  1. I mean my gosh was that even necessary for her to do? Yikes! It’s funny she speaks highly of Victor Miller yet trashes Conforti, when it was Miller and Conforti who had to clean up her mess at GL (for better or worse) in time for the 60th anniversary. Unlike McTavish at least Conforti had a long working career up until Josh Griffith laid him off in 2023. Wouldn’t be the first time in daytime either nor the last 🤣
  2. We just recently had that Jean Passanante retirement interview from 2017 resurface about her admitting regretting her story choices from ATWT’s final year (and hinting at probably a lot more). Now this comes bubbling up. I wonder who the next tell all will be about and from…LOL… But you’re right. Even though 2005 still fees like yesterday to me and the troubles and wounds of all 9 soaps from that year still feel fresh, everyone except for Thudley, Corday I guess FV, is long gone and an entire 20 year generation has passed. Thanks I’ll have to reread it.
  3. LOL! I mean her comments about JFP kind of follow JFP’s track record and I can see her having beef with FMB and JHC. But the way she skewered poor Michael Comforti was downy petty and pitiful LOL. Was a bit disappointed she just barely mentioned her horrendous tenure at GL aside from briefly referring to Brent/Marian as well as actor Frank Beaty.
  4. OMG wow! Late to the party but I saw @DRW50 reference this. I was able to do a quick speed read earlier but what a total mess. I’m going to go back and read deeper. When was this written??
  5. Gotcha yeah Y&R definitely has had a bad track record for high profile hires for the last 20 years or so for sure. I think Egan and Thompson are the only ones to make it long term, and that’s definitely not saying much.
  6. I rolled my eyes at that news too. Granted I understand Carlivati & Giddens aren’t in control of things, but heck James Harmon Brown and Barbara Esensten did significant damage as script writers to Days itself in Sprint 2007 before going to cause trouble for AMC later that year before the writers strike. Y&R is currently set to last through 2028 on CBS. B&B is currently up for renewal, probably could have been cancelled last year but CBS allowed a one year option. I’m not still sure what happened with to the moment is JG’s 2013 run. Cold feet? Sony and JFP interference? (Although JFP was the one who fired Stafford 🤣🤣🤣 Obviously there wasn’t any pushback from anyone. JG is rehiring Stafford was the dumbest move….) Theo was such an interesting character. The actor had instant chemistry with Courtney Hope as Sally but was dropped for who knows why. I still think Theo could have been viable long term if written properly.
  7. Indeed. And as we recently mentioned he ax Daniel Goddard, eliminate the Rosales clan, and has at least written consistently decent stories for the Abbott clan. In other words JG’s 3rd run good stuff is probably equivalent to how many times a year a broken clock is right LOL. The one downside of BTG is seeing Calivati’s name in the writing credits right after openly mocking Days fans about the backlash to his Body & Soul story. Even if he’s just a sub or script writer for BTG I think he deserves the unemployment line.
  8. It was unusual timing but for the last 3 years one of the best things of Y&R has been the trifecta of Susan Walters, Zulekya Silver and Alison Lanier carrying the show on their backs no matter what’s been thrown at them. And yeah Griffith’s 2nd run in 2012-13 was such a breath of fresh air coming off of what we experienced with MAB/Sheffer/Hamner etc. I’m so disappointed that JG abruptly back tracked what he was doing and had some type of mental breakdown….obviously Summer was going to be Jack’s daughter and then the allegedly purported idea that Hilary was to be the lost daughter of Gus & Dru (I do strongly add the disclaimer because I remember reading it but the source material is lost/can’t be validated from when I tried to look it back up for a fellow poster a few years back…it may have been true or just fan-fiction in disguise for all I know) Out of all the long running soaps (not counting something like Sunset Beach) that I’ve send ended, when GL ended as much as it pained me to see the end, it did feel like the natural end to a long running soap. I can imagine Days is in the same boat right now. Not the first time Days has been in serious trouble but with all the losses and passings of major vets the past year, all of the BTS drama, and a major egomaniac HW finally all the way out after doing a grave disservice to the show one may really have to wonder just how much sand is left in that hourglass.
  9. Audra is probably the first successful classic soap vixen Y&R has had since the Bell/Alden days thanks in large part to the actress. Walters returning back as Diane has been a blessing and actually made me wonder what could have been had she had just stayed as Diane for all those lost years. Although the premise has been utterly ridiculous he did bring back Cole and is currently reunited with Victoria. That Days run was particularly horrendous I still can’t believe that stuff got rubber-stamped but then again I shouldn’t be surprised at all. Necktie Killer, the rape, Bo back to die etc. I knew there was some backlash for Hope killing Stefano in cold blood but for that one I wasn’t too bothered with though. I would’ve had Scotty Grainger running the Genoa City Chronicle or something for years now. But how this show went from Blair Redford to greasy Daniel Hall though…………..
  10. Currently Audra, who started back in 2022. He did also bring back Diane successfully and did a complete overhaul of Summer with successful recast in a new direction back around the time. Prior to that you’d have to go with Hilary from his 2012-13 run. A serial killer story for the show’s 50th. He also wrote the rape twist of Chase & Ciara.
  11. Wow this is a big shocker. It took me a minute to get use to Billy as Chad as I adored the original. Casey Deidrick (who I recently read is in some legal hot water). Flynn and Mansi were absolutely the best back in the day (has it really been a decade?!!?) and the 2020-22 stuff between him & Miller was solid work as a tent pole couple. I’m a bit surprised Flynn is coming to Y&R….new role? That could mean anything really with JG…Claire’s secret ex boyfriend? A past lover of either Audra or Sally? New Fen? Jack & Nikki’s lost son they thought died? Noah Newman 6.0? I shouldn’t give him anymore ideas 🙈🙈 Speaking of JG….gotta love this quote from the TV Insider: Y&R’s executive producer/head writer Josh Griffith wrote for Flynn from 2015-16 at DAYS, so he’s very familiar with the actor’s skills. “On behalf of the entire company of The Young and the Restless, we look forward to welcoming Billy to the show,” Griffith tells TV Insider. “He will be a wonderful addition to Y&R’s stellar cast.” Yes Josh, we all remember your disgusting offensive run on Days in 2015-16 that got you fired. And yes Josh, we already Flynn will get your current low energy boring drama free writing on Y&R unless your having one of your mood swings….
  12. We’re saving that for when Ian does extract his revenge he causes an elevator at Newman Towers to go into freefall thinking Victor is on it but really it contains Billy, Chelsea, Phyllis, and Abby.
  13. I really need to finish last week’s episodes of The SAW and the Restless…. See above LOL. You perfectly summed up my frustration the show. @Taoboi @kalbir @Antoyne @YRfan23 As for Sharon’s kidnapper obviously we know it’s probably Ian but I propose it to be NICK as responsible. This is all one giant scheme of his which is mind will end the animosity between Phyllis and Sharon. This revelation comes about at a garden party at the Newman party. Nick has a mental breakdown and desperately tries to explain his rationale, but Victor and Summer are unconvinced and have the authorities haul Nick off to Fairview. As Nick is hauled off in a straight jacket Victor promises his son he’ll get the best help. Morrow’s exit is announced afterward and frees up the budget.
  14. I was reading up on the ill-fated Carol & Company when I came across an article going over the upcoming ill-fated 91-92 season for NBC: NBC Shakes Up Its Prime-Time Program Lineup for Fall Season : Entertainment: In addition to TV’s No. 1 show, ‘Cheers,’ the network is adding six new comedies, two dramas and an adventure series. By RICK DU BROW May 21, 1991 NBC, stung by a sharp drop-off in viewers last season, on Monday unveiled a “re-energized” fall schedule for the 1991-92 season that features James Garner, Robert Guillaume, Marlee Matlin and Sam Waterston in new weekly series. Still buoyed by TV’s No. 1 show, “Cheers,” the top-rated network canceled Fred Dryer’s long-running police show, “Hunter”; yanked Andy Griffith’s program about an attorney, “Matlock,” promising that it would return “at a later date,” and parted company with Carol Burnett, rejecting her request to expand her half-hour “Carol & Company” comedy anthology into a weekly, one-hour, revue-style series. In a bid to create major new hits after several seasons of near-total failure in launching smash ratings successes, NBC is also splitting up its previously untouchable Saturday-night tandem of “The Golden Girls” and “Empty Nest,” using them as lead-ins to launch two comedies. In general, however--despite promises of “a whole new NBC”--the schedule appears to be a conservative reworking of last season’s offerings. NBC, the network ratings leader for six consecutive seasons, will introduce nine series come fall: six comedies, two dramas and a half-hour fantasy adventure, “Eerie, Indiana,” about a 13-year-old boy who has “visions of unspeakable horrors” in the seemingly idyllic small town in which he lives. Also returning is “Sisters,” an hour drama that debuted 10 days ago amid furor when NBC cut out a discussion of orgasms among the four siblings of the show in the program’s trademark opening scene in a sauna. Burnett said Monday that there’s “a very strong possibility” that her hour comedy revue will wind up next season on CBS, where she starred for 12 years in one of TV’s most famous variety series. CBS is expected to announce its fall schedule later this week. The network declined comment on whether Burnett would move there. But Burnett said: “We’re about an inch or two apart.” Asked about NBC’s denial of her request to expand her show, even though “Carol & Company” averaged a strong 24% share of the audience this season, she said: “Maybe they’re wearing their ties too tight and can’t think.” Burnett said she had tired of the anthology format because “it was tantamount to doing a sitcom pilot a week. It was too hard.” After rejecting her one-hour series concept, NBC Entertainment President Warren Littlefield said through a spokeswoman: “We didn’t have room for an hour. We said, ‘Feel free to take it someplace else.’ ” Garner, one of TV’s best-loved stars in such series as “Maverick” and “The Rockford Files,” will headline the sitcom “Man of the People,” playing a con artist “who is named to fill a city council seat previously held by his late ex-wife.” Guillaume, of “Soap” and “Benson” fame, stars in the sitcom “Pacific Station” as a veteran detective “whose beat is the eccentric beach community of Venice.” Oscar-winner Matlin (“Children of a Lesser God”) stars with Mark Harmon in the hour drama “Reasonable Doubts,” about “two unlikely partners brought together by the Chicago criminal justice system.” Matlin portrays a hearing-impaired assistant district attorney, and Harmon is a police investigator. Waterston (“The Killing Fields”) will appear in a drama series with a provocative premise, “I’ll Fly Away,” playing “a principled prosecuting attorney in a small Southern city in the late 1950s” as the civil rights movement is taking hold. He has three children and a “forthright new black housekeeper” (Regina Taylor). In an unusual move for such a drama, “I’ll Fly Away” will be broadcast at the family hour of 8 p.m. on Tuesday. And significantly, NBC’s back-to-back series of “I’ll Fly Away,” “In the Heat of the Night” and “Law & Order” will all feature major, continuing roles in dramatic shows for black performers. Howard Rollins co-stars with Carroll O’Connor in the police story “In the Heat of the Night,” and Richard Brooks portrays an assistant district attorney in “Law & Order.” NBC series that have been bumped from the past season include “Ferris Bueller,” “The Fanelli Boys,” “Shannon’s Deal,” “Amen,” “Parenthood,” “Working It Out,” “American Dreamer,” “Hull High,” “Down Home,” “Lifestories,” “Dark Shadows,” “Sunday Best,” “Disney Presents: The 100 Lives of Black Jack Savage” and “Midnight Caller.” An NBC spokeswoman said several of these shows might return. Other NBC series debuting this fall include: * “The Adventures of Mark and Brian,” a “reality-based” comedy starring Los Angeles radio disc jockeys Brian Phelps and Mark Thompson, who will “fulfill lifelong daredevil dreams” in their weekly, half-hour outings. * “Flesh ‘n’ Blood,” a sitcom from the producers of “Cheers,” dealing with an assistant district attorney (Lisa Darr) who is faced with a charming con man who claims to be her brother and who, with a son and daughter, provides her with an instant family. * “Nurses,” a sitcom from writer-producer Susan Harris (“Soap,” “The Golden Girls,” “Empty Nest”), about five nurses--four women and a man. * “The Torkelsons,” a sitcom concerning a sensitive 14-year-old girl who is mortified by her “crazy-quilt suburban family” held together by her mother, “a cash-poor single parent who will stop at nothing to provide for her children.” NBC is moving “The Golden Girls” to the lead-off 8 p.m. slot on Saturdays and has scheduled “The Torkelsons” between the long-running hit and another success, “Empty Nest,” thus giving the new entry a choice slot. “Nurses” will follow “Empty Nest”--giving Harris three of NBC’s Saturday night comedies. With NBC losing about 13% of its audience this past season, the 1991-92 prime-time schedule is critical for the TV network subsidiary of General Electric Co. ABC and rebounding CBS have closed in on NBC, which has not increased its audience over a previous season since the 1986-87 competition. In the past season, some of NBC’s aging but key program staples saw serious audience declines: “The Cosby Show” dropped 26%; “Night Court,” 21%; “The Golden Girls,” 18%; “L.A. Law,” 15%, and “Unsolved Mysteries,” 13%. Here is NBC’s night-by-night schedule: Sunday: “The Adventures of Mark and Brian,” “Eerie, Indiana,” “Man of the People,” “Pacific Station,” “Sunday Night at the Movies.” Monday: “Fresh Prince of Bel Air,” “Blossom,” “Monday Night at the Movies.” Tuesday: “I’ll Fly Away,” “In the Heat of the Night,” “Law & Order.” Wednesday: “Unsolved Mysteries,” “Night Court,” “Seinfeld,” “Quantum Leap.” Thursday: “The Cosby Show,” “A Different World,” “Cheers,” “Wings,” “L.A. Law.” Friday: “Real Life With Jane Pauley,” “Expose,” “Dear John,” “Flesh ‘n’ Blood,” “Reasonable Doubts.” Saturday: “The Golden Girls,” “The Torkelsons,” “Empty Nest,” “Nurses,” “Sisters.”
  15. The last time I clearly remember daily threads occurring on this board was back in summer/fall of 2008 especially with Y&R and OLTL as the MAB/Sheffer/Rauch/Hamner crew and Carlivati material at the time excited everyone including myself. Unfortunately it turned out to be wool being pulled over everyone’s eyes in the long term. A weekly thread wouldn’t be a bad idea. I’m just now finally caught up and don’t even know where to begin replying or share my thoughts LOL. I’ll share here in a bit though.
  16. UPN did have a legal drama starring Tate Diggs called Kevin Hill (not to be confused with Diggs’ embarrassing character Sugar Hill on GL) but in only lasted a season or so around 2004. I can’t recall if UPN did have any others or not. The one thing I do give the old UPN credit for was continuing to create and air new sitcoms like Half & Half, Everyone Hates Chris, All of US etc. after their original ones ended over time, where as The WB quickly became very lily white by the 2000-01 season as the network reached its peak.
  17. BTG: A+ Y&R: C- Days: D+ B&B: Z- as always!
  18. OMG, what the…? Reid’s death in the waning days of ATWT eliminated the possibility of Luke getting a happy ending in the romantic sense. In a 2017 interview with Soap Opera Digest, the show’s final head writer, Jean Passanante, admitted that she regretted how she chose to close out Luke’s on-screen life. Said Passanante, “On World Turns, at the very end, we had this great character, Dr. Reid Oliver, the boyfriend of Luke. I’m really sorry we killed him off. I took a lot of heat for that at the time and I said, ‘No, it’s a great story, he gives his heart to Chris Hughes!’ But now that I have it to reflect on, I should not have done that. He and Luke should have gone into the sunset happily ever after. That I’m sorry about, even though I defended myself at the time” The way I recall it was both Goutman and Passanante were acting bitter and spiteful towards fans and what not that final year. What a lazy hack. Being haunted by her own bad writing choices at ATWT (hopefully along with what she did at her other shows like AW, AMC, and Y&R) is oddly a bit satisfying to know though.
  19. LOL I’m also glad Billy isn’t anywhere near the Damian story either. Had him and Lily still be more involved like they were for the 2-3 years there, I can only imagine Billy running around GC like a maniac telling everyone how Damian is evil and jumping over rooftops to prove this (bad memories from Who Shot Chance back in 2020)
  20. I didn’t realize Nielsen stopped doing total viewer and HH ratings for daytime shows, that were the numbers I wanted to see the most. Glad the demos are good though!
  21. Thanks for the tag @DRW50! On an interesting note KXTV the CBS station in Sacramento here dropped GL in 1990 supposedly due to low ratings and never aired it again. KXTV and KOVR swapped affiliations in 1995 and KOVR never carried GL either even when CBS bought it in 2006. KCRA Sacramento also refused to AW for all of the 90’s.
  22. OMG!! Been trying to keep with you all in real time as today was the first time I got to watch the show live. Was worried about news interruptions too WOW what a fantastic cliffhanger! Is Eva in on Leslie’s entire plan too like running down Laura? And I’m guessing Eva is Ted’s daughter? A classic cliffhanger of being trapped in an elevator and going in labor. And that wedding was as hilarious as Monday’s shaming of Hayley with everyone dressed in black. Dani and her hand gun is priceless!
  23. LOL I thought the same exact thing about Ashley too! 😂 Seeing Andre with Dani surprised me but I really it enjoyed it. Silkpress Sheila? LOL. It was a great scene though. I’m excited for tomorrow as not only will it be the show’s first cliffhanger Friday, but also the first episode I get to watch in real live time.
  24. I’m holding out before I make that judgment but so far he is the one character that unfortunately sounds good on paper yet we haven’t seen materialize on scene at all yet.
