So what are your thoughts on where this Tom storyline will lead? Is he seeking revenge for somebody by messing with Debbie? It certainly can’t be her magic vag. If this was an American soap I guess it could be Andy with plastic surgery after winning the Euromillions jackpot in France.

Emmerdale sparks viewer complaints after Robert Sugden's sex scam with Lawrence White

Thursday's episodes will now be assessed by the broadcasting watchdog.

Emmerdale has sparked complaints to Ofcom over Robert Sugden and Lawrence White's shocking storyline twist.

Robert (Ryan Hawley) put one of his most surprising schemes yet into action last night, as he tricked Lawrence into thinking that they'd slept together.

The ruthless character played puppetmaster by plying Lawrence with alcohol, making sure he got so drunk that he passed out.

After helping to get Lawrence upstairs, Robert got undressed, climbed into bed with him and later claimed that they'd had sex.

Robert also accused Lawrence of taking advantage of him, pretending that he'd been drunk himself at the time.

Digital Spy can confirm that Ofcom has received nine complaints overnight about the scenes, which had a mixed reaction on social media last night.

The complaints came from viewers who were unhappy over the non-consensual element of the storyline, as well as the sexual nature of the scenes. However, nothing actually happened between them as Robert is scamming Lawrence.

An Ofcom spokesperson told Digital Spy: "We will assess these complaints before deciding whether or not to investigate."

Emmerdale has previously sparked Ofcom complaints this year over Aaron Dingle's prison violence storyline, Rhona Goskirk's rape ordeal, and even Emma Barton bullying little Arthur Thomas – but the show was cleared of any wrongdoing in each case.

Robert's scheming formed part of an ongoing storyline, which sees him trying to bring down the White family and seize control of Home Farm.

Viewers will see the fallout continue in tonight's episode, following Robert's ultimatum that Lawrence's daughter Rebecca should hear what supposedly happened between them.

There were scenes before this in the episode where Sam and Butch actually threw rocks at Luke until he ran off (he'd come for one last attempt to win Tina). It was just shocking to watch, and to think of what the Dingles were then to the village and how they'd become such central figures by the early '00s.

(although they made sure to keep Tina and Zak out of the worst as I guess at this point they were already building them up...)

It was almost a waste of time if they were building up Tina since she left the show the following year and hasn't returned. (Not that I'm complaining!

It's really a bit odd to see Butch in these early appearances and compare that to how he was just before his death. It's like he's a different character altogether. He was a really nasty character in the beginning and almost portrayed as a cuddly teddy-bear at the end. Not that it made any real difference to me. I didn't mourn his death at all. One less Dingle = happy me!

I seem to recall that he predicted it a while back, and it turned out to be true. Just like his prediction that Moira would get pregnant, leading to a who's the daddy storyline.

But frankly I don't think it's a who's the daddy storyline at all. I would be completely shocked if Cain isn't revealed as the baby's father. After all, he's a Dingle, and there can never be enough Dingles, right?

    • Where do you discover this crazy rumor??
    • Jill Farren Phelps was always very skilled at saying what she meant onscreen in the bluntest way possible, like whenever she wanted fans to support one character vs. the other (hence Megan McTavish groaning about having to write Kale Browne's Sam Rappaport into three days a week at OLTL). Perhaps you should consider doing the same. Historically your intent is always far more obvious than your efforts at coy embroidery anyway. You believe people are dismissing Phelps' accomplishments, and suggest misogyny and fan blinders allow people to too easily pigeonhole and dismiss her skill set. I think we all understand her varied skill set. We're saying it's not enough to make up for her deficiencies as a storyteller and creative. JFP was undoubtedly a skilled technical producer. As a solo storyteller, and de facto HW, she was a repeat and predictable failure. She was not the first or last EP (male or female) to think she was a writer. If you want us to stop taking your behavior personally when you suggest misogyny is at play in board opinions of JFP, perhaps you should consider spending the next 10+ years here not acting like you're the only one who gets it.

Melissa was here today & we went to Michael's Crafts & Ofc Depot. In Michael's there were two beautiful LITTLE girls who kept staring at me, so I gave them a littel wave & very quietly said HI & then did back. I told Melissa they were staring at me. She smiled & said "Purple. A lot of little girls love purple & you forget but you have purple hair. Seeing you their whole imaginations are transformed! Thinking "That lady has purple hair. That means I can have purple hair! They had no clue before seeing you that it was possible." I just laughed & laughed.
    • This opening scene is hilarious...it's like someone wrote out the script for Philip with one hand. And Rick...sniffing a scarf over and over. And in their next scene they are still sniffing the [!@#$%^&*] scarf as the camera stays all over Philip's bare chest and armpits as he keeps working out. Insane stuff.

Bay City better be ready, because I'm back!   At Vicky's apartment she is once again drowning in doubts and jealousy. Deep down she realizes that her dream wedding will be a farce and nothing can change that. Bridget tries to calm her down, but the heroine is determined to suffer. She is not hearing any positive thoughts. She doesn't believe Jamie will marry her. At the Cory Publishing building another farce is in process. Iris, once again pretending to be the angel of love and sisterhood... is telling Mac and Rachel some wonderful news. When Iris has good news, you really need to look out for yourself. That's when things are bad. So what are the news? Miss Devil has put Amanda up for an award! Mac is smiling from ear to ear, and Rachel is suspicious. Maybe that's the effect Iris is looking for. To once again accent on the fact that Rachel doubts and criticizes her daughter. Iris will do anything to destabilize their relationship. She is like a cancer. Back to Vicky! Jamie is at the door. Looking like a sad puppy, he has come with a surprise. No, he is not gonna leave her and her unborn... Not yet. He has bought her earrings. Sad face. How nice. NOT. Victoria, of course... manages to break one of them the moment she touches it. Bad premonition maybe? She was back in hysterics. It's not easy to trap a man into marriage. Then you have to live with someone that didn't want you in the first place.  We were introduced to a new character (to me at least she is new) - Cass's sister - Stacey. She is giving me "hidden skeletons in the closet"-vibes. Love a girl like that. Stunning actress. I like her. The highlight of the episode was the strange and creepy reveal of Evan the escort... hugging someone named Janice's grave. I remember she had an issue with Rachel... and Rachel killed her in self defense I think... It was hinted in prior episodes, but I lack the context and story. I just know that everyone at the Frame house was mad that Rachel killed the bish. But I also got the impression that this Janice was sick in the head. So Evan is now talking to her grave and telling her he is going to ruin Rachel's life basically. Oh, Evan... I liked you better as a sexy gigolo.  Overall - 10/10 - how can I rate it lower when I haven't watched in months!!!

    • Once again, Marlena and Kayla were used very effectively and I couldn’t be happier.  Marlena counseling Johnny and then Chanel was the best part of today. They’re really delving into the human emotion of this storyline and I think that’s a good thing. It feels so much mature than it was before. EJ’s fear about what could happen to Johnny if he doesn’t let go of his anger could lead to some really good storylines in the future.  I also really appreciate the way that Paula/Jeanne are mixing it up and having different characters interact with each other. It was nice to see Shawn and Johnny remember that they’re cousins and share a scene together. I liked the parallel that was drawn between the two of them, and what’s going on with their fathers. I did have mixed feelings about everything with Cat though. I enjoyed Chanel warning her about EJ, mostly because it played into the way that she was written today. But I wasn’t the biggest fan of the Chad/EJ scenes. The two of them discussing Chad’s potential feelings for Cat didn’t really keep my interest.  But above all, I feel that everyone is being used more effectively and that we’re getting a better understanding of everyone as well. And that was exactly what Days needed.
    • It's a wild story for sure, especially the final conclusion (and fireworks offcamera, like Victoria Wyndham tearing into Michael Logan).
