With the passing of Ben Hendrickson, I thought of all the great soap stars that we lost. Which one affected you the most?

I was deeply sad when I heard about those one

David Lewis (Edward, GH)

Norma Connolly (Ruby, GH)

Ruth Warrick (Phoebe, AMC)

Doug Watson (Mac, AW)

Josh Ryan Evans (Timmy) from Passions. It was so tragic and sad. I actually cried when he died, well when Julian remembered him and had that sad montage. :(

It was also so eerie because Timmy died the same day he did.

Anna Lee and Macdonald Carey come to mind.

Anna Lee made me bawl like a baby. MacDonald Carey also as I grew up hearing "Like sands through the hourglass..."

Terry Lester also affected me as he was young, just like Benjamin Hendrickson. BH is shocking to me, I am so stunned I am crying.

I know this isn't really a soap but when Michelle from one of the early Road Rules was killed a quite a few years ago by a drunk driver affected me as she was close tot he same age as me

Macdonald Carey was one.

Josh Ryan Evans was another. So creepy because he died in real life on the same day his character died on Passions. I mean, wow... that sounds like one of those stupid myths, but it's true!

Macdonald Carey

Douglas Marland

Douglas Watson

Anna Lee

Bill Bell

Josh Ryan Evans (tragic and eerie)

Those are the ones sticking in my mind right now.

Anna Lee- I know that she was old, but it was still shocking, especially after the horrible way that she was treated by GH.

Douglas Marland- absolute shock! Even though he wasn't an actor, his death definitely affected ATWT for years. IMO, they didn't recover until 2000. I was only 6 or so at the time of his death, but it was such a major blow to ATWT. Definitely the death of an era.

Josh Ryan Evans- I used to watch Passions (I actually read that book that Tabitha and Timmy did ), and his death was, by-far, the most disturbing. He was too young. :(

I forgot one, Michael Zaslow. Even though he was so sick for a long time, I kept wishing he could beat it.

Douglass Watson, for sure. He was so familiar to me from my mom having watched AW when I was little and me watching it later.

Michael Zaslow, for so many obvious reasons we all know

Rosalind Cash (Mary Mae, GH) - IIRC, her last scene (or one of her last scenes) was with Robin and Stone in the hospital while he was being treated for AIDS (and she, the actress, in real life, had cancer) and she told him these beautiful words about finding grace in life. They gave her (both the character and the actress) such a wonderful send-off/memorial service on the show that even friends like Lou Rawls and Esther Rolle were sitting in the pews of the church set.

Was also saddened when I heard about Nancy Addison (Jillian, RH) and Joel Crothers (Miles, EON), Larry Gates (HB, GL).

Josh Ryan Evans hurt because he was so young, and because of the eery coincidence of his character dying on the show.

David Bailey (Alistair, PSNS) was also a stunner because it was out of the blue.

Terry Lester was so young.

I can't even speak about BH...far too young.

And, to me, so was Douglas Watson (Mac, AW). Just a stunner.

And Rosalind Cash. Nobody had even reported that she was sick, and then she was gone.

Of the character/performer deaths that I actually lived through...

Ruth Warrick - this one was big because I so enjoyed reading about Phoebe and watching clips of her. I honestly had it in my mind that Ruth would get better and become a regular part of the show again. I miss her.

Anna Lee - didn't hit me nearly as hard as Ruth, but it was still big. For a long time, besides Luke's perm, Anna's face was the thing I associated with GH for a long, long time.

Josh Ryan Evans - I was still pretty much a big old idiot when it came to soaps back then and I didn't even watch PSNS, but I was just so shocked at the irony and tragedy of his death.

Ben Hendrickson - see the other thread for exactly how I feel.

Other soap stars who died, but weren't on a soap when they did, that I remember...Mary Stuart (actually, wasn't she on GL as Meta at the time?), Nancy Addison Altman, Don Stewart, Anne Meacham, Dennis Patrick, Terry Lester, and the list goes on and on.

Douglas Watson

Constance Ford (one of my all time faves - was so sad to hear about her)

Douglas Marland

John Berardino

Michael Zaslow

Elizabeth Lawrence

Nancy Addison

Mary Stuart - next to Connie Ford and Douglas Watson hers is the one that affected me most. I was moved to real tears by all 3.

Henderson Forsythe

William J. Bell

Don Stewart

Charita Bauer was one of the first ones that I really remember. It was so sad when I heard about her.

Kay Campbell also. Her death and then that of Kate Martin.

And I will never forget hearing about Don MacLaughin. He had not been back on ATWT that long either. It was so sad.

And then former soap star Christoper Reeve. The tragedy that led to his death and then his death were so moving and his life was such an inspiration too.

Josh Ryan Evans (For Reasons Already Mentioned)

When I heard about Josh Ryan Evans dying, I remembered how happy he looked when he was on The Tonight Show one night.....He seemed like such a kind person....

Wasn't there a young soap actor that died in a car crash in the late 80's or early 90's?

  • Member

Josh Ryan Evans for sure and the guy who played Alistar for a month or two on Passions because that was sad that he drowned on Thanksgiving.

  • Member

David Scarborough who played the first Mark Fowler on EastEnders he comitted suicide in 1988 I was at an age where I had really no idea what suicide was untill then I always thought people only died because they were sick and old
