The horrors of the violations by ICE and the USA's concentration camps have not stopped. This has all continued all over the USA for more than a year. It's still happening in Minnesota but the ICE agents stopped patrolling downtown Minneapolis due to the observers. So now ICE is in the suburbs and countryside of Minnesota where thee are less observers with cameras. And forced deportations to random countries where the person has never ever lived before. All these horrors have continued alongside all the other evil things the Tr*mp administration is doing.

Y&R: May 2026 Discussion Thread
I think it worked for Abby's original vision in 2019 -- but if (and only if) they had made it more bustling with customers and had some decent music. The show could have written some original background music that sounded pop or trendy, to just play for a few seconds here and there, then tone it down during dialogue. Also it was meant to be more of an evening spot (and perhaps Sunday brunch). I think the decor worked for evening lighting, but the decor is too busy for daytime dining. Let's see, Society went live in 2019, then COVID hit in 2020, so the show stopped using extras. I wonder if Society would have carried forth Abby's original vision if COVID hadn't hit? I think Society is prettier than the Athletic Club's main floor. But the Neil jazz club has taken on the "night spot" role.

Well I kept wishing that the hospital show would focus more on the hospital and that it needs to focus more on doctors and nurses. (sigh) Be careful what I wish for.

The Politics Thread
Families and neighbors and concerned humans have been protesting outside the Delaney Hill immigration detention center in Newark, New Jersey. Some of the imprisoned residents are on a hunger strike. The outdoor protests and interior hunger strike have been going on for several consecutive days. https://www.nj.com/politics/2026/05/sherrill-denied-access-to-controversial-ice-detention-center-as-calls-for-its-closure-grow.html bluesky thread from U.S. Senator Andy Kim, New Jersey https://tbsky.app/profile/kim.senate.gov/post/3mmpvlejuak2u May 25, 2026 I saw chaos inside and outside of the ICE detention center Delaney Hall today. Detainees protesting the lack of due process, the disgusting food and poor treatment while their families and advocates stood outside calling for help. 1/4 Instead of engaging with me and others about the poor conditions, ICE sent in an armored vehicle and a line of armed agents that only poured gasoline on the fire. Civilians were tackled and restrained, and agents fired pepper balls and spray into the crowd. 2/4 This is more of the same lawlessness we’ve seen elsewhere around the country. Our country deserves accountability. Our country deserves the humane treatment of every person here. In fact, our Constitution demands this. 3/4 What I witnessed and experienced today was shameful. Delaney Hall is a failure; it’s this administration’s failure. The only way to make this right for our communities is to shut it down and make sure the failures we’ve seen never happen again. 4/4

Y&R: May 2026 Discussion Thread
The original concept for Society (in the characters' minds per their dialogue) ... Abby was trying to create a business for herself. At one point she got ideas for real estate, etc. One day Abby stated she was thinking that Genoa City needed a hip upscale spot for young adults to grab dinner and listen to music. She wanted the menu to be high-end and she hired Lola as the gourmet chef. There was a stage where music acts could perform and Ana Hanilton's bio-father hoped to sing there. Abby wanted this as an upscale dinner alternative to Crimson Lights -- a place where trendy adults in their 20s and 30s would want to go. The dedication ceremony happened in 2019, around the time that Neil died. I think they later dedicated the stage to Neil. But then stage was rarely (if at all) shown after that. And Society became more of a place for meetings since nobody has an office or a home. They did keep the unique menu as an attribute while Lola was the chef, so that was the only thing that made the place non-generic. Then Lola left in 2021. Then for the 50th anniversary of Y&R in 2023, the show brought back the Athletic Club main floor as a regular restaurant, and dedicated the lower level as the Neil Winters Jazz Club. And it's as if the stage at Society never existed. Now Society is a generic restaurant owned by Abby and managed or hostessed by Tessa.

(disclaimer that this is me recapping from memory from years ago, and I might have some things wrong). Daniel was drunk and Cassie took the keys to drive him home and crashed (she was too young to have a drivers license but had a crush on Daniel). Daniel was blamed for Cassie's death and then he and Lily went on the run. The main thing was Nick and Phyllis and Neil were all upset about teens Daniel and Lily running off to California together. Nick wanted revenge on Daniel, while Phyllis wanted to bring Daniel back home, and Neil wanted to bring Lily back home. Nick, Phyllis, and Neil were traveling around together, trying to find the teens; while Sharon and Malcom stayed in Genoa City. Nick and Phyllis were quarreling the whole time that they were travelling (well quarreling at first). They begrudgingly started to like each other but wouldn't admit it, with suppressed/implied sparks. When Nick got home from that journey, he and Sharon were both trying to mourn the loss of Cassie together; but, as happens sometimes when a child dies, the parents become distant from one another. Nick felt more comfortable with Phyllis. Things started to build when Michael and Lauren were planning to get married. I remember that Phyllis was more best friends with Michael than with Lauren then. There was a bachelor's party for Michael, and all the attendees were men except for Phyllis, and Nick and Phyllis and the others were all smoking cigars at the bachelors party. Finally on the day of Michael and Lauren's wedding in December 2025, Nick drove Phyllis home afterwards, and was about to leave, but then they had wild sex on her couch. There wasn't much Phyllis/Sharon interaction at all, other than discussion of Daniel/Cassie. It was mainly Phick interacting. Phick hid their affair, and it went on for a while until Sharon found out.

Good point! I should not have even called the Britt situation a "surrogacy" storyline! It was offensive for me to refer to it that way. It was plain and simple theft/violation.

Mansi can play crazy well. (see the DAYS scene where Abby sets Ben on fire). I don't know wtf GH was doing but this was all awful. Lily Brooks O'Briant (Lily Romalotti on Y&R) also has endometriosis in real life, in addition to Mansi having it in real life. O'Briant explained it on her IG better than Mansi did. It's not just inflammation of uterine lining tissue, it's uterine lining tissue growing as lesions in parts of the body it's not supposed to be in -- such as intestines, the spine, and other odd places, making an extremely painful life for the patient. The surgery to remove the lesions can be done by very few specialists. Endometriosis affects one-tenth of all women. https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/10857-endometriosis I remember, that when she was first hired at GH, Mansi said one of the reasons she took the role of Kristina was because they told her there'd be an endometriosis storyline, and she wanted to advocate for educating about that. But the surrogacy storyline was written in a very offensive manner. I guess the only thing the show did for "education" was give Mansi the opportunity to direct one episode in which Molly explains endometriosis to Cody. But by that time, I'm guessing few viewers cared and I imagine that some fastforwarded. As someone posted upthread or on another thread, (spoiler) It's a serious issue, but the show gave nearly as much gravity to eyemites. The whole thing was botched, and it cannot be blamed only on Haley Pullos' DUI prison term and the recastings of Molly. This makes *** two *** recent surrogacy storylines the show has written offensively -- Molly/Irene/Kristina and Lulu/Rocco/Britt. wtf is wrong with these writers?
