DAYS has never been a realistic show and Sheffer needs to accept it.

Not true.

I haven't watched DAYS since Matt Ashford/Missy Reeves left, so I won't offer a comment on the show currently(except to say I hope Sheffer somehow gets Jack/Jen back on DAYS). If all of you still watching are happy with Sheffer's writing/SLs, that's the most crucial thing!

TIIC should be grateful there are so many passionate advocates for their soap on this board. :D

This week have been AWESOME and VERY FAR from boring IMO!

The show is not all cliffhangers and climax's right now...but when was DAYS ever like this....not every often.

I think Hogan is doing a FABULOUS job with cleaning JERk horrible mess he left behind!

Thank you Mitch. You are so right. First off, what kind of story movement are some of you looking for? I am not saying the show is perfect but what kind of action do you want? Seriously, some of you come off as you want JER style writing where he has some gimmick or big event and then things get boring for two months. You are getting quality episodes and movement every day. For instance, this week:

-we learned Victor's secret and today learned it was Philip (no surprise to spoiler fans but still)

-Shawn is already suspicious of Victor and Belle is as well.

-Bo and Hope moving back in together and Hope ending things with Patrick.

-Stephanie released, Steve remembering, and Kayla finally getting cured (dragged out yes but not this week).

-J&M in danger and attacked by the gloved hand and their fans get some romance.

-Chelsea telling Billie she saw her with Bo.

-the EJ/Patrick story heating up.

There is still tomarrow too. That is ALOT of movement and there has been alot of action. Is it edge of your seat? No but how can it be. Isn't that the case with anything? No one beleives a major character or whatever is going to die so it's never edge of yoru seat. There is suspense there and tension.

King I don't care if anyone agrees with me or not. All I am asking is what some people are looking for. Hogan has a mess ahead of him and, as was discussed on Ryan's showm Days is still in a transition. This week was really the first week where stories were reallty turned upside down. Again, I don't care if anyone agrees but when people say there is no movement and the show is boring I get lost. I wonder if it's a difference in fans. It seems a majority of us who watched the show going back the 80's love the show now but those that started in the 90's or later are finding it dull. That is just an observation as alot of people who watched back then, like me, seem to love it and the rest are looking for more.

You can all have opinions and I can disagree with them. That is the way it is but I guess I don't see what some of you see.

Not true.

I agree!!

DAYS became unrealistic and cartoonish when James E. Reilly arrived in the early 90's. At least Sheffer is trying to bring some damn respect back to this soap!

Unless one really expected Kayla to not get the cure in time or John & Marlena to meet a fiery end in a place crash, this would week probably would not have had you on the edge of your seat. It was alot of action without a great deal of suspense.

King is right. What the show needs is real story movement.

Again, another person who completely missed the point about these events this week

I agree with the original poste. DAYS absolutely rocks right now. It is the best out of all 9 soaps right now IMO.

I think alot of people missed the point Mitch.

I mean the Steve/Kayla thing was dragged out but this week it has been pure magic. The whole show has been magic this week IMO.

Actually Phoenix it sounds to me like a lot of bitter Jack and Jennifer fans who will NEVER accept DAYS without them......I would take Sheffer's current writing than ANY MINUTE of Jack & Jennifer under JERk supervision.

These fans need to be happy that AT LEAST J&J were allowed to leave Salem happy and played by the same actors, who KNOWS what would have happened if JERk was allowed to write their ending.

If you say so. LMAO!!!!

Oh that is part of it no doubt but, based on some of the reactions I have seen, it just seems like those that were around in the 80's love what is going on for the most part moreso then those who started in the 90's or after that. Someone made this similar point on another message board too. I mean I will agree to disagree with those that find it boring but I just can't see what they are seeing but, then again, every viewer and fan is different. I think this whole week and today was just fantastic.

The part that angered me was Matt Ashford being fired again, just after he'd signed a new contract.

Yes, Jack/Jen had a nice send off, but the whole thing was so rushed and contrived!

J&J fans would have accepted a Jennifer recast if Matt Ashford had been allowed to stay on DAYS.

All of those who call J&J fans selfish, put yourselves in our shoes: how would you feel if for example Kristian Alfonso/Peter Reckell or Deirdre Hall/Drake Hogestyn were fired and written off DAYS? I bet a lot of you would be turning off DAYS permanently.

Listen, I understand! I was pissed too when Ashford was fired for the 3rd Time but honestly this was NOT Hogan Sheffer's fault. If you want to blame someone for this blame JERk or Ken Corday...not Sheffer.

Sheffer even stated publically that he liked the Jack character and was saddened he was not going to be able to get a chance to write for him.

You should be more pissed at JERk for the ATROCIOUS writing he did for Matt & Missy in their final year. I mean it is what eventually drove Melissa Reeves off the show, which in turn resulted in Ashford also being let go. Had JERk kept her happy, perhaps she would have agreed to stay on the show and perhaps J&J would too be benefiting from this awesome headwriter that DAYS has. But that is all a moot point now because JERk destroyed ANY chance of that ever happening!

I am a couples fan and I am also a DAYS fan. I would NEVER quit the show simply because one couple is let fo or because one of my fave actors was let go...it sucks, It REALLY sucks...but I have allowed myself to love other characters and other couples on the show....something I think ALOT of J&J fans never were able to do (which is fine) but don't come here and b*tch about how crappy the show is when it is so damn clear that you (and others) are not watching it anymore. Too many J&J fans will not even give the show a second chance or Hogan Sheffer a chance, its ridiculous!

I can barely visit The Conn anymore because the atmosphere there is just so hostile...its just awful!

Well I am a 90's fan who is absolutely LOVING the show right now. Mind you I have been watching since 89, but still I saw some of the best stuff from 89 to 93 and 93 to now...and I also saw horrible things in both those times but for me I have not enjoyed DAYS this much in a LONG LONG time!

I was born in 1979, and started watching the second I entered the world. I remember Wayne's Roman falling off the cliff during the prism storyline, and Marlena shooting Stefano at the Ice Rink (I was just five or six years old, but I think those first memories solidified my love for the show).

I can honestly say this IS Days. This is what the show use to represent. The show had a lot of action back in the day, but most of the time the action revolved around romance, family, and friendships. For the action in a drama to revolve around those three points, you have to have more dialouge and interaction with characters, which might lend itself to a few slow days every so often.

The point is, even if the show has some "boring" moments when the action seems to take a backseat to character and ensemble development, it just lends itself to higher quality and higher standards. In order for us to invest with our emotions, we have to understand the characters again, and that takes rebuilding.

The good news is, when a plot climaxes, and we are drawn in, it makes the pay off ten times as sweet. It isn't about "The Storyline" or "The Plot", as much as it is about the characters and the effect the climax will have on the entire canvas. It means we aren't just watching a head writers creation or an event (eg. the serial sl or the possesion), we are watching an emotional fallout. The prism storyline was not realistic by any means, but it resonated as a critical success, not just a ratings grabber, because we were invested emotionally. Thats what Hogan is trying to start back, and I for one, feel like I've found a long lost friend.

As far as Days and reality ... IMO Days at it's best is about being true to the emotional stakes despite outlandish circumstances. The wacky adventures or whatever should never make or break the emotional story being told. That is what to me happened under JER. The Cruise of Deception is one of my favorite storylines but the setting only enhanced the storylines already at play: Jack and Jennifer getting closer, Roman and Isabella getting closer, Bo and Hope returning with some secrets, etc. It didn't create easy outs nor was it the sole basis upon which the emotional momentum was created. Plus, it was just plain fun.

If something fails to either challenge me emotionally or tickle my funny bone, that's when it's just cheesy, and the unrealness gets to you.

Thank you, Thank you to BOTH of your posts. They perfectly sum up how I feel about the show and what direction I want this show to move into.

The emotional punch that has been missing for years on this show is finally returning and characters are finally driving story, not plots!

I am sick of these outlandish events and "never-before-seen" moments...I just want a story with a well thought out beginning-middle and end..is that soo much to ask for!
