April 14, 201115 yr Member What can I say guys? I think I'm officially done with soaps today, I've lost confidence in the people who make decisions on these soaps' future. I know the remaining three will be gone in the coming years. I loved watching GH lately but I'm done with GH also. I might've just watched SoapNet for the final time since they've only got 8 more months to go until their done. I still can't believe they canceled two popular soaps on the same day. Even though these shows might've not gotten the viewership they gotten in their heyday back in the 70s and 80s people still loved these shows whether they were watching them or not. It's amazing though Univision got 9.7 million viewers with one of its telenovelas this past week and it got me thinking how American soaps have been neglected and soaps in the rest of the world are still doing just fine. Even soaps on the webs are pulling in huge numbers. I hope soaps can resurface back one day but now I'm only hoping. Again I'm done with soaps today this is it for me I can't take it anymore. That was Eva Luna. It was a great soap opera. I watched the finale and loved it. They don't air here LOL though I prob will watch the UK soaps that do more regularly now... Or we'll see. At this point I just don't have the heart. Eric, you cant catch them on youtube?? Or on the Univision website??
April 14, 201115 yr Member And, I'm not going to another soap either. Unless, RS, MEK, or HBS go over to Y&R. They're better off not on Y&R.
April 14, 201115 yr Member WOW! Incredible interview with Brian Frons! http://www.deadline.com/2011/04/abc-daytime-chief-on-why-amc-oltl-were-axed-general-hospital-katie-couric/ He says this was a year in the making and that there were talks of combining both shows! Frons: don't expect to see erica kane on gh, I can only see her in pine valley(something to that effect). Thats code for we can't afford her on gh and don't even think about.
April 14, 201115 yr Member George Stephanopoulos on ABC News: "Coming up, the TV news that has millions of women posting memories online." Or something like that. "Women." Sums it all the f!ck up exactly why these shows are going off the air. Actually if they still wrote for women they might still be fairly successful. I think the bizarre and often virulent misogyny of the last 15 years chased away more viewers than OJ or cable or the idea that women only worked after 1995 ever could.
April 14, 201115 yr Member From the deadline article: As for the only remaining ABC daytime drama, General Hospital, it is safe "for the time being," Frons said, adding, "We feel very positive about its place on the schedule." GH ranks No. 2 in daytime in the key women 18-49 demographic, while AMC and OLTL both trail the competition. However, don't expect Susan Lucci's trademark character Erica Kane to check into GH. "It's hard to envision Erica anywhere else but Pine Valley," Frons said. He added that he had spoken with Agnes Nixon, creator of both AMC and OLTL, who is now "focused on providing emotional, satisfying ending" to the shows.
April 14, 201115 yr Member I love it when unexpected soap fans come out of the woodwork. Chris Jericho has excellent taste. Of all the soap couples I ever saw, Greg and Jenny towers above them all. They were the perfect soap couple.
April 14, 201115 yr Member Haven't posted in a while, but I've been keeping up with all the rumors and developments. Even though I expected it deep down, this still hurts so much. I'll miss both shows, mainly AMC, terribly. Hopefully they'll get the quality endings that they deserve.
April 14, 201115 yr Member Yep. STUFFITUPAGUS. And, I'm not going to another soap either. Unless, RS, MEK, or HBS go over to Y&R. I forgot HBS will be without a job. She is a great actress. Maybe she and CZP can do a reality show...lol......meow......lol
April 14, 201115 yr Member That was Eva Luna. It was a great soap opera. I watched the finale and loved it. Yeah that was the name of it, I've watched telenovelas in the past but the only problem was I needed an English button but they never made one like they did with SAP. LOL! I wish those soaps were presented in English and I wish those ones produced overseas from countries like England and Australia would be syndicated here. I would start moving my soap viewing to those kind of soaps and abandon the American ones completely.

What's sad for fans of OLTL is when he says the decision to cancel both shows only came within the past week (he says they had already decided to ditch one show weeks ago)...no doubt at that meeting with Anne Sweeney. Since OLTL is the one getting the extra four months on the air, it was clearly the one that was going to be spared until at least September 2012 if they had gone ahead and only canceled one of the shows.
