Most miscast soap roles

This may get locked or get no replies, I don't know, it's probably gone over old ground, but anyway...

Which soap roles do you think had potential but were very poorly miscast? I don't necessarily mean a bad actor, but also an actor who just didn't suit the role.

This can be a new character or a recast.

OLTL's Sarah Buchanan (this includes Flash as well). I think both actresses were miscast, but I also think the writers failed with the character's development. I always felt the lone daughter of Tina Lord should have been a vixen causing trouble in Llanview just like her mother. But maybe be less of a dingbat.

DAYS' Charity Rahmer. 'Nuff said.

thats like 90% of the Y&R additions of the last 2 years laugh.png

AMC's Randi. Denise Vasi is way too beautiful and pretty to be playing hard hooker from the streets. The role was supposed to be trashier and tougher than what she was able to bring and I always felt she came across more glamorous. She looked more like a high priced escort and not one sleazing it up at the Pine Cone Motel. I thought she was wrong fromthe getgo and this doesnt even get into her acting ability

I think a Marcy Rylan type would have been better for Sarah. Oh and her name was Sarah Roberts. Sarah Buchanan was Bo's late wife

Christel Khalil as Lily on Y&R. When she first came on we were suppose to believe Dru was unable to handle her. Yet she was a complete ditz and please one couldn’t be raised by Dru, and be that much of a pain in the ass. Dru would’ve killed her.

You want a role that didn't work with either casting? I'd have go with Eden on GL. Deborah Zoe was just a little bit better than her predecessor Teresa Hill(who had an affair with Conboy allegedly) but both were miscast.

See also Jade on ATWT, the 2nd and 3rd Lucy's on ATWT.

Frank Ryan on Ryan's Hope - the first Frank was hideously awful, too old for the role, wooden and staring at cue cards. The second Frank, Andrew Robinson, was a character actor in a leading man's role. And they worked for like 5 months to get him to accept the role. Odd.

This is going back even longer but I never liked Kate Jackson as Daphne on Dark Shadows. That was such an ingenue role and she was never an ingenue. She just seemed ill at ease.

New Characters:

Siobhan McKenna (GH): Could have been a decent character, but the actress was dull and lifeless.

Stacy Morasco (OLTL): I personally loved Crystal Hunt's portrayal, but I know most didn't. The reason I say this was a miscast is because she already had her fair share of haters from her GL days, which means she didn't necessarily start on the best terms. Had a more accepted actress played the part, the character may have been received differently.

Lulu Spencer (GH): I'm counting this as an original actress portrayal because JMB is the only one to play Lulu as an adult/character of importance. She did well as a teenager with the Dillon/Georgie stuff, but is now completely lifeless and brings the character of Lulu down.

Ethan Lovett (GH): I do like Nathan Parsons a lot. However, I don't get a wide range from him. He's good at playing the con/badboy, but thus far I haven't seen a lot of versatility out of him. I liked his relationship with Maya a LOT, but even that was mostly based on the fact that he was a con-artist child. I think a character like Ethan needs a portrayer who can do all areas.

Marissa Chandler (AMC): Brittany Allen. Enough Said. Even though she seems like a sweetie.

Aubrey Karr (OLTL): I like Terri Conn, but didn't think she fit the role. She would have been better as a Sarah recast.

Kyle Abbott (Y&R: I think the kid playing him is a good actor, but the character needed to at LEAST be an older teen/young adult. Having him be 11 years old while Abby is in her 20s? It's very distracting for anyone who knows the history behind the two of them.

Recast Characters:

Heather (Y&R): Eden Reigel should have never gotten this job. Vail Bloom was Heather.

Steve Webber (GH): Scott Reeves is all kinds of horrible in this role. Stiff, wooden, bored, and dull. Nothing like the Steven we used to know.

Malcolm Winters (Y&R): Do I even need to say anything?

Ashley Abbott (Sherri Shatuck incarnation) (Y&R): I'm sorry. I did not buy her Ashley at ALL.

Carly Jax (Laura Wright) (GH): All kinds of miscast.

Colleen Carlton (Y&R): I liked Tammin. I did. But she was an unnecessary recast, because Adrianna Leon was just as good in the role as Lyndsy had been. Tammin didn't fit that well. She was a good actress, but her look/style/acting style just didn't mesh with the image/persona of Colleen.

DAYS: Tamara Braun as Taylor. She is all shades of wrong for the role. Taylor was supposed to be one of thos annoyingly goody goodies that acted like the pillar of morality. Well TB's take on that is even smugger and sanctimonious than you can imagine. She cant do good and sweet well and the character went from simply being boring to an outright mess when she took it over

All My Children: Amanda Baker as Babe Carey. She was like a lobotomized version of Alexa Havins' Babe, everything was so much duller with her in the role and she wasn't as vibrant nor as interesting as Alexa was. It would have made more sense for them to let Babe stay dead during the Satin Slayer storyline then to recast her with Baker in the role.
