This All American spin-off has been kicking on all cylinders. The Sophomore season has had a lot of really strong episodes. Last night's episode in which an HBCU Girl's Tennis team bus is pulled over by a small town sheriff's department on their way to a tournament for "driving while black" was well written. GeffriMaya (Simone Hicks), and Sabrina Revelle (Coach Loni) as well as the actresses playing the team really hit all of the right beats. Mental Illness (Coach Turner portrayed by Corey Hardrict is bi-Polar), a lead transgender character (Nathaniel or "Nate" Hardin played by Rhoyle Ivy King), a dancer being gaslighted by her professor (Keesha, Netta Walker, Dr. Pace--Diahnna Nicole Baxter), family drama (newly reunited brothers (Damon --Peyton Alex Smith and J. R. -- Sylvester Powell) who have developed (with Simone and her aunt Dean Amara Patterson-- Kelly Jenrette) their "family". Their "family" deals with their daily struggles--and they do it well.
