Folks, there's no other way around it: nationalism has swept our country; and like any common cold or flu (or reboot/revival craze), we're just gonna have to ride it out. (As it is, there's little our generation could have done to fix the messes of the past two years. Even if the Dems had made bigger inroads tonight, it still would've been up to our kids and grandkids to figure out how to get us back to where we were before Trump.) But, at least the Dems have regained control of the House, putting (as others have said upthread) an effective check and balance against Trump and the GOP. It might not be the "blue wave" many had dreamed of, but it's something. Edited November 7, 20187 yr by Khan
November 7, 20187 yr Member I think Stacy Abrams is the race I'm saddest about. Injustice truly prevailed in Georgia. Steve King is disgusting. Kara Eastman came pretty close for Nebraska all things considered, but I never really believed she could do it.

Now, more than ever, I'm pulling for Linda Bloodworth-Thomason and her "Designing Women" reboot/revival. You KNOW she's gonna have a thing or two to say about this [!@#$%^&*].

She's not my rep but is an AMAZING candidate and I will tell you if democrats can put up candidates like her the future is positive. 32 years old and a future star IMO And Illinois did its job as has Iowa, both flipping 2 congressional districts.

November 7, 20187 yr Member Dana Rohrbacher has been voted OUT. Sanford (remember him), his seat went to a Democrat. Dem Joe Cunningham turns Sanford open seat blue in South Carolina American electoral machine needs to tighten up. Things like this make the U.S. look like a banana republic. Sadly, this is not an 'only in Nevada' scenario. There are several states where I could see this happening. Looks like Brothel owner Dennis Hof, who died, is going to win an assembly seat. Only in Nevada pic.twitter.com/J17CYPKwpZ — Howard Stutz (@howardstutz) November 7, 2018 I don't know what to say about some of these governors races that are still in limbo, particularly the Georgia governor's race where statistically, it's still 'too close to call'. I guess one way to look at it is that, with all of the skullduggery and out and out tricks, Stacey Abrams has still managed to keep the race as close as it is. November 7, 20187 yr Member So some victories. You don’t win them all. Maine elected their first female Governor leading to Medicaid expansion implementation, same as Wisconsin if Tony Evers victory holds up(last Walker election was challenged). One thing democrats have done right is thru ballot intitiative where now giving convicted felons voting rights in Florida has also been a big win. I’m disappointed with some loses like everyone and yes am worried about what the Democratic House does, but right now there has been some real positive success. A big night for Medicaid expansion in the midwest and mountain west: 1. Expansion ballot initiatives passed in Utah, Idaho and Nebraska. (I am so proud of my colleagues and our partners!) 2. Pro-expansion Governors elected in Wisconsin, and Kansas. Also, Maine will implement — Eliot Fishman (@FishmanEliot) November 7, 2018 BREAKING: Amendment 4 in Florida has just PASSED! YES! YES! YES! 1.4 million former felons who had been banned from voting for life will all now be granted back their voting rights. A HUGE and hard fought victory. One of the most important of our lifetime. — Shaun King (@shaunking) November 7, 2018 Here is our 2 am roundup: 7 Chambers Flipped blue: CO Senate MN House NH House NH Senate ME Senate NY Senate WA Senate (Nov 2017) New supermajorities: OR Senate OR House Broken supermajorities: NC Senate NC House MI Senate PA Senate — Jessica Post (@JessicaPost) November 7, 2018 Despiite losses in a Florida and maybe Georgia, Democrats pick up 7 governorships. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/elections/2018/11/06/midterm-elections-governors-gillum-desantis-abrams-kemp/1810897002/ Edited November 7, 20187 yr by JaneAusten
November 7, 20187 yr Member I'm happy that the Democrats had a successful election although I have to admit I had hoped for even more. I guess it's hard for a foreigner to completely understand the mindset of the American voters, but then again I'm baffled that so many people here voted for a xenophobic and homophobic party with neo-nazi roots. So maybe it's me who's out of touch with what people want.
