  1. The bigger question - how did spending time in Europe make Iris turn Australian?
  2. Yes, the beginnings of the Who Shot Roger stuff was her last hurrah.
  3. AKA An insider's look at white privilege at it's most elevated level!
  4. A lot of Jackie's co-dependency had a lot to do with Roseanne never being able to let go of her too. They kind of tried to explain it as Roseanne always seeing herself as Jackie's protector after their sh!tty childhood with an physically abusive father and emotionally abusive mother. However, it just never stopped.
  5. The original show had intentional serial-like elements because Barr wanted it to reflect her own life and how certain themes played out over time as opposed to being resolved in a matter of one 30 minute episode and then quickly forgotten (like most sitcoms would).
  6. To me, B&B didn’t really kickoff until the arrival of the Spectra’s (Sally in particular).
  7. TPIR isn't Y&R's lead-in in many markets though. It may have played a part, but is one of many things. Ironically, Y&R went to #1 and stayed there when H. Wes Kenney went over to GH to produce it. Kenny later said he regretted leaving Y&R for GH.
  8. I do wonder if ABC ever wondered why or were dumbfounded why AMC wasn't able to succeed GH as the #1 rated soap when the later started to run of of steam in the late 80's. Looking at these ratings, it seems Y&R's #1 status was becoming inevitable, even if other soaps were sometimes nipping at its heels. They really held up throughout the 80's and cut right through the ABC dominance, to the point where they would topple GH completely by the end of the decade.
  9. This was a nice interview (despite the annoying panel), and glad Beverly gave respect to Julie Goodyear and said her best times were in her beginning years.
  10. So Beverly Callard is leaving for the millionth time? I wish they'd kill Liz off or at least have Steve leave with her...
  11. What was going on with AMC at this point and why were they starting to tumble? Assuming the increased competition in some markets from a now very strong Y&R couldn't have helped.
  12. One thing is for certain, Y&R's eventual dominance wasn't a fluke occurrence. Throughout the 80's, they were consistent and broke through the ABC dominance for most of the early part of the decade. They maintained their audience (for the most part) by the end of the 80's when other soaps started to lose it. Oddly, Y&R was the soap in its own bubble that didn't follow all the trends most soaps would - other than some great timeslots, I have to wonder if that's what the average viewer ultimately appreciated. God knows they're coasting off that past reputation to this day.
  13. It's still strange that Leon hasn't been mentioned at all in this series and the previous Roseanne reboot. When the main show ended, Roseanne and Jackie gave their shares of the Lunchbox over to Leon and Nancy. But again, I guess we're supposed to forget season 9 of Roseanne ever happened...
  14. i hadn't seen this before, ITV's tribute to Doris Speed when she died in 1994. As someone in the comments pointed out, it's sad to think only William Roache and Julie Goodyear remain from the folks who participated in this.
  15. I've never been a big fan of Mel's (though Tamzin Outhwaite is an amazing actress). However, that was an AWFUL ending for the character. Typical Kate Oates with style over substance.
  16. The last time any pairing on Corrie had remotely any chemistry. And sadly, probably the last time poor Carla ever had decent writing. These two are probably the best thing to come out of Kym Marsh's existence on this show (which is luckily coming to an end soon - I hope permanently). It's funny that Robert James-Collier often felt embarrassed whenever his Corrie stint was mentioned during promotional appearances for Downton Abbey. So much of Liam was a direct result of his natural charisma and personality.
  17. Full interview with Wendy and Robyn:
