people wont except that PGP didn't sell there shows yet people offered to buy them. ABC Offered to buy EON and AW (once NBC decided to cancel it) and CBS offered to buy ATWT/GL. PGP would be smart to pull an ABC and sell a liscense. It would be pure profit!!

I believe it was a mistake not considering the soaps when she was launching OWN. The network had no vision was a total disaster for the first couple years. Having the passionate soap fanbases and two hit shows could've helped her tremendously. And didn't she say in her statement that soaps were dead and had their time? That was a mistake, even then.

In Oprah's defense, it wouldn't have been a good business move to launch her network with scripted shows of any kind. They're just too expensive. Now, a few years later, she has money to play with, so it makes sense to produce the Tyler Perry shows and to air the soaps.

My mind done already jumped to a splashy cross-promotional "The Return of Erica Kane" sit-down interview on Oprah's Next Chapter.

WHEN?!?!? I can't wait! tongue.png

I hope they'll shoot a new opening for All My Children on OWN. The music is fine, but everything else is kind of blah.

My octogenarian grandparents who found watching on the computer uncomfortable and inconvenient will surely be on board. I don't know how big the untapped audience is, but there is one out there. Somewhere. This reminds me of my friend's scrunch-faced, "Oprah be like, 'Y'all don't watch OWN?'" jpg.

Besides, you can count on the pressed among us to rewatch each and every episode, all airings, just on gp, let alone to compare and contrast what's been edited for OWN.

THIS IS A MUST! Bring back the family album. Using a reject from a 10 year old, pre HD opening before fading into what essentially looks like a PowerPoint presentation just reeks of amateurism.

I want a new opening too but given the fact that they are trying to pull in people who aren't currently watching it's probably best to keep the one they have now so people can learn the characters.

That music is so depressing and dated. People will think Oprah's doing a documentary on the hard times after Lilith Fair.

And that's just an added, unnecessary expense at this point. When syndicating a program, you want a no-fuss, already complete package that you can just effortlessly plug into a timeslot. They're already going to have to deal with a few bleeps, dubs, and edits in accordance with basic cable's and OWN's standards. Does anyone remember how BET oddly spliced and edited The Wire into weird 90 minute episodes, or more famously, what became of SATC in syndication? Thank God we're not dealing with all of that.
