  1. Very sad news. What a long life and what a legend. Even if she clearly couldn't remember most of the details of her career, I'm glad she was on Locher Room earlier last year. I can't imagine anyone else as Maeve. She played all the colors of the rainbow and invented a few more. The scenes I remember most are when Edmond's death led her to quietly weep as she remembered the babies she and Johnny had lost.
  2. He was a real gem, yes. I can't remember what the story plans they supposedly had for him were.
  3. You may still enjoy the scenes as they do a lot of heavy work, in the usual very heavy-handed Marland way, of establishing the "fun" person Carrie was initially presented as being. You also get to see some of Jane's chemistry with Jerry. You have likely seen all of this before, but if you want more of her role in the Diane exit story, there are a number of clips of just that in this set.
  4. Lost John Ford film found in Chile after 100 years | The National
  5. Tons of GL from those years is not available on Youtube. You may have to pick through. I think this is the first appearance of hers that is on Youtube. (as someone mentioned on the last page, the Soapcentral arrival date of March is wrong - she's getting "welcome to Springfield" in August)
  6. That makes sense. I know DAYS and GL also have periods where a lot of episodes are available.
  7. Thanks for letting us know. That channel hasn't had any soap content up in a while. I suppose it is something of a blessing that enough episodes have been uploaded from 1952/1953 that I wasn't sure if this was new to us or not. I never do know why some periods have a lot of survival data and others don't.

Given that Search started over a decade before and I think most of the time Jo ran a hotel was before Crossroads started, I always wondered about the opposite. I guess Jo does start a hotel up again sometime in the '70s or '80s though. I haven't watched Nolly yet as I just have a great deal of RTD and Helena Botham Carter fatigue, but I might someday.
  9. @Maxim That scene with Amanda and Iris is very good. Thanks. Much of the time Iris in her second run had to just react so it's nice to see her in scheming mode. Donna Swajeski also made it to where Amanda was more of an equal to Iris. I understand why, but it belies the reality that Amanda was a year out of boarding school and Iris was a successful businesswoman (even if that was a personality tweak) decades her senior. There was a lot of complex family history the show missed out on due to Lemay leaving. I can't remember if this was DePriest - it may have been Shari Anderson - but the episode with Reginald's will reading is worth watching. I will always give Vicky credit for being one of the few soap characters who inherited millions and held onto all of it, even if I think part is down to later writers just not remembering she was a multi-millionaire.
  10. @P.J. to mention your brief comment about Anna Stuart...I do love Anna Stuart's work as Donna, and what I've seen of her as Vanessa is OK too, but one thing with her in those heiress parts is she often plays into the humiliation and weakness of the character. And in Marland's tenure Vanessa was often humiliated. Maeve could be campy and silly too in that period, but she played against some of the degradation - you could see Vanessa essentially chewing her cheek and pondering her next move.
  11. Roger was already gone, but I do think Alan should have had more fallout beyond marriage woes. I suppose you could say he suffered by losing the company to Amanda for a brief spell.
  12. I think with Sarah or Cynthia they would have lost the inherent innocence in Tina. Given everything Tina did, it may seem strange to call her innocent, but Andrea, and Karen to a point, both had a little girl lost quality that makes sense for the waif Tina never fully grew out of being.
  13. I also wonder if her child would have come back into play - I think he was dead but you know how that goes on soaps. GL was going through so much upheaval at the time. Clearly viewers were willing to embrace some change, given the popularity of Nola, Kelly, and Morgan #1, but I do wonder how they felt about Carrie. Jane is such a brilliant actress, but she was such a departure from many of the leading ladies of GL in acting style and presence. It would have been a bit like Judith Light joining ATWT in 1978.
  14. I do wonder if she was mainly just written into a corner for the sake of being killed off, but I agree that her final episodes were powerful.
  15. Thanks. The strike truncating things would make sense. I think she was a corrupt judge.
  16. She hadn't been, although they had some run-ins. They also said Carrie and Diane knew each other before arriving in Springfield - another case where backstory doesn't really up the stakes from what I've seen. I still think killing off Diane was a mistake, although considering the purges of the early-mid '80s on GL at least she went out with a bang rather than just leaving offcamera.
  17. Oh that was him? I was watching that clip too and thought he was familiar. Compton was such a warm, steady presence. How he never at least got a recurring part as someone's father rather than just a flyby on AW as Mac's brother (someone's father in this case but see how much good that did him) and a bit part on OLTL is mystifying. I would have cast him as some kind of ministerial figure to be involved in Andrew's dramas. It's like when I saw Lori March on Another Life. I'm grateful she was cast, as she did a wonderful job in her short role and this is now almost all of her surviving soap work...but what a comedown. To keep this about Search, I know Mary Stuart also had a short term role on OLTL (which Chris Schemering or someone panned her for - I've never seen the episodes myself.)

  19. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/chuck-woolery-dead-wheel-fortune-love-connection-1236070165/ I've been seeing a lot of people celebrating this news. I understand why, but right now I'm just remembering his smooth style on Love Connection, which was always a good background watch.
  20. I agree she's dull - she has a little more of the soap inner life compared to Willow or Brooklyn, I think, but I agree. Cynthia was doing such good work in the brief time she was allowed. A shame that's never going to happen again.
  21. Maybe they should track down Rick Telles. Justice for Rocky/Rio.
  22. Blake/Ross/Holly would have made sense, even if Willow and Nina just don't have that level of depth and Cameron is no Jerry Ver Dorn. (I know you weren't comparing them, sorry) I do think Sasha is a likeable character, which is more than I can say for a number of others in her age range, but it does feel like she, Willow and Brooklyn all serve the same narcoleptic role.
  23. Thanks. I can see how hard it would be to play Princess.
  24. Thank you. I'd forgotten about Garland. I can imagine that was devastating as they needed that type of support in so much upheaval. We've gotten so used to the last four soaps hanging on by their fingernails that it can be easy to forget just how close to going they still are, especially GH and DAYS. I do see the similarity between where the show is now and was 11-12-13 years ago...the main difference is now no one is going to ride to the rescue. Hopefully something can turn around. And hopefully they won't have a departure that is going to really hurt the show.
  25. There could be story for Nina and Willow with Drew. I would recreate the story with Kimberly/Michael/Rae on Ryan's Hope. And if it ends with Willow gunning Drew down, no big loss. I do wonder what they plan with Sasha, although I still assume she will be back with Cody at some point.
