November 12, 201213 yr Author Member The only Ashley I want back is Eileen Davidson. I don't get all the love for Brenda Epperson, and I never felt comfortable watching her in the role. Just because she's available (gee, I'm glad her schedule finally opened up!) doesn't mean Ashley should be rushed back on to the canvas. ED's stint will end at DAYS (or DAYS will end first), and then I want Davidson back at Y&R where she belongs. I actually think ED is in it at DAYS for the long haul. She seems to be MUCH happier there than she was on Y&R and I see her staying until DAYS goes off the air. I really think the ratings are going to rise when her story catches fire again, I really do. She's done it before and she'll do it again. As I've said many times, Eileen Davidson returning to DAYS is probably the ONLY actor who can return to a soap currently and single-handedly bring the ratings up. Interest in DAYS is already up 1000% thanks to her. As for Brenda, she WAS available the last time Eileen was fired. I discussed it with her and she had no intention of going after the job, after the way Eileen was let go. Apparently, they are friendly acquaintances in real life and Brenda wouldn't have even returned to the show then if they asked her. It's different now. I don't understand your felling uncomfortable with Brenda in the role, as I just don't see how that's possible. She exuded such warmth, class, and dignity as Ashley that I can't see how anyone would be "uncomfortable" with her portrayal. Maybe you're confusing her with Shari Shattuck? Either way, I could understand where Eileen fans maybe didn't want to warm up to her, but to say that her screen presence made you uncomfortable? I don't buy it and think maybe it was just a poor choice of words.
November 12, 201213 yr Member I agree. When Eileen first returned, she was in the lab all the time, wearing those damn glasses that I'd NEVER seen Ashley wear in the lab. Don't care if Eileen's Ashley wore them or if she was just trying to distinguish herself, they were so annoying. She'd take them on & off so much it was like the episode of "NewsRadio" where everyone is just counting how many time Dave picks up his coffee cup and puts it back down instead of paying attention to the meeting. That's what I was like with those glasses. It was so distracting and not in character with the Ashley I'd been watching for a decade. DeeeDee, correct me if I'm wrong. Both Brenda & Eileen's Ashley's wore glasses.
November 12, 201213 yr Member I don't think Ashley needed to be warm when Bill Bell was writing for the character, as he adored her and understood her. But once it was just Kay Alden, and then Jack Smith, that coldness cut like a knife, and cut very deep. It didn't help that Alden & Smith both favored MTS (hence Eileen's Ashley conceiving sperm babies & Alex's Diane abruptly being fired)
November 12, 201213 yr Member I remember Eileen wearing big black glasses early on in her return, which reminded me of her DAYS character, Susan. I don't remember her wearing them that often though.

Brenda's problem (like Amelia Heinle now) is she does well in romance stories but not in business. Eileen & Brad had a ton of chemistry which was destroyed so Smith could sacrifice Ashley (and Eileen) AGAIN for Braeden & MTS (after ruining Diane AGAIN & firing Susan Walters). I don't remember her wearing them that often though. She pretty much stopped once Lyndsy's Colleen arrived.
November 12, 201213 yr Member Come to think of it, has B&B had Brooke in the lab recently as well? I don't think I've seen that in years either. The lab was also a huge part of Brooke's character on B&B. I don't think daytime is interested in working/independent women anymore. Was Brooke even in the lab again after she took over Forrester Creations? Personally I think being CEO of the company was more a part of Brooke's character than being in the lab. I wish she could regain control of the company somehow.

November 12, 201213 yr Author Member Both Brenda & Eileen's Ashley's wore glasses. Really? I just don't ever remember Brenda's Ashley wearing glasses in the lab- are you sure? Maybe she wasn't annoying with them like Eileen was, constantly taking them on and off and fooling with them. The other thing that always bothered me (and still does) was Eileen's Ashley calling Jack "Jacky." I don't remember Brenda or Shari ever doing that. Did Eileen do that in her 1st run? It's annoying as all get out. It makes Ashley sound like Jack's older sister but she's not right? I always thought Jack was the oldest, then Ashley, then Traci was the baby until Billy was born. Am I wrong on that one too DeeeDee? Edited November 12, 201213 yr by juniorz1
November 12, 201213 yr Member It's a sisterly pet name for her brother on the show, I don't see the issue. Edited November 12, 201213 yr by Antoyne
November 12, 201213 yr Member Really? Yep. She didn't wear them often but she definitely wore them. The other thing that always bothered me (and still does) was Eileen's Ashley calling Jack "Jacky." I don't remember Brenda or Shari ever doing that. Did Eileen do that in her 1st run? It's annoying as all get out. Eileen's Ashley didn't call Jack Jacky until her second run. While Eileen's Ashley is younger than Jack they were written more as equals. Brenda's Ashley & especially Shari's were more like little sisters to Jack. Brenda's Ashley had a more difficult relationship with Traci than Eileen's Ashley ever had. I always thought Jack was the oldest, then Ashley, then Traci was the baby until Billy was born. Am I wrong on that one too DeeeDee? Nope you're right. The Abbott siblings order is indeed Jack, Ashley, Traci & then Billy.
November 12, 201213 yr Member There's such a sweetness to Brenda's portrayal though. I could never picture her stealing sperm. And damn was Davidson awkward-looking during her first Y&R stint up until mid-way through her first DAYS stint. I think Epperson was prettier than Davidson was during her first stint on the show. It took a LONG time for Davidson to grow into her looks and to be styled properly. Davidson looks manly in her old pics.
November 12, 201213 yr Author Member Yep. She didn't wear them often but she definitely wore them. Yeah, I sort of remember that now. But Eileen was constantly taking them on & off. Couldn't STAND it! Eileen's Ashley didn't call Jack Jacky until her second run. They need to drop it- I remember it drove me NUTS in the beginning and still does when she does (did) it. It's just such a dumb pet name for him and so un-Ashley like. Who knows why Eileen brought that into the dialogue when she took over. Brenda's Ashley had a more difficult relationship with Traci than Eileen's Ashley ever had. Yes and I LOVED that. It made so much sense- Ashley could never suffer Traci's constant whining and feeling sorry for herself at the time. Plus, let's face it, Ashley clearly wanted Brad and vice versa and I'm sure that made Traci's blood boil. I miss them having a bit of a rivalry. The link to this thread has been posted to Brenda's page and I bet she's reading this and getting a kick out of it. Can we all start tweeting these people please? Anybody have any good ideas for hashtags we can use?
