  1. January 3, 1985 Y&R Traci performance at empty Torchlight Club. That scene was chosen by Beth Maitland as her most memorable moment for the 50th anniversary clip compilation.
  2. Halfway through the 1980s and the soap tiers are Top tier: General Hospital, All My Children, Y&R Mid tier: Guiding Light, As the World Turns, Days, One Life to Live Bottom Tier: Capitol, Another World, Loving, Santa Barbara, Ryan's Hope, Search for Tomorrow
  3. If Hayley Erin's new character takes off, she could make Summer, Sally, Audra redundant.
  4. @Vee Looking forward to your thoughts on the final 10 episodes of season 6. Those episodes to me were the peak of Knots Landing: Ava Gardner arc, the start of Empire Valley, Val's babies.
  5. No mention of Y&R music is complete without mentioning Whenever this played you knew something dangerous with consequences was about to go down.
  6. 1985 we'll see Y&R continue to grow and the start of Marland-era As the World Turns.
  7. Yes to all of this. I loved when Mamie told Jill that the $1M Jill gave her was now $10M. Also in the flashback, "that Diane?" was everything.
  8. When Aaron Spelling Ruled Television: An Oral History of Entertainment’s Prolific, Populist Producer – The Hollywood Reporter Candy Spelling confirms what I've long suspected, that Brandon Stoddard wanted the Spelling shows gone from ABC.
  9. Ryan's Hope run was 13 1/2 years. Loving run was 12 years. They were ABC's longest-running soaps other than their big three.
  10. Agree. Ronn Moss acting got progressively worse during the 1990s. SOD had Caroline's death and widower Ridge in their Worst of 1990. The write ups are here Classic Soap Opera Digest News on Tumblr - #Best & Worst
  11. Y&R Eric Braeden was initially three months, then Bill Bell changed the storyline, and the rest is history.
  12. Dallas has a masculine energy that can be very off-putting, especially when viewed through a 2023 lens. All 1980s primetime soaps have to be watched with the mindset that they are products of their time and a lot of things are not going to hold up well by today's standards.
  13. 1986 Y&R moved past All My Children for 2nd. All My Children had tough head-to-head competition in 1986: second half of Y&R, first half of Marland era As the World Turns, supercouple era Days.
  14. @JoeCool CBS's June 8, 1981 move of Y&R to 12:30 pm ET lead to it becoming a killer show that destroyed every soap in its path: Ryan's Hope, Loving, The City, Port Charles on ABC. The Doctors, Search for Tomorrow, Generations on NBC.
  15. October 8, 1984: ABC moves Ryan's Hope to noon ET and Loving to 12:30 pm ET.
  16. Maybe because Hotel was the lead out from Dynasty and it was a bit more soapier with its storylines than The Love Boat.
  17. Y&R tied for #1! Putting Victor in the Abbott orbit is paying off.
  18. 1986 Y&R moves past All My Children for #2. 1984 through the first half of 1986 I'd say is Y&R's 1980s peak.
  19. @beebs Also Y&R blew up during 1983 and by 1984 was cemented in the top 3.
  20. Twice in the 1980s there were 14 soaps on the air: March 29-December 31, 1982 and July 30-December 28, 1984. The 1980s began with 13 soaps and ended with 12 soaps.
  21. Y&R Fall 1984 Victor enters the Abbott orbit, setting in motion Y&R as we know it today. So a 5% drop from March 1984 to December 1986. Thank you for the information.
  22. From this thread, Search for Tomorrow clearance was dropping every year since the move to NBC. Final week on CBS March 22-26, 1982: 97% First week on NBC March 29-April 2, 1982: 91% Week of March 28-April 1, 1983: 85% Week of March 26-30, 1984: 78% At this rate, I'm estimating the NBC run ended with about 65% clearance, so similar to what we're seeing in 1984 for The Edge of Night at the end of its ABC run.
  23. Also to beat Oprah.
  24. Y&R this week was the end of Dorothy McGuire arc.
  25. June 27, 1984 Y&R Traci's suicide attempt. We saw this episode during the classics. Beth Maitland 1985 Supporting Actress Emmy winning episode.
