THANK YOU!

Blanche to Deirdre:

"You need to learn to enjoy other people's misfortune; otherwise, you're going to have a very unhappy old age."

hahahaha!

Blanche to Tracy:

"You look remarkably chipper. Trod on a snail?"

Double hahahahahahaha

Blanche talking about Ross at Peter's AA meeting:

"I've never heard so much self-indulgent whinging in all my life. Is there some correlation between how boring you are and how much you drink?"

triple..

And this just typifies Blanche:

Blanche to Deirdre:

"Good looks are a curse. You and Ken should count yourselves lucky."

Oh, Maggie.... :(

The AA meeting scenes were indeed just pure gold...

Meanwhile, Joe smashing his way into the medical centre in search of pills made it far easier to accept all the months of his addiction. (yeah, I'm still watching Aug eps ) It was a good, unexpected climax.

OMG What a shock to see her in her first episode! I had never so much seen a single photo of hers from an earlier era....

I just feel sad they didn't use her more since the 70s... it was decades before they brought her on permanently.... She will be so missed.

I also wish they'd used her more earlier on. She was a talk-to for Deirdre, she dated Dave Smith (a bookie who also dated Elsie Tanner), and for a few episodes ran the Rovers (can you imagine later Blanche doing that). She was a very different character back then. Then they wrote her out for years and mostly focused on Deirdre alone. It was only when they brought her back 10 years ago that they added more of the sarcastic touches, but even in the older stuff you can't take your eyes off her.

Of course she wasn't even the first actress to play Blanche but she did take over early on and she was amazing.

Funny, you can see Ken in that 1974 clip, looking on after the slap.

    • Thanks. I'm glad we have some fan memories of these years as this is such a typically snide take on the genre. It's also poorly written and reminds me a great deal of the tedious "snark" recaps that became popular in the '90s. The end in particular. The 1979/80 stuff I have seen is much more polished than a number of soaps at the time. It was very easy to watch and not too bogged down in past story.  Margo is played by Ann Williams, who was on what seemed like every soap. I think she said Margo was her favorite role.
    • And the rating 'wars' continue...hehe.
    • Well, it was fun while it lasted for Rebecca Herbst. Le sigh.
    • I am wholeheartedly enjoying this show. I just haven't been able to post as much as I used to. But yes, this episode needs to be submitted for the EMMYs and there needs to be wins. I better NOT see Y&R, DAYS, or B&B winning in categories over BTG. I feel like the only show that is giving BTG an ounce of competition this season is GH.
    • I never thought the day would come, but too much MM for me.
    • I think it may be that the character was brought in for a specific purpose and then became popular with viewers, and the show didn't know how to respond.  The choice to pivot away from Simon/India may show that you are right and they didn't care for her...although pairing them up may be another sign they didn't care for her. I don't connect well with this period but it does make me happy seeing some of these characters before the great purge and some of the surprises - I'd forgotten the wonderful Maureen O'Sullivan popped up to be bumped off. So typical of soaps by this point, but it doesn't grate as much as later on when Y&R would bring on any random cast member from Small Wonder. I'm also amazed at this time at just how much money the show must have had. The costumes for the Founder's celebration in summer 1984, or whatever it was, looked gorgeous.
    • Which officially started to feel that way today with them hearing each other out as they confronted each other at the same time.    Same. He was even catching himself when he was about to go overboard or do those tics that people don't seem to like. He failed a bit at the end, but he carried. It makes me think about a month back when it was discussed that the actor was better in other things he's been in. And I questioned then if that meant that he was playing Martin more intentionally. I questioned that briefly again today because he was giving.
    • I really like the actress who plays Margo. Don't know  her name. I'm so hesitant to google anyone because I don't want to know the length they were on the show. I've watched two episodes and I have to say that the show does not feel as dated as other shows. I tried to watch Ryan's Hope a few weeks back and some of the acting was a bit rough. EON is a lot more natural which amuses me considering it's a mystery/thriller show.
    • She’s INCREDIBLE. I’m so glad you enjoyed this my friend.
