Members DaytimeFan
I think that's a fair observation and I think Bill Bell found that inspiration again with Jess Walton. He wrote her to two Emmys (including the show's first win for Lead Actress) and played to her ferocious strengths.
Members YRfan23
I totally forgot I was sent this episode not too long ago! January 22, 1986, which is also dubbed on the German playlist on here, but here it is in English! Members Darn
I have questions...is Traci supposed to be a teenager here? She looks 30. Victor and Ashley are just openly having an affair? Kissing in the lab? Happily giggling? Was Ashley torn about this at all? Either of them? Who is Andy's girlfriend? Who is the bald black guy? 3 black guys on Y&R? And they're not related? They can barely handle 3 black people at a time now. I'm shook. I miss when Y&R had friend groups. Are there even friends on the show anymore? Maybe there are now, I haven't watched in some time. Kay was such a miserable old crone. It's a staple of daytime but the fact that she took time out of her day just to antagonize Jill makes her look so pathetic. She didn't even have an excuse, she just went there to spar, it's hilarious.
Members YRfan23
I think Traci,Lauren,Danny, Brad etc...were all in the same age group around this time, probably just out of college so maybe 22-24 years old? Beth Maitland was 27-28 years old here though, and I don't necessarily think the 80's hairstyle helps, LOL Farren is Andy's girlfriend, and the bald black guy is Jazz .
Members will81
I think Traci should have been about 20ish by this time. Pretty sure she was already going to University and in 1987 she finished her final year Ashley was torn here and there, especially when Nikki told Ashley about the Wicked Witch Ashley and Victoria asked her not to take her daddy away Faren is Andy's girlfriend and the bald guy is Jazz Jackson. Tyrone's brother who is in the blazer, the other guy is Nathan, better known as Olivia's husband, haha
Members koos
It's mostly just people openly insulting each other in public.
Members Khan
TPTB really need to get it through their heads that soaps aren't just about good-looking people insulting and blackmailing each other 24/7.

Members FrenchFan
I wondered where to post this. I tried to make a list of contract changes at "The Young & The Restless" since 1982. I mostly use closing credits, but also articles I could find. There might be a few mistakes but I did my best to be as accurate as possible. If you want to help me correct some discrepancies, you are more than welcome. Hope it will interest you guys. Members Darn
I've been watching Y&R episodes from 85, the fallout from John finding out about Jill and Jack's night together. An episode of AMC from 85 was also posted in their thread today. And the production values are like night and day. Y&R looks and feels so lush, with the sweeping camera angles, the close-ups, the deliberated nuanced dialogue, whereas AMC (which is the soap I grew up on so it holds my heart) looks like an 80s sitcom. Y&R was just on another level, sure the show doesn't feel as homey or relatable or funny as other soaps of its day but it's not supposed to be. It's a novel for television, every moment has purpose. It's just so pretty.
Members DaytimeFan
Absolutely. Y&R was always a cut above visually. They spent an enormous amount of money on the sets and it showed. I'll leave it to the Jeanne to explain how Y&R elevated daytime: Please register in order to view this content Edited April 21, 2020 by DaytimeFan
Webmaster Errol Posted April 21, 2020 Webmaster Share Posted April 21, 2020 Thank you for posting this. What a thrill it was to hear Jeanne talk so fondly of the the show, the details, Lee Phillip Bell and how both helped elevate the genre. I've only been in the same room with Jeanne a few times in my lifetime, but I always knew when I saw her I was standing next to a legend. I said to someone recently that they are doing the work of the soap gods, and I dare say that Jeanne is up there in heaven representing as one of said gods.
Members All My Shadows
Her Stories touches a lot on the stylistic changes in daytime throughout the 1960s and 1970s. One of the major points made is that shows like GH, DAYS, and Y&R could experiment with bigger sets and more cinematic camera work due their benefit of being based in California. The New York soaps were produced in much smaller studios that had much less room for bigger and/or deeper sets. It's why Agnes's shows initially stood out because of their subject matter.
Members Aback
There's a lot of talk about the show not going too far in the past just to make sure the viewers see familiar faces but I wonder: does the show really have that many new viewers? I tend to think most viewers have been watching the show for the longest time and even new viewers (I myself started in 2000) somehow managed to catch up with the past via Youtube. Soap operas are all about nostalgia so I don't really see the need to keep the reruns *that* contemporary.
Members DaytimeFan
You're most welcome. Jeanne's entire Archive of American Television Interview is excellent and it's three hours long. Jeanne, unlike some interviewees, is totally candid and loves to expand on topics, dish, and have an opinion. https://interviews.televisionacademy.com/interviews/jeanne-cooper
