FOR Paul Picerni, the difference between working in ABCTVs "The Young Marrieds" and "The Untouchables" is day and night. Trading Lee Hobson's war on gangsterdom for the mien of the dignified Dr. Dan Garrett ounded drab at first, admits the actor. "However, I soon discovered that there is another kind of excitement in playing a continuing role In a daytime serial," he said. "The pressure is greater than hat of a filmed show . . . working in consecutive segments and keeping up with memorizing lines. One week I worked In seven shows. That was rough. We usually finish the runthrough rehearsal for the following day's show around 7:30 p.m. I was staying up until two with my wife cueing me lines, then back to the studio at 8:15 the next morning."
PICERNI, like his TV alter ego, Dr. Garrett, Is a pillar of the community. He's the mayor i of Tarzana (an honorary job), where he lives with his wife Marie, their eight children and the family's horses; vice president of the annual Motion Picture and Television Industry Catholic Communion Breakfast organization and an unstinting benefit performer.
