November 10, 200619 yr Member Alden's stint as headwriter was as obsessed with sperm stealing as McTavrish's recent stint, however, Alden did have more hits than McTavrish does now. Alden at ATWT would be interesting, ATWT is ok, but there's room for improvement and a new writer might do the trick. With her experience at Y&R, Alden could try to take ATWT back to its multigenerational roots, after all, Y&R does have the most well-balanced cast on daytime, but in some aspects she sucked at that during her headwriting stint.
November 10, 200619 yr Member I think one thing Alden did really wrong, IMHO, was the direction of the character of Ashley. Or maybe that's because Ashley was played by Shari Shattuck...
November 11, 200619 yr Member Yes, but you also said it was [s.W.S.N.B.N.] who wrote the Y&R murder mystery. But SID says it's Scott Hamner who's writing it. Read here. I never said [s.W.S.N.B.N.] wrote the murder mystery. I said that [s.W.S.N.B.N.] was writing DRUSCILLA. Anyway, Kay Alden and Boof are "Ghost Consultants" so whatever they wrote won't credited anyway. DUH
November 11, 200619 yr Member I see this show being very unrecognizable come next year. Unless a lot changes I don't. I mean behind the scenes it is, but in front of the camera so far Latham has not given us a big influx of new characters. Many new writers start out doing that from the beginning and you can tell a direction of the show under that writer. I don't have a problem with new blood on a show, but I hate when the new blood starts dominating. That was my only complaint about Hogan at ATWT. I loved the character of Craig, but suddenly after he got there, he brought Craig back and it became the Craig hour. A few other new characters were treated the same way for awhile. But so far Latham has not done that. And I appreciate that. So unless it changes a lot between now and next year, I don't see the show really changing all that much in front of the camera. So far I think everyone is being featured okay. I did have complaints about Kay and Jill, and their lack of airtime but the last 2 weeks they have been featured more. I hope that doesn't stop.

I think the show is better than it's been since Bill Bell died. Latham is "mostly" creating hits.
November 11, 200619 yr Author Member ^I disagree. Kay Alden and Jack Smith may have been failures but atleast they wrote some good stories. I've yet to see LML come up with a good story. And she'll never accomplish that without buildup. Kay Alden had the Tricia madness and Jack Smith had the Tuvia/Safra.

November 11, 200619 yr Member I never said [s.W.S.N.B.N.] wrote the murder mystery. I said that [s.W.S.N.B.N.] was writing DRUSCILLA. Yeah... Sorry, know that you mentioned it, I remember. Memo to me to always check waht others said. ^I disagree. Kay Alden and Jack Smith may have been failures but atleast they wrote some good stories. I've yet to see LML come up with a good story. And she'll never accomplish that without buildup. Kay Alden had the Tricia madness and Jack Smith had the Tuvia/Safra. Remember the Diane Jenkins years: Victor married Diane Jenkins and Nikki married dr. Joshua Landers. Josh's ex-wife found, who was presumed dead, entered the picture and tried to win her lover back from Nikki. In the process, she killed Josh and shot Nikki four times. The sight of Nikki on her deathbed rekindled Victor's love and he quickly divorced his current wife, Diane Jenkins to remarry Nikki in the hospital. Much to Nikki's dismay, Victor's 'quick divorce' from Diane was declared illegal and their marriage was voided. Victor finally divorced Diane legally and, although not married to Nikki, the couple continued their relationship. Diane, however, is never too far away. Most recently the couple have reentered hard times. Unsure of Victor's fidelity, the insecure Nikki resumed her affair with Brad Carlton. In addition, Ashley has come back to Genoa City. Victor has moved out of the Newman ranch and Nikki suspects he is seeing Diane. Anyway, Kay Alden and Boof are "Ghost Consultants" so whatever they wrotewon't credited anyway. Of course... We won't even discuss this.

That was Y&R's silver jubilee - The show rocked in 1998 (the last time Bill Bell was credited as writer and Kay Alden took officially over)... ...yet 1999 was even better with the fight for Jabot after Victor returned from New Mexican presumed deadness. I loved Alden years, and no one - alive - knows Y&R better than she does. This will hurt the show very badly, losing Kay Alden.
