Thanks to the incredible Oceanview for bringing us the SOW/SID scoops weekly! :)

HEAD WRITER OUSTED (pic of Jeanne Cooper, Bill Bell, Lee Bell and Kay Alden together)

32 year veteran Kay Alden has been let go from The Young and the Restless. Alden and her team won the Emmy for Outstanding Writing in 2000 and 2006.

"I treasure the friendships I have established with so many of you over the years," Alden wrote in a letter to the cast and crew. "I take with me the unparalleled honor of being Bill Bell's protege and right hand. While I worked at his side, the show moved tot the top of the ratings. I will always be grateful to have been part of that tremendous success...I hope that some glimmer of his vision will continue to shine through in the show that was his life and his passion, as it has been mine."

Josh Griffith is now co-executive producer, while Lynn Marie Latham sits at the top as executive producer and sole head writer. She joined the show in February.

"A lot of the writers are still here," weighs in a setside source. "And [supervising producer] Ed Scott's still here going strong."

My Thought:

Well LML the ball is in YOUR court now. This is a stupid decision, because even though Kay Alden was a bad writer she still knew the history of the show.

I see this show being very unrecognizable come next year.

Yup, Y&R will be unrecognizable. That's what happens when new writers who have no ties to the show enter and people who have worked for over 20 years leave.

No ties to Y&R

- Lynn Marie Latham

- Scott Hamner

- Josh Griffith

- Paula Cwikly

- Bernard Lechowick

- Tom Casiello

- James Stanley

Y&R Vets.....gone

- Jim Houghton (1991)

- Trent Jones (1993)

- John F. Smith (1978)

- Kathryn Foster (mid 80's)

- Kay Alden - (1976)

- Eric Friedwald (mid 1980's - possibly gone.....last script was on Sept. 28)

I told everyone two months ago that Alden was "ghost consulting" for ATWT. Everybody made fun of me.

They're just now making this official as she hasn't done any actual "work" on Y&R in about 3 months.

CBS is really desperate to keep her, though. She'll get top dollar wherever she ends up.

Here's to hope tthat ABC will try scooping up Kay Alden to write for one of their soaps!!!

:) :) :)

Everyone will be upset by this, but everyone also seems to agree that her headwriting was pretty terrible. Losing her is not a big deal to me. I think the collaboration with the actors and research will help maintain continuity.

Just so long as she stays away from ATWT I will be very happy. I know alot of people like Kay Alden, but the last few years of her time on Y&R was very boring, then again part of that could have been Jack Smith also, so I guess I can't just blame Kay.

Sad.

Kay Alden had her hits and misses at Y&R, but any soap would be lucky to get her. Glad to know CBS is desperate to keep her.

Yes, but you also said it was [s.W.S.N.B.N.] who wrote the Y&R murder mystery. But SID says it's Scott Hamner who's writing it. Read here.

I dissagree with those who say she would not be good for ATWT.

I hope she comes on staff officially soon.

We have Leah Laiman and Chris Whitesell on staff. Wanna talk about hacks?

About Y&R? I am concerned that this show will be "unrecognizable in a year" as Drew said. The show was so boring yesterday I was actually glad to see Bush interrupt mid way through the show yesterday!

is Sally Sussman Morina still doing her consulting / writing thing? Cause she dates back to Y&R in atleast the 80s.

This is not surprising. The writing was on the wall for Alden for awhile. Alden I never liked her head writing tenure but she is good to have on the team as support as character history and knowledge. This is not surprising as since Latham has become executive producer she has fired so many people. I feel bad for Kay Alden but I have no doubt she will turn up on another soap. I bet ABC will give offers to Jack Smith and Kay Alden. I think Smith will go to B&B but Alden will go in a different direction. I bet ABC hires her to head write one of there soaps. The soap I would choose for her is All My Children because it is a tradational show and that is a strong suit for Alden. I have no doubts though we will see Alden's name pop up soon.

- Sally Sussman Morina last listed as story consultant on May 12

She's still writing breakdowns though.

I thought that another poster said Alden was going to be taking over as headwriter for ATWT. I am at the point where I am willing to give her a chance on AMC. I think just about anyone would do a better job for that show.
