More cast info, this time for Terry Lester. First article is from Thursday Jul 24, 1980. States Lester started as Jack on Tue, so his start date was Jul 22, 1980

The second states his end date as Sep 1, 1989, and Lester's start on SB as Sep 25, 1989

"Dwindling?" Really? I know he was upset over Bell's nepotism with trying to make Cricket happen,  but was Jack really starving for screentime as character?

From what I've seen of Lester as Mason, it didn't seem like that role was the best fit for him..

I wonder how he felt when Bergman joined and started winning Emmy's for the role he had originated...

It would be interesting to see some episode counts from 1989, to find out whether or not Terry Lester's role was really "dwindling" or whether he maybe just felt that way about it.  (My feeling is that there was probably some justification to his grievances.   The "real Jill" had departed in 1987, and the "real Ashley" in 1988.   While the recasts for Jill and Ashley got their footing on the show, I think the Abbotts probably DID take a backseat to Cricket, Nina, Phillip, and Danny to a larger extent than previously. If I remember right, 1989 was also the year that Phillip III died, which propelled Cricket even further to the forefront.)

I just always assumed it was money.  But, I always assume it is about money.

Marcy Walker was on the verge of leaving for at least two years before she bit the bullet, and she was due for a pregnancy leave that year.

SB was in a hiring frenzy I would bet they paid more.

One year later, when someone in SB production failed to reply to his agent's call about renewing his contract, he left without notice, and Gordon Thompson, his replacement, said that they had to pay him a big salary because they were in the lurch.

I think Lester hadn't been happy for a while. That's why he left in 1985 to do a tv movie. I think it was a movie of the week that had the potential to be turned into a series called Blade in Hong Kong. He was off Y&R for about six months, he definitely wasn't starved for story back then.

I am guessing it was a multitude of things, but I feel Lester would have quit regardless of if he had story, I think he was just over it.

Here are a couple of articles on Eileen's arrival and departure. No concrete first air date, that article comes from Jun 27, 1982.

The second article lists her last day as Fri Dec 2, 1988 with Brenda taking over Mon Dec 5, 1988

Also notice Marguerite Ray was added in June 1982, probably around the same time as Eileen

Traci is first mentioned in synopsis for Jun 14 - 18, 1982

John’s other daughter, Traci, fretted about her battle with the bulge.

So Traci came on the week after Ashley. I am guessing Mamie was also introduced around this time as well

Yeah, only a few days lapsed between the introduction of Ashley and the subsequent introduction of Traci.   If I remember right (and it's only been 37 years ago, lol), seems like we saw John Abbott pop into Ashley's sorority house for a visit and let her know he'd be in attendance at her college graduation that evening.   A few days later, we saw John pop into the boarding school where Traci was matriculating and tell her that he'd be in attendance for Traci's high school graduation that evening.  Both girls went home to Genoa City following their graduations, because their older brother Jack was about to marry Patty Williams, and they were participating in the wedding.  Of course Ashley stayed in town and went to work at Jabot under the name Suzanne Ashley. All summer, we were told that Traci was only in town temporarily and would be "going away to college" in the fall.  But when fall rolled around, Traci decided to enroll in GCU, because she'd made friends with Danny Romalotti, had reconnected with her old friend from boarding school Angela Laurence, and was enjoying spending time with her family rather than being constantly *away* at school.

    • I don't expect Lois to be the same person she was 25 years ago, but she's definitely lost a lot of what made Lois unique.  It's clear the show doesn't know how to write for her, and the sole purpose of Lois is to hide this Gio secret.  It's a shame she doesn't interact with more of the canvas.  It's a waste of Rena's talents. I like Brook Kerr most of the time.  She can be hit or miss.  I totally get what you are saying about her line readings too.  I honestly think the character really suffers being stuck in the Curtis pairing.  She's much better than Tanisha Harper's Jordan lol.
    • Friday and yesterday's episode is what daytime television should be. The other shows airing could take a page from yesterday's show.  I loved the rage, hurt and anger Nicole unleashed on Ted.  Daphnee should be up for an Emmy nom for these scenes.  It broke my heart to see how Dana had locked Eva out.  I do feel sorry for Eva.    I am still bumfuzzled as to why Leslie/Dana went to the DuPree's and asked them to accept Kat UNLESS Eva is really Kat's twin (and really Nicole and Ted's daughter that maybe they though they lost or an embryo Dana/Leslie stole??) I loved how Anita and Vernon both shot her down.    Ohhh and let me just say Friday and yesterday was the MOST fire I have seen Martin have since the show started.  Maybe Brandon Clayborn is coming into his own with the role finally.
    • You've been seeing him all along. You just didn't know it was him, I guess.

    • Where to for Dana? She's pissed off the Duprees (most of the cast), alienated her daughter and will she be welcomed by the Have Nots at the diner? Maybe she can befriend Ashley and Derek and liven up their story.
    • Melissa Ordway announced she was moved to recurring back in November but is still credited with the contract cast members.
    • I think of Evan as a smarmy bast*rd. Maybe you'll like that description. You certainly have him pegged correctly since he is just a soldier following "Admiral" Iris's marching orders.
    • So far the only interest I've seen from Evan to Amanda has been listening to Iris's orders to go and seduce her.  So far he hasn't been successful... but who knows. Amanda is unbearable at times. Entitled, spoiled... idiotic. Iris... so blatantly manipulating her and Amanda takes the bait. But I guess... when she gets in trouble... she'll have a chance to learn. That's what makes these shows so interesting.    Oh, no, don't worry. You haven't ruined a thing. Evan has not been on my radar that much... he was not one of the characters I was caring particularly... so nothing much has been changed for me. I don't think he has the stuff to ruin Rachel's life. He's just a pretty guy that can follow orders. Iris on the other hand... is dangerous.

P.S Maybe Evan will surprise me. Who knows.
    • The show has gone back to 10/10 entertainment! I'm glad that I was right in feeling that what were experiencing were growing pains. I'm sure they are not over yet, but I'll know that we always comeback to quality drama. I think it's going to be a hell of ride (in a good way) from this moment on. BTG has that magic that not a lot of shows have. I'll update more... when I'm done catching up.
    • So very glad to hear this. Yesterday I suddenly thought; OMG, what about spoilers, have I just  ruined things for Maxim in getting carried away with interest in Evan, who was so well-written & well-acted. BTW, your fan review of this episode was a sight for eyes that had not seen one of these for a little bit too long, LOL!!!  Mitch is also fascinating to me but in his case it's because he was all in with Janice & her nefarious plan & then he did this turnabout we've mentioned & he basically got off scot-free.
    • It does seem cheap and lazy for this show to have just one family. Passions was heavily criticized but it was nicely structured with a total of four families.
