I think the difference with Pence is Trump's cult members, didn't vote for Pence they voted for Trump and those who wanted to shake up and blow up Washington didn't vote for Pence. I don't think the fanatical right will have the same kind of passionate support they have for Trump. And it's not like Pence is not involved.

I had a suspicion the Intelligence Community was going to be Trump's downfall and it's astounding that these people believed they could out maneuver them, especially Bannon, who I frankly may not be Einstein but isn't stupid. The question I have is the FBI and what was going on there to help throw the election to Trump. It seems they and the FBI are at odds. There are a couple of journalists out there who believe that there is a contingent in the bureau who helped Russia set up Weiner and caused that whole episode with the emails being found on his computer, even to the point where it's possible they worked in setting Weiner up from the beginning with the girl. That last part seems far fetched but after reading Louise Mensch's article, it's certainly possible.

That writeup by Rather shows the parallels. And while people, me included, think the GOP are cowards and such, Nixon initially had the support of his party because they felt he was controllable. And at the end of the day we saw how that turned out. But the dripping of info, the firing by Nixon of Cox and then the subsequent resignations by the AG, the attempt to discredit the media, all there. But while Nixon suffered from paranoia and delusions, he was functionally competent and he did govern.

That's what it is - a contingent in the New York office which has been quasi-rogue and in communication with Giuliani over the years.

I don't trust Louise Mensch. Never have. Seems like a strange person, something flamboyant perhaps used as a stalking horse for Russian counter-intelligence (it's not unheard of; even now, professional leftists like Glenn Greenwald, Ed Schultz, etc. are spinning for Russia and decrying these leaks, ironically enough). I don't think their finding Weiner was anything but a great coincidental opportunity, not a grand conspiracy.

Kellyanne will continue to be used on shows, under the guise that she's admin staff, until she gets booted (if she gets booted) or reassigned to a position with no media contact.

She's an easy way for Jake Tapper, Matt Lauer, and whoever else to show that they are journalists in pursuit of the truth since it's a given that she's going to lie about something.  It's a lazy cheap way for them to get ratings.  CNN declined to have her on that one day but quickly got her on with a geared up Jake Tapper.  I read something about this yesterday and how it makes them appear to be journalistic heroes.

I vaguely remember reading an article where Ted Turner said he had expressed the hope that CNN would end up being run by an independent company, similar to PBS (but presumably with little to no dependence on government funding in contrast).

In an Op-ed piece I read sometime last month or so, essentially the same hope was expressed and that CNN might have a chance at restoring the integrity it once had but lost from the public.

I'm no where near ready to award CNN or any network for any kind of Profile in Courage award. It's all for ratings as it was last year. I am prepared to recognize those who were consistent like The Guardian and yes even the Post to some extent. I still won't give the New York TImes one penny.

I wouldn't get my hopes up for impeachment.  As long as the GOP can push their destructive agendas through Congress, they won't touch Trump.  They'll just keep picking off his minions, one by one, in the hopes of containing him.

Agreed.  Again, I really like the pace of the mystery. RonC always wrote a shocking crime, then it would be solved only through exposition at the end.  I feel like the audience is being shown some respect by them carefully closing all the loopholes.  For example, having Shawn-D call Rafe to turn in his gun was a clever device to get Gabi to confess. As much as I agree with @carolineg about the odd shift in Sophia's character, this plot is starting to make me angry.  A woman is denied an abortion and forced to raise a child?  It is gross.  The stomach pains are a hopeful foreshadowing.  But, if she fakes pregnancy, or hides his miscarriage, I am going to scream!!! Roman continues to be a mench, but I have to admit that I can never keep track of the difference between Max and Benjy.  I guess it helps that Benjy is dead.  Is Max still related to Carly?
    • If Sally Field had been more generous about the writing I would say that her assessment is really very fair. I found Soapdish very funny. The cast is great. Delirious with John Candy and Mariel Hemingway (and Emma Samms!) came out the same year and I had expected to prefer Delirious, but Soapdish is one that I can watch repeatedly.
    • I love SOAPDISH but I think TOOTSIE is better. Generally I am quite fond of gender-benders. VICTOR, VICTORIA, most favorite.
    • On GL we only saw young GA's Philip in very short shorts but on AMC we saw GA's Alec McIntyre in a speedo.  But, on GL, an older GA/Philip is having sex with Olivia in a hotel room where Bruce Barry was directing & he & she both end up down to nothing but black underwear & at one point his bicep is covering her entire upper body so it appears that she is naked. I think they ended up on the floor between the bed & the wall. That was when I realized that Grant's body was better than Steve Burton's. (Olivia was cheating. Her husband Alan was in the hospital.) It is notable that I can speak with any insight AT ALL about these bodies since that is not the team I play for! LOL
    • I mentioned that last week and I am glad Tate and Sophia just realized that today lol.  I think the show is just tying up some of Ron's loose ends.   You would think Brady, Holly or even Marlena would have perhaps pointed out the age thing to Tate at some point. I am not sure I like this shift in Sophia's characterization though.  MK played Sophia as someone who always defied her mom's rules-she just didn't get caught.  She was openly trying to steal Tate from Holly with no shame, showing up at the Horton cabin in bikinis to seduce him, and blackmailing Holly to work all her shifts at the Bistro.  Once the recast started the show has acted like Sophia's lived in her room, sheltered her entire life lol.
    • I thought Dante was going to put hands on Gio
    • If Jordan never appeared again, I would absolutely not notice or miss her.  So, while Brook Kerr has her flaws, she at least appears to have a pulse and a personality as Portia.
    • That's because India, or the India MKA ended up playing, was created due to the fact that both she and Kristi Farrell were liked by TPTB, but the part they both read for didn't exactly fit either one of them so the show created two brand new characters for both actresses to play (India and Roxie) and opted not to cast the character they were intending to cast (A cousin of Beth's). I think that's why the show seemed to struggle at first with how to write both India and Roxie in their first months on the show because the characters weren't ever intended to exist.  And yes.. Grant A had a great body... but I didn't find him hot when he was playing Phillip.. only when he was playing Alec on AMC which baffles me since it was the same actor in both parts LOL
    • I shared this on Twitter and good grief the comments. Steffy fans can be such vile real-life human beings over a fictional character lol.
    • I remember Michael Logan interviewed L.A. actors/production staff about the movie. Susan Seaforth Hayes said she was dying to know Susan Lucci's reaction.
