A man from Debbie's maternity leave story will be coming to see her.

http://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/s12/emmerdale/news/a294283/dominic-power-joins-emmerdale.html

I wonder if they will ever put her with Nikhil.

I get tired of people talking about how miserable Debbie is. EVERYONE on the show is miserable. At least she isn't weeping over her paraplegic partner who is carrying a Down's baby.

I watched an episode from a few days ago and everything was so downbeat. The entire atmosphere of the show, and of the village -- there is no light to be found. Even potentially humorous situations are tinged with misery. The main comic relief was supposed to be the older residents standing and commenting, but that just seemed sad.

I don't know if Pauline Quirke is suited to dramatic acting - her speaking patterns and facial expressions seem off.

The stuff with Rhona and her baby, I have a hard time with how infantile Paddy and Marlon behave. They were both so giddy when she said she was going to keep the baby. It was like it was their baby and she was just the carrier.

Who was that girl working with Zak? She's a bad actress. Her accent gets in the way.

All the stuff with Lisa and that creep is very very uncomfortable. Why are they doing this story?

Seeing Maisie and Will so broken is just awful to sit through. I thought they were supposed to be gone by now? Maisie was once such a fun character.

The only scene I liked was when Hazel thanked Declan for paying for Jackson's care.

I really did not like any of the stuff with Leyla or her sister. The only positive I can say is that woman who plays Leyla did a good job, especially in the last scenes where she was stunned and horrified and embarrassed when Justin revealed their affair. I also think that it was good casting to have Justin look like a brunette version of David -- you can see why Leyla was attracted to them both (now we just need to see him naked). But I hate the child in peril stories, and I really do not like Alicia. I have known way too many people like Alicia, self-centered, nasty, rude, yet always the injured party. I don't need to see this on a show I once enjoyed. And the actress looks so much like Victoria, it just reminds me of Victoria never having a story.

It's like every story has been given an added dose of misery, that this is now a common part of life in the village, that nothing ever has hope.

Lucy Pargeter was brilliant tonight. The MVP scene was easily Paddy telling her that even though she broke his heart, she was still a good person and deserved to be happy. It was lame though how Eve got off so easy. Not even a slap? The hell? That's one problem Emmerdale has sometimes, it's too tame.

Seeing Eric treated as a character is very refreshing. Chris Chittell transitions his emotions so easily. I can't wait for more of this story.

One thing I am surprised about though is that both Sam and Diane were in episode but had absolutely no lines. Worse, Diane was just in the background. Weird.

The Macey add ons don't work for me. Mia is alright, but the father is annoying all get out.

Edna as a character also flourished tonight, both in that scene with Eve where she tells her she'll stand by her even though she doesn't condone what she has done and then right after tells Chas she hopes all the best for her.

If they make Andy the stalker, the nonsensical raping of Sugden family will continue. Although, if Andy could still be a viable leading man (and I think he is) after planning to kill his brother, killing his mother (accidentally) and beating his wife, then maybe this really wouldn't ruin him at all. LoL

I felt conversely to this episode as I did about EE. I don't generally watch Emmerdale but I understood exactly what was going on, why characters were reacting in the way that they were and there was consistency about it.

The wedding was the right mix of camp and searing drama and Lucy Pargeter played the hell out of it. You could tell she was absolutely chuffed to get the big Christmas climax after years of playing sideline hijinx. The final confrontation when she told Carl she deserved better and linked it back to Paddy was beautifully written and acted. She shouldn't be a likeable person - openly admitting that she chose a man over her son and broke Paddy's heart - but it works.

Why is Katy dating a man old enough to be her grandfather? Don't care about Layla's child or whatever.

I really like the Geordie girl in the B&B that's connected to Val. An unusually good actress for a teenager and she seems to have great chemistry with the other characters. I'm very interested in where they go with the Elizabeth Pollard story. I never thought it would get brought up again and it's great to see the show acknowledging history prior to 2000.

My only other random note is that I suddenly find Carl King and David as sexy as hell. Not sure where that's come from.

That's basically what Emmerdale has become -- the same depressing things happen over and over and over every single day.

I've found them sexy ever since David got his haircut (even if they need to lawnmow his face a little) a few years ago, and Carl, I think he's always been hot, perhaps a little more now after he's become a sociopath. I do miss the days when he'd walk around in his underwear, but the sight of him in the sweatpants was a nice Christmas present.

I love Chas and all, but tearing down Andy was not f*cking cool. Shut your trap, bitch! And Katie was such a bitch tonight. Andy DOES deserve better. I'm glad he knows that.

Why the hell did they turn Adam into such an assh*le. The reason his character was a hit was because he's was the good guy. Now he's seems like a huge prick. DUMB! However, I hope the show is teasing me with Scarlett maybe leaving. That would be heaven since the actress is terrible.

I've picked the show back up. My little hiatus was certainly necessary, but Eric actually having a story, one where Chris Chittel proves why he,s been around for years, is worth any Jackson crap. Though I did manage a laugh when Paddy and Hazel started dancing and all he could do was yell! Hilarious.

What I didn't understand was Diane being so angry at Chas for starting that row with Eve in the pub. If anyone knows what it's like to be cheated on, it's her. She should have sympathized with her and banned Eve indefinitely or something.

I loved the slap down that Chas gave Eve, and that Eve fought back. But, Chas being nasty to Ashley and Andy left a bad taste for me. That was unnecessary, and Charity doesn't help.

I love that the Eric story from 1993 has been brought back up, after long been forgotten. But, I'm confused. I thought Elizabeth was the Thai bride that Eric married (actually, I can't remember if they did), who mysteriously disappeared. But, she isn't, and I vaguely remember Elizabeth, and I'm now confused as to what actually happened to the Thai bride, and why Eric wanted Elizabeth dead. I do remember that he was going to kill her, but the plane crash did that for him - or did he kill her and place her body amongst the wreckage to make it look like the plane crash did it?

Does anyone else think Katie's new beau, the cop, will turn out to be some sort of psycho stalker, and Andy will have to eventually save her? I bet they'll use this to prop an Andy/Katie reunion of some sorts, with Katie having to apologize for not believing him.

Regarding Elizabeth, he wanted her dead because she threatened to go to the police because Eric framed her son, Michael, for cheque fraud. When the plane crash hit, Elizabeth died. BUT, it has never been revealed if Eric killed her and blamed the crash or not. That's the whole mystery.

Dee De La Cruz, Eric's bride from the Philippines, eventually got tired of his business woes and paranoia and left him, leaving him suicidal.

Do you want Andy/Katie to reunite, Ben?

Thanks Amello.

She was Filipino! Now I remember, sort of. I liked her. You'd think I'd remember a name like, Dee De La Cruz. LOL.

Some of that Eric/Elizabeth/Michael story rings a bell. Do you want Eric to be a murderer or not? Would it change his character if he was?

I think Andy & Katie are played out. I think they suit being friends that still have a connection, but one that isn't romantic. Andy needs to move on, and find happiness with someone else.

    • I liked the food poisoning angle on Thursday because I said beforehand that I would be annoyed if Vanessa was not there at her BFF's party. And I loved they already planned ahead in the dialogue. lol.   But watching the scene (and a bit of a rewind), it hit me. Wait is she...??? Ooo gurrrl. lol.
    • I'm not at all surprised the 10 lowest-rated episodes are all from Season Seven. Moving The Golden Girls from 9 p.m. to 8 p.m. was foolish.
    • As the folklore goes, Love Boat episodes generally had one "heart" story, one "laughs" story, and one "tears" story. I guess Hotel just stuck with "heart" and "tears."
    • I thought food poisoning was an odd reason for Vanessa to miss the party.  That's why I appreciate reading everyone's comments and theories on this thread.  Oh!!  It hadn't occurred to me to speculate that she might be pregnant. I figured that she and Doug ate different things.  But pregnancy fits better.  I did think Shanice's dialogue delivery was slightly awkward (unusual for her)... but that would make sense if Shanice knew Vanessa had a pregnancy test but Vanessa said don't tell Doug.  I love all this theorizing/speculating, especially since we have no idea what will happen.
    • I want that as well, but given how much I've been playing catch-up during some personal/family drama, it's been background music with very little to hold my interest. Then I saw a spoiler and rolled my eyes.   Very. I guess JG is hitting another of his low points.
    • Well...unexpected wiggle room is still wiggle room.   I went back and finally rewatched Friday's episode (along with Thursday's). And God, how those episodes flowed. It did help that Zimmerman did the breakdowns for both so the plot threads were cohesive. I do wonder if she did it today as well. Martin and Tate also of course did good scripts. And I might have to take back my earlier comment about the crowd. While it was not like Nicole's Award Event where I felt there were more extras (and was in the minority on that), I felt this one did not have enough (also in the minority). But on a rewatch, I did like that Production actually did a fairly decent job of covering it up so kudos.    I also wanted to take the moment to say the majority of the week before last (and this past week) were full of cliffhangers. Perhaps not what is used to, but they were there. And I loved that since the majority of said cliffhangers were connected to Silk Press Sheila, it gave an intensity and build to the last week leading to this superb episode that gave us not only an old school soap reveal (complete with moments to let the scenes breathe, but annoyed in how other scenes which were also good did not compare...another sign of knowing when a reveal is great) but, THREE cliffhangers!!! Well-done, Cliffhanger Friday!!!   Ms. Mann and Ms. Michelle were clearly the stars. I've said it once someone mentioned it and I'll say it again...Ambyr just gives so much SMG's version of Kendall on AMC in Eva, and I love that. And that reveal on Silk Press Sheila...WOW. Great to have confirmation that BILL was the lawyer. Even better to see Silk Press interacting with all of the Duprees and not being a bit scared. And yes, I caught that she was preggers at the same time as Nicole. I also caught in the Martin vs Ted scene when he was talking about the timeline was another clue...since we discussed the timeline during Kat's birthday party episodes and how odd it was that Silk Press Sheila would celebrate Eva's birthday if the weeks were off. UNLESS...they're not. I just feel they would not be mentioning it unless SilkPress has a 90s DAYS Sami Trump card incoming. And 90s DAYS Sami Brady ALWAYS had a trump card. So...looking forward to today. lol.    I'm also going to be in the minority about the next thought. I thought Maurice did a good job as Ted in the reveal scenes. Though I do agree that compared to everyone else...even his FOINE doctor friend...he was the weak leak. DD was giving and she was in the background reacting. The Avengers...I mean...the Duprees closing ranks...was great and also showed how in sync the actors were. Naomi being sure Chels was not filming THIS time was a hoot. And I lived for Kat's shade among the mess. I'm happy that we are here at this reveal with OriginalTed since the rumor (marking preemptions) we are a little under two weeks to go before he's out.   I liked the layers. One thing that I like about this show. We usually mention something here and then the show writers have it mentioned either in episode or immediately in the next. The SilkPress/Eva picture last week. Where is Naomi/Vanessa this week of episodes. And they got to it. Well-played. I also like the reveal that Martin knew SilkPress as a kid, calling back to that weird scene with the brownie. I mentioned the Bill-as-Lawyer scene, calling back to Bill/Vernon's first alone scene. The reveal of all of SilkPress's many names. The fact that Andre and Dani continue to grow closer and closer and had a near-miss...something this show knows how to do extremely well for me. Their near-misses built up the drama and story, and I see how much I'm invested when we have them. The whole Silk Press Sheila story being the best example.    I see from a few of the comments some of you all are already thinking about those consequences toward Bill that I was thinking about on Friday.

And while I did not like the Vanessa/Doug scenes at first view...though I love they followed up on her food poisoning phone call on Thursday...I liked it on second watch. Partly because it gave another hint that Doug has some idea of what Vanessa is doing...if not who.  Partly because I had assumed that Doug got poisoned, too. Seeing it was just Vanessa confused me since I thought they were out at dinner pre-party. That said...I go back to my original thought in that moment. Has Vanessa being having all this sex without protection and we are going to get a WTD with Doug, Diego, and whoever else she has been with? Uh oh?    And I continue to also love how flashbacks are used. Rare do they show a flashback to a prior episode unless it's important so those are well done. And then you have the flashbacks like the one with Bill/Dani that informs the audience. And I loved that green dress. But tbf, I loved the feistiness of her red dress. Andre was not alone in taking her in.    And someone mentioned it the other day and I wanted to echo it. One thing I like about this show that I don't see much in the other soaps to this degree has been that several of the characters have their own personal style for sure, but the men's style really have stood out for me since its started. Ted being a clear example with his turtlenecks and general...for lack of better word at the moment manly...to him. I like that about the men where other men styles on other soaps just blend together.    Looking forward to Kat v Eva, Anita vs Silk Press Sheila, and Nicole vs Ted today.    Did I mention I was happy Clifton was back?
    • I’ll take a pass on the lecture, because you've overestimated my concern with your feedback, but thanks for the enthusiasm. Your claims of not wanting to get into an argument over every post are unfortunately voided by your impulsive need to add into discussions that are none of your concern.
    • I guess it's because the stories on "Hotel" tended to be very...melodramatic, lol?  I mean, it seems like every episode had long-lost lovers reuniting or people finding out someone they knew and/or loved was dying.  And then there was the time Anne Baxter was strung out on dope, lol. Brandon Stoddard must've envied what the other Brandon (Tartikoff) was doing at NBC.
    • Given some of the things that have been said I am going to quote the preface to an analysis I researched & posted about the desired demos when JFP was EP of AW. And, that is more than enough about that, from me.
    • The thing that I am stuck on is that the in studio scenes in Egypt started airing in mid-October. It seems very strange that they would have planned to have a couple of weeks of studio scenes airing before they started showing location footage. Normally even though some scenes in a remote-infused storyline are in studio, they would start airing a mixture of studio and location footage at the same time. I suspect they had put Arizona in their back pocket well before the Achille Lauro (hence Hawk arriving in September) and possibly moved up the Egypt in-studio action so that the remote Arizona piece unfolded during November. The Achille Lauro may have been the final straw but I would bet it was not the first time they considered the risk. I have found one somewhat contemporaneous reference published on October 19th but pinned to an October 7th* "diary entry" mentioning that the location shoot in Egypt had been changed to Arizona. "International terrorism has its effect on daytime drama, too. Another World producers had scheduled an elaborate and expensive location shoot in Egypt this fall, But with the serious military attacks and hijackings going on, they decided to play it safe. They are going to Arizona instead. The cast members involved were disappointed but understood the decision." *Undated, but specified as the Monday before Melody Thomas's wedding to Ed Scott. But of course it's possible that the first draft referred to Egypt and was revised after October 7th to mention the cancellation before it went to press. But even making the decision the week of October 7th seems tight to get the Egypt scenes to air on the 17th/18th. I would love to find something from a daily news cycle that would be clearer about the dates.
