July 13, 201015 yr Member So on the 10th of Aug..all the ABC soaps will be pre-empted for 3 hour Brenda block?
July 13, 201015 yr Author Member It's starting folks. Brenda Barrett week begins Week of Aug 9. http://abcmedianet.c...px?id=071310_01 that is just....wow
July 13, 201015 yr Member that is just....wow Will Genie Francis get the same treatment if she returns? I'm so glad they didn't do anything like this for The Real Greenlee. Edited July 13, 201015 yr by Jonathan
July 13, 201015 yr Member I can roll with this. I'll be watching the 90s episodes for the other storylines featured in the episodes. The 1996 ep features Sarah Brown's Carly, so I'm surprised they're rolling that one out. As much as I want them to do something similar with AMC and OLTL, I have a feeling that they're the only reason why they're doing it now is because it's *gasp* Vanessa Marcil!! *gasp* Edited July 13, 201015 yr by All My Shadows
July 13, 201015 yr Member I can roll with this. I'll be watching the 90s episodes for the other storylines featured in the episodes. ITA - I don't get the neagtive feedback: they're bascially doing what we always wanted - give us a classic episodes and these are classic episodes. It suits the prupose to promote Brenda's return and saves the soaps money by taking a day off... EDIT: only dowside; only GH would get such a treatment. AMC or OLTL - not so much. July 14, 201015 yr Member Daytime Confidential has updated this story. Seems ABC is playing hardball with the union. The waiver would allow ABC to avoid spending money to renegotiate individual contracts. Multiple sources have confirmed to Daytime Confidential.com that ABC Daytime has approached the Writers Guild of America (WGA) requesting a special waiver allowing them to cut up to 20 scripted episodes a year from each of their three soap operas— All My Children, One Life to Live and General Hospital— to be replaced with classic episodes. This waiver would allow the Mouse House to disregard guarantees already promised writers as a part of their current, respective contracts. "ABC is basically saying, if you don't give us the waiver, we'll have no choice but to start firing writers on each show," says one source. Edited July 14, 201015 yr by Ann_SS
July 14, 201015 yr Member Will Genie Francis get the same treatment if she returns? Not with Frons around, they can barely be bothered to ask her back I'm so glad they didn't do anything like this for The Real Greenlee. I never thought I'd say this, but this is a million times WORSE than the Real Greenlee stupidity. At least they didn't disrupt programming for that
July 14, 201015 yr Member 20 episodes per their 3 soaps is 60 episodes which is about 3 months. Calling it next summer, each soap will go on hiatus for a month and ABC will air Brenda: The Lost Years
July 14, 201015 yr Member "ABC is basically saying, if you don't give us the waiver, we'll have no choice but to start firing writers on each show," says one source. We should be so lucky.
July 14, 201015 yr Member I think I might like this, if it means we'll get more better paced episodes/stories and more cliffhangers, better than having to wait until Feb, May or Nov for stories to reach their peak, and even then the writers still don't deliver. Nobody can deny that the amount of episodes we get these days from the ABC soaps, most are used as filler.
July 14, 201015 yr Member This should be the biggest risk Frons should be allowed to take with ABC Daytime right now...
July 14, 201015 yr Author Member http://www.soapopera...m/news/breaking More Events Planned For ABC Daytime The upcoming SOAPnet tribute to Brenda is just the start of ABC Daytime's plans to have more encore episodes in their network lineup. A spokesperson for ABC Daytime/SOAPnet explains, "Fans have often expressed the desire to see their favorite episodes of our soaps… Throughout the year, ABC Daytime will occasionally encore episodes that will enhance current story and give fans the opportunity to see episodes they really loved and have wanted to see again."
July 14, 201015 yr Member Fans have often expressed the desire to see their favorite episodes of our soaps I'm sure fans have demanded to see Sonny shoot Dante...again and again and again and again.
July 14, 201015 yr Member We should be so lucky. Uh no, we should NOT be so lucky. This would affect scriptwriters WAY more than it would the top honchos. Some of those scriptwriters deserve to be fired, but it definitely wouldn't be the Rebecca Taylor's of the bunch that would be cut. I'm sure fans have demanded to see Sonny shoot Dante...again and again and again and again. MIGOD SONNY! YOU JUST SHOT YOUR OWN SON!
