I loved Shelly Burch and Delila, especially in the beginning when the character had a purpose. She did leave from November 1987 to June 1988. Here are two 8X10 pictures that she generously sent to me when I wrote to her way back when. She was and is a beautiful woman!

The show missed a major opportunity with Max and Gabrielle when she returned in 2001. Back in their heyday, the characters were written with a "I hate you but can't live without you" kind of passion. But when Gab came back in 2001, it was more like they just had a "I hate you" kind of passion. The redux fizzled miserably (IMO) though it had such great potential! I wonder if anything had changed between James and Fiona by that time, because the chemistry just wasn't there. Or maybe it was the writing that lacked.

You're welcome! Funny (or not so funny) story about Shelly Burch......

In 1997, Soap Opera Digest reported that Ms. Burch had been brainwashed and joined a cult and was feared dead. I kid you not! There were no quotes from any authorities or former cast mates. Yet, I was still worried, as I thought Ms. Burch to be a lovely and kind woman based on interviews she did. Well, in 1999, I was fortunate enough to attend the OLTL Fan Club event, and I asked Mr. Bob Woods directly about Ms. Burch. He shook his head in disgust and said that he too had read that story, but was happy to report that Ms. Burch was alive and well and had never joined a cult. He confirmed that she IS a nice and warm woman, and thanked me for asking about her. If you are interested in seeing for yourself that she is indeed still living her one life to live, check out her website. The woman still looks amazing! http://shellyburch.org/gallery.php

In the OLTL book, it says Gabby came to town because Delila had taken credit for her designs. I thought she was trying to get them back. Oh well, I still love her and Fiona smile.png.

I actually thought they still had chemistry, particularly when they became friends again in 2003. I really felt that could have had a more mature, lasting relationship at that point, particularly if they had been written off together, They were never closer friends than they were then--I really thought Max was in love with her all over again--there was something about Jim's acting in their scenes that year that indicated that to me--but backed off because of Bo.

And THANK YOU so much for those pictures! wub.png

    • Roger's return storyline may have been silly but Roger's return was what lead to GL's last golden era.  It was the combination of Roger's return and Robert Calhoun becoming EP that got GL to finally hit it's stride after some really bad years. It will always disappoint me that the ratings during Robert Calhoun's run didn't reflect the quality of the show.
    • He also gave some of the best episodes, like the episodes surrounding Doug's death. The problem with Days was that Ron had a horrible vision from he top. I don't feel the same for MVJ and nothing that has happened in all these months suggests she doesn't have a handle on the show. Now if it becomes an issue I'll acknowledge it, but I'm not seeing it so far.
    • Jean Hackney was awful and that lead to Ben's exit story which sucked. I liked Ben/Val together. Val's love for Ben was that of a grown woman moving on with her life and Ben's love for Val made him willingly decide to raise another man's children as his own.
    • It wasn't just a GL thing, it was an 80s thing. Opulent party scenes on soaps were very big back then. Even in regular episodes where people are just going to dinner they're dressed up like they're going to see royalty.
    • Just started the May 27 episode and first thing I see is that Willow got an ugly haircut since hte last time i watched   I dont have the context for how everthing went down but I know its all Lulu's fault which make her a bish for what she did to Gio
    • I'm pretty sure he was. But point taken. GL really had a thing for masked and costumed balls/parties in the '80's. Everyone looks fabulous, but those poor costume designers.
    • Still here ^^ Come on Prime Video, it's due to bring it back!
    • Got through the eighth season, and it was... painful.

    • I agree 100% with both you and Mitch64.  Soaps have been going further and further off-course since 1981. TPTB just don't have a fundamental understanding of what makes soap fans so loyal. I'd love to be on a writing team with both of you.  Maybe we could put together a real soap opera, and show people what its all about...
    • They weren't in town, but Fletcher worked at the paper (and we saw anniversary Journal headlines for the 50th, although I don't remember if Roger was one of them), and I'd think Alex would have at least heard of him due to the damage he did to Spaulding only a few years before her return to the fold. I know I have to remember it's not real life, of course.
