As expected everyone is up in arms and questioning why certain couples are on the list, why certain couples aren't etc.... It's just a list! If you don't agree with it, fine, make your own list! There is no right or wrong with these things. You'll never get a list that everyone agrees on, because we're all biased in favor of our favorite couples.

I don't agree with everything on the list so far, but it could have been worse. Did you see the suggestions WLS got from the readers?! Some of them were just blink.png

Yeah...uh, it's not exactly a representative sampling of soap opera fans. I've never even heard of Bill&Tess from LOL. That's not to say they're not deserving, but any list that has BOTH Luke/Noah and O/Natalia has "fan block voting" written all over it.

Thus B&B has probably got exactly one couple on it. Unless of course, the Tridge fans found out about it before the Bridge fans.

Another Cass & Kathleen fan here -- though unlike Carl, I also liked Cass & Frankie. Not as much as C&K, but still.

My top choices:

Doug & Julie (DOOL)

Mac & Rachel (AW)

Cruz & Eden (SB)

Isn't it more interesting to debate about the list then just say, "We have no opinion"?

As for "Nuke" and "Otalia", I can see why they were on there if the list was supposed to represent diversity. But it tells you just what poor representation gay couples have had on soaps.

Bianca and Maggie will probably on there too to represent the lesbians. I actually don't have a problem with them mentioning gay pairings, there are only like three of them in the 70+ history of soaps anyway. That seems like such a small thing to complain about.

I'm all for debating the list, but it seems a lot of people dismiss it right away just because their personal favorite couple isn't on it. This is not the definitive list. It's the opinion of the people behind the WLS site. But I think they've done a good job so far. They've tried to include couples from different eras, and couples that might be somewhat forgotten now, but who were important once.

As for Luke & Noah, which seems to be a couple most here don't want on the list, I think they do deserve to be there. (But I'm probably biased, since I seem to be one of the few here that actually liked them). But which other couple in the last few years have had the impact on their show (and maybe somewhat on daytime as a whole) that they had. Sure, their stories became worse all the time, and their screentime was almost non-existant at times, but no-one can deny that they were hugely popular in the beginning, and they can most certainly take some of the credit for the ratings boost that ATWT got during the fall and winter of 2007-08 when the show went from being #6 in the ratings to #3. And without the popularity of Luke & Noah we might not have had Olivia & Natalia or Kyle & Oliver.

The funny thing is I did sort of like Noah and Luke. I just don't think they should be in the top 50. This is for all soaps, for 60 years. I can appreciate that they were important to ATWT's last years, and that they were the most popular gay couple on US daytime television. But I don't think they should be the top 50.

My issue with the list is more who is on there than who isn't, but I'm definitely not dismissing the list. I agree with some of the choices. I appreciate the effort to include older couples. If Daytime Confidential had done this list, Rex and Gigi would be in the top 5. I may complain about some results but that's only because I care enough to complain.

IA. I dont get why people get all up in arms about this stuff. Any list is bound to be biased and Im sure no one here could create something that everyone would approve of

Well if We Love Soaps wants to publish a list on the top 50 supercouples of all time, then they have to expect some criticism. If they don't expect it, they certainly can't expect raves for it either. I think they've left off two very popular supercouples and I think some couples should be ranked higher. If We Love Soaps can't deal with it, then they shouldn't publish the list.

I agree. This has all been mild. It's just debate, really. I appreciate what WLS does, and commenting on their poll is a part of that.

If they didn't want folks talking or debating about their top 50 they never would have published one. It's silly to me to think they wouldn't expect fans to debate over it and draw attention to it.

    • I realize I harp on this, but I think he spending is relevant.  She's not just buying new wigs. She's building a mansion, she's funding a sports complex, she's paying for operations for people she doesn't know, she's caring for Peaches, she's buying apartments. We saw ?her get ONE check for ONE million dollars. That's it. I may be wrong, but I thought they said she'd get a payment every 6 months. Regardless, she could not rule the roost on $1M, and the show is not doing a good job there. Pretending that doesn't matter? I can't do that.  All they had to do was add a couple lines about payouts and payments.  In other news, I would love to know just how much Anita was putting into that trust as well as what investment got her what has to be an incredible return.

    • I'm honestly surprised Nikki and Victor have not divorced yet... maybe their brief opening of the marriage did something for them.

    • It reminded me of what the Pollocks got away with all the time on THE DOCTORS: long ass flashbacks that don't really add anything to the scene except time.  Because, if you remove the flashback, what's left?  Monica finishes packing Alan's suitcase.  The end. Oh, well.  At least I got to see a young Patricia Elliott (ex-Renee, OLTL) in that Aim toothpaste commercial (not to mention, a shirtless James O'Sullivan (ex-Jeff, AMC; ex-Pete, OLTL; ex-Jerry, SOMERSET) in the commercial for One-a-Day vitamins, lol).
    • Well, I can't help but think it would've been written different with CB still there
    • I could've sworn FV let other people direct either here or at OLTL. I may be wrong. IIRC Kimberly is now very active directing multi-cam/sitcom work. I'd forgotten she even did Netflix's One Day at a Time.
    • IIRC MVJ said the million was just the first piece of what Leslie got or was already owed, something they did make explicit in dialogue but not too explicit. Still, I am past worrying about it. I do think they want 30-yo elder millennial Peaches in her Sophia Petrillo wig to be a point of pathos for Leslie. In theory I am fine with that, and don't dislike Peaches despite the jarring physical disconnect and need for a recast lol. But I do think they do a lot of B&B-style whizzing from Point A to Point C with Leslie on this kind of stuff - in one scene she is raising hell, in the next she is weeping over Peaches. There's very little transition to that sometimes that allows for the nuance, and that can be done much better and they can go much deeper with Leslie (and most characters). The newer/younger audience for the show may have less issue with this kind of quick change than we do.

Thank you.   That was part of my reasoning as well. I think about the days of Kevin, Joey, and Jessica on OLTL or Lucky/Liz/Nik/Sarah/Emily on GH or the Last Blast Kids on DAYS or the Glow by Jabot kids, and it takes me back. Sure I started soaps due to the older cast with their divas, but I do like to see people around my age back then, too. Great memories.   So I love a good relatable teen tale. Bullying. Hormones for the Bad Boy. College choices and internal conflict.
    • Thank you for the information.  I did listen to the entire interview with Miss Roux -- way back when it was first released.  But I am unable to recall her mentioning Connie Ford, and don't have time nor effort to listen to the entire thing again, just for one small morsel. So again, thanks for responding.    I do recall Roux sounded extremely fragile and perhaps a bit wounded in the interview. I almost felt guilty for even listening to it.  So perhaps that has some influence on my reluctance to listen to it again.  She seemed troubled, to say the least.
    • Boxer-briefs, huh?   Well...called it on Cane/Giggly Heffa hooking up so not surprised.
    • Do you have Addie’s first air date??
